Fri May 20 2011Just about the ultimate chick flick, I knew I was in trouble. I had to go as Martha had something hanging over my head. I figured it out before I went so I took on a load at Murphy's Strip Bar and Armenian Grill. The primer stood me in good stead as I had to make several trips to the john. I couldn't hang out there too long as the Big M would get suspicious. As far as the plot is concerned, I divined that somebody croaked but I was disappointed that the entire cast didn't walk the last mile and lots of them survived, the best I can figure out.

Mon Nov 16 2009This film had the letters XXX. This sounds dumb of me but at first I thought that was the rating. When it came out in 1983, I thought that the theater that's close to where I live shouldn't be showing a triple X movie. The movie was in fact Rated PG.

Sun May 31 2009This is the ultimate weepy chick flick. I have always disliked Debora Winger, and this flick is most of the reason. Even Jack Nicholson could not save this bomb. Despite what amounts to an all-star cast, this one is destined to live in infamy. This is a terrible movie. A gal I was dating dragged me to this flick decades ago. I never forgave her and rightly not. The only movie I've ever seen that was worse than this one was "Yentl" which the same woman inveigled me into seeing. A worse bomb than Yentl has never graced the Silver Screen, but TOD comes close enough. Ghastly.

Wed May 06 2009What can you say...This is a classic. Buy it with the second chapter, "The Evening Star" And you have 4 hours of laughter and tears. Do yourself a favor and buy both, you wont be sorry.

Wed Jan 21 2009This one was a real tear jerker. But in order to get to the tears, we had to get to really know the characters and like them. James L Brooks' screenplay did just that. Based on the wonderful novel by Larry McMurtry, the screenplay condensed it for the screen and Mr Brooks' direction delivered it beautifully to the screen. A lifelong relationship between a mother and her daughter is depicted. Giving us their great talents as actors are Shirley MacLaine as Aurora, Debra Winger as her daughter, Jack Nicholson, as Aurora's neighbor boyfriend, Jeff Daniels and John Lithgow. The direction, the music, the photography were all perfect.

Wed May 28 2003Typically I wouldn't be caught dead watching a sappy movie such as this, but I found myself sitting with my mother one day watching this, and I loved it. I laughed and I cried. Rarely do I enjoy movies as sappy and romantic as this, but I just found Jack Nicholson's charming performance irresistable. The characters were all very well rounded and developed, and I think that each character in the script underwent a heavy change, whether it be Garret's admittance to loving someone or Aurora's letting go of her somewhat snobbish attitude. I thought that everyone did a fine acting job, espescially Nicholson and McClane. If oyu do not cry while watching this movie, then you have absolutely no emotion.

Mon Jan 15 2001This is a flawless movie! A guaranteed tearjerker. The story of a tumultuous mother-daughter relationship is compelling, but what really makes this movie are the stand-out performances of Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson.

Wed Jun 21 2000I grew up watching this movie. It is one of my mom's favorite movies and I remember coming in the family room and seeing her with a box of Kleenx and just bawling. It is a really sad movie but very touching too.

Sat Nov 06 1999If you're looking for a good punch in the gut, this is the movie to see. The hospital scene brings tears to anyone's eyes.
