Tue Jul 21 2009Uhhhh... this seems a little obvious to me.... But how wrong I can be... My current contract is nearly up, and I qualify for a new phone. On the weekend I spent an hour with some very earnest young man who was trying to upgrade me to levels of technology I really don't want. His selling points were things like camera, games, web access, etc. etc. and went off into arcane techno-speak that I understood about as much of as I would an analysis of molecular biology written in Attic Greek. After saying repeatedly that what I wanted, and all I wanted, or needed was a device to make and receive phone calls, and that other functions were not only unnecessary but largely unwelcomed, he finally listened. His tone and manner changed entirely, from that of the helpful and knowledgeable salesperson, to one being careful around a brain damaged and possibly dangerous stranger. I put off the decision. Next time I'm taking one of my kids along to translate.

Tue Jul 21 2009Talking is better in person. Texting or email allows someone to respond when convenient, with the added bonus of not having to worry about whether or not they can hear you at a loud pub. I call my parents often and my brother occasionally on my mobile to chat at length, but that's because we live on opposite coasts :( Otherwise it's easier to textually arrange plans to meet up with friends or my boyfriend. I've dated people in the past who required constant communication via phone, and it got irritating and reeked of codependence after the novelty wore off.

Tue Jul 21 2009If the only phone I had was mounted on the kitchen wall with a long cord attached to the receiver so I could make it over to the fridge while I was talking, I'd be just fine.

Tue Jul 21 2009This is the main purpose that I have a cell phone for. But it isn't to just chat all day about nonsense. The purpose for my cell phone is business.

Mon May 11 2009The point of a cell phone is to talk to people. The ridiculous thing with cell phones is that they were made with the intent of improving communication between people, yet with all the extras involved it has hindered communication and interaction. If people are trying to have a personal conversation with someone who is fidgeting with their phone, it's very disrespectful, and when someone has their music on, they create their own isolated world away from people, thereby inhibiting communication. Talk on the phone, don't use it for any other purposes. I wish this was the only option, because then I would finally keep in touch with people, and not get some bull**** text.

Fri Apr 27 2007This is the whole point of having a cell phone, to talk to people. If you want to send a text message, send an email instead. If you want to take a picture/record a video, get a camera/camcorder. If you want to play games, just go all out and get a PSP or something.

Sun Apr 30 2006You can have all the bells and whistles; if it rings I will answer and TALK. Well, I do like caller ID, and the clock, and the ability to save numbers, and voice mail and... (Ok, maybe a few bells and whistles).

Fri Apr 28 2006If it weren't for the need to talk to other people, I definitely wouldn't have a cell phone.

Fri Apr 28 2006Really and truly how much calling do people do on their cellphones? We use it for everything but. Texting, taking pictures, alarms, calendars, emailing, surfing, downloading ringtones and games.

Fri Apr 28 2006I hated cell phones but finally got one about two years ago. I keep it turned off unless I want to call someone. Telephones are made to call people not have people call you!

Mon Apr 24 2006This is about all I use my phone for.

Tue Feb 28 2006Yes, but I prefer text messaging these days. Easier and more efficient way to communicate. No need to say hello, how are you, how are the kids, good bye kind of stuff. Just send the absolutely necessary message and the receipient won't hold it against you.

Thu Feb 02 2006This would be the only reason I got mine. Being a commuting college student (when I got my phone) my mother was worried about my not having a phone in case of an emergency. It's an hour drive up I-75; she wanted me to have a way to call if we broke down or got into an accident. Because I ony needed it for THAT purpose, I don't have many added extras to use anyway.

Wed Jan 25 2006This is pretty much all I do with my cell phone... mainly because I'm broke, and don't feel like upgrading my 2002 POS Samsung.
