Just as my friends and I were bemoaning the decline of glatt kosher restaurants, and particularly in their very epicentre of New York City, a client of mine told me about Talia’s. I was a little put off by the website, but decided I’d try it anyway. What a refreshing surprise. The mood and lighting made me feel instantly at home, and the service was extremely friendly and attentive. But I must say the delicious burger (with soy cheese, of course) is what made me a regular diner at Talia’s. The hummus, babaganoush, etc is all homemade and for the price, it’s a steal. (They have a “recession-proof” menu.) One bit of advice, though: go on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday night, when there is wonderful live music. So much for the decline of glatt kosher!

I just had my very first “cheeseburger” at Talia’s! I love burgers yet never thought I would get to experience a cheeseburger, but I was at Talia’s the other night where I usually have the prime rib (which is so amazing I have a hard time trying anything different) I saw on the menu that they offer soy cheese, so I figured I would give it a try. I sure glad I did. They brought out this huge juicy burger topped of with soy cheese…All I can say is that it was AWESOME!!! The burger was thick and juicy and the soy cheese was actually a great addition, and with their always tasty fries it turned out to be one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Just thinking about it makes me hungry J I will defiantly be going back asap.

After Eating at Talia’s and reading some of the negative reviewing from previous posts, I was shocked. I fell in love with the restaurant and my entire dining experience was superb from start to finish. I still find it too good to be true that Talia’s offers some of the best combination values of tasty food for such reasonable prices. I had a steak, mashed potatoes, a tasty beef and bean soup and a soda all for under $40! The atmosphere was so pleasant with live music in the background that I felt like I had a two for one, concert and dinner at the same time! My server was very nice and had a great personality. I could not have asked for a better experience and I highly recommend others go and see for themselves the superior quality of Talia’s!

The steaks were mostly fat! The bread was stale. Service dreadful. It took 1/2 hr to get our check after requesting it. THIS PLACE STINKS!!!

Talia’s is the best Glatt Kosher restaurant I have been to in New York! The food is amazing, I usually have a steak when I go but this past weekend I decided to try the chicken skewer with the middle-eastern platter, and I can honestly say I haven’t had hummus, tahini, or baba ganoush that good since my last trip to Israel. I just made my reservations for my family for Shavuot, and I can’t wait!

I had a great dining experience at Talia’s last night. We were a group of eight celebrating my brother’s birthday. We ordered prime rib for two, Thai beef salad, chicken Marsala, lamb shank and tilapia – all cooked to perfection and very tasty. The service was very professional and attentive. Our waitress, by the name of Angel, was very friendly and very knowable of making mixed drinks such as martinis and mojito. The ambiance of Talias is a perfect spot to throw a birthday party on a budget. Candle lit atmosphere with mellow, light live music together with a recession proof menu – which has very reasonable prices – all make Talias a very special kosher restaurant compared to other kosher restaurants in Manhattan. We saw a flyer attached to the prix fixe dinner menu indicating that Talia’s will be open to all meals during Passover 2010 and my Mom convinced my Dad to reserve seats for my family for the first Seder dinner. Do yourself a favor, do not forget to end your meal with chocolat... Read more

I have been going to Talia’s Steakhouse for years, and this weekend I had such a wonderful experience. My husband and I went to Talia’s on Thursday and it couldn’t have been better, it had been about a year since our last visit. While the food at Talia’s was always amazing the service was sometimes on the slow side…no longer the case! Our food came out in a very timely manor, our waitress was stellar, attentive, nice and informative. The appetizers and steak were delicious as expected. On top of that the live music made the evening all around perfect…I will back at Talia’s very soon. Wonderful!

My parent’s came to visit from Florida last weekend. We were walking around the upper west side, and my dad said that he wanted a steak, so we decided to go to Talia’s Steakhouse. The food was amazing and the wine was just as good. I was surprised by how affordable it was. Needless to say it was one of the best meals I have had in New York. My parent’s made me promise we would go there every time they visit. Not only will we do that, but I will be returning the first chance I get.

There are not enough restaurants like Talia’s Steakhouse in the city. Service was quick, food was great, and the ambiance was perfect after a long day at work. Added bonus: the live music. My favorite part of the night was dessert. The chocolate soufflé alone is worth the trip. You won’t leave disappointed.

I came to Talia's to visit a few friends. As they were half way through their brunch, I only ordered a beer and an an appetizer. I was surprised with how fast the food was served. Moreover, just as I was about to think that my Guinness is taking too long, the bartender brought it and said that he just changed the keg where and it was fresh. I am a big fan of dark beer and I have been to bars where changing the keg takes north of 10 minutes if they ran out of something. I was impressed by how fast he was able to do that and I definitely enjoyed that fresh Guinness very much. Definitely a place I would recommend.

I am a recent college graduate and recently started my accounting job with one of the big four audit companies. I am still very cost conscious when I go out in New York City. When some of my colleagues invited me to go for a dinner with them at Talia's, I was wary at best. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to bond with them, but I did not want to spend too much either. I suppose the recession menu offered at the place saved my worries. I was able to have a great meal with my friends at a very low price. The chicken marsala was one of the best I've had ever, with a great side dish of mashed potatoes. The waitress was always around when me and my friends needed her, and made the evening quite fun. I am sure that I will come again

My wife and I went last night for her birthday. We have been to most of the Kosher steakhouses in and around the city (Prime Girll, Le Marais, Hapisgah, Mabat, Levana, Mike's Bistro, etc.), so we have an expectation when we go to a steakhouse. Talia's calls itself a steakhouse, and charges more than Le Marais, so I was expecting a really good piece of meat, and I was extremely disappointed. The waitress told me the rib eye is the best piece of meat they have, so I ordered it. The only good thing I can say about it is that they cooked it to the doneness that I requested. Other than that, it was the same quality as any steak I can buy in grocery store. It was definitely not prime grade, nor was it aged. There were some thick strips of fat running through it - this was way more than marbeling. For $38 I expect a much better steak. My wife ordered the Chicken Marsala, and she immediately sent it back. It just tasted funny. She loves chicken marsala, and has had it in many differe... Read more

I was never more disappointed in a restaurant. I called two weeks in advance to reserve a table of 25 to celebrate a Birthday. The pre fix dinner sounded great $25 salad, entree, sides and soda. I guess you get what you pay for. I had to ask 6 times for water to be on the table. The food finally arrived 2.5 hours later however only half the table got their food the other half never received an entree!! It just never arrived. 6 people in the party left out of hunger! I was so embarassed no one at the restaurant seem to care. Good thing they left because the food was so gross no one could eat it. I mean nasty and disgusting! Then when I asked for the Manager one of the Waitors yelled at me. Then they had the nerve to charge $75 for a cake that was full of margin. I would never come back. Save your money and get a slice of pizza.. I can not believe how awful it was. I was so bad I had to warn people!! .

I spent both Thanksgiving and New Year's eve at Talia's. Both occasions I had a great time!!! The food they have is delicious - the most tender, mouth-watering steak ever!!! Soft music (including a live band!), candle-lit ambiance, warm and cozy - beautifully contrasting with the darkness and chill outside...And the staff is absolutely great and extremely friendly. The owner himself remembered me and treated our table to their signature chocolate soufflee -yummm... delicious chocolaty delight...I hope my boyfriend is going to surprise me with a romantic Valentine's' dinner at Talia's as well...

Last week my boss decided to pick Talia?s as the spot for our corporate party. We were a group of about forty. When we arrived to Talia?s the table for our group was well prepared with candles on each table. The ambience was very warm due to the dimly lit space. We had a four-course Prix Fix menu; Soup, Appetizer, Main dish and Dessert. Each course was from heaven. I had the potato leak soup and it was unbelievably tasty. The steak was very tender and juicy. Even the sushi was very special and well prepared. The selection of wines is very diversified; from France, Australia, California, Peru and Israel. I had a glass of Chateau Valandraud 2000 - Bordeaux and it was truly superb! The servers were very friendly and polite. Although we were a group of forty we received a very speedy service. Some of my colleagues were able to take pictures and to mingle comfortably. Moreover, we really enjoyed the live music of mellow, soft rock-n-roll. I guess my friend and I will ask our boss to have th... Read more

Yesterday, my parents had their anniversary, so we all went to celebrate at Talia's Steakhouse. Half an hour after we sat down the live band started playing, which was a pleasant surprise. Also, it's amazing how Talia's combines that coziness of a family-owned restaurant with the high-quality food and service of an upscale place. We ordered a bottle of the semi-sweet Barbera D'Alba red wine, which the waiter recommended, and we were particularly satisfied with that. The waiter was a very nice young man, who did his best to assist us. The food we ordered included a butcher's cut, a prime ribe for two and a filet, and they were all delicious and cooked right. It's nice to see the variety of side dishes that come in addition to our food. We could choose between six or seven items :) In spite of the abundant portions, we shared an apple tarte and a chocolate soufle for dessert. My parents said they did not imagine thair anniversary any better than that!

I was pleasantly surprised to see a musician playing clasic rock on his guitar. He was really good. It was just so nice to sit in a nice atmosphere, great ambiance and wonderfull music. We stopped in this restaurant while walking down Amsterdam. We hadn't heard anything about it before. The hostess was sitting outside, we didn't even know she worked there! Finally we sat down next to the window and some rude waiter told us to move now because they needed to open the windows (it was about 98 degrees outside). More importantly, even if you take away the below average service, the food was TERRIBLE! Salmon cakes were dry and had almost no taste, salad was warm and soggy and the stuffed chicken was way over cooked and had a weird taste we could not describe. I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone I know.

We were a group of four and we were greeted by a lovely hostess. We sat at Taia's outdoor cafe and enjoyed the live band. The prime rib for two was cooked for perfection and was very tasty. The service was very professional and attentive. The plates were really generously portioned. The professional feel is further seen in the well done mixed drinks especially in my Mojitos. The ambience is pleasant and cozy. Lastly, try the the chocolate suffle - amazzing.

If you want to torture yourself - this place is for you. If you want to take a lesson on how bad can a service be, how bad can a business be managed, how bad can staff treat their customers, how bad can a steak be prepared, and few other interesting classes - this place is for you. I don't think I had such a bad experience with a restaurant in NY in my 8 years of living here. None of the waiters has any clue what service is, how the meals are cooked, what they contain, how to pay attentions to customers' needs and so forth. You will get your drink when your friend gets his main course, she will get her drink when you get you desert which will probably come with the steak anyway... Talking about staeks, be ready to return it 3 times to their "kitchen" untill you get (more or less) what you wanted... When I was there I was lucky! the owner of the restaurant was sitting outside doing nothing... after fighting with all waiters in the restaurant, one of them told me I should go out to the o... Talia's steakhouse offers a great combination of delicious meal at a great price served in a great ambience and by pleasant and helpful servers. I went with my dad a few days ago. He had been outside the country for a while and was craving a nice american steak. we shared a prime rib for two as a main and we started with Tau beef salad. The steak and salad was so good that my dad insisted on us ordering one more steak and salad to take back home for my mom and brother to try. it was a great night as we were not only able to enjoy a delicioud meal but also a very pleasant conversation i a great ambience

Do yourself a favor and let this be the last second you consider eating at Talia's. Forget the food, which was mediocre at best. The level of service (or lack thereof) that my party received at this establishment was the worst I have ever encountered at a restaurant in New York; or anywhere else for that matter. Every single person who works at Talia's is completely incompetent. That is, if you can even figure out who your waiter is. It was pretty much a free-for-all that left us feeling like we were in the middle of a three-ring circus gone horribly wrong. Four people took our drink order and two of them never appeared again. Couple that with freezing cold food that arrived after almost an hour with each plate coming out in 15-minute intervals. One plate was thrown back at us by the extremely rude manager who had it microwaved because it was otherwise inedible. Oh yea, two dishes were completely forgotten about. After we raised our concern with a man we thought was our waiter, we we... Read more

It's hard to find such an exquisite steakhouse in Manhattan with such great food and service at the same time. It was a Saturday night, the live band and the dimly-lit dining room created a unique romantic atmosphere. These were definitely the 2 best hours I've spent in the last month! My date had a medium-rare butcher's cut steak cooked to perfection, while I followed the waiter's advice and went for a delicious chicken breast stuffed with spinach and mushrooms. The servers were very courteous and stopped a few times to make sure that we had everything we needed. In spite of the abundant portions, we still felt in the mood for a dessert and ordered the special of the house - a melted chocolate soufle. I would strongly recommend Talia's for restaurant goers on the Upper West Side. The experience was definitely worth it!

The food was nothing to write home about. The waitstaff could not get the order right. We were rushed into ordering and after we made the order, the staff tried to sell us on another tiem. The bar did not have the brand of liquor that we asked for. Finally, the check took 3 revisions and twenty minutes to get right. They added items to the bill that were never ordered in the first place. In conclusion, there are other kosker steakhouses in New York City that is worthy of your patronage.

We arrived at 4:30 pm. There was no waitstaff, a kitchen employee sat us and gave us a to go menu. We ordered burgers and fries. Fries not served but we were charged anyway. MW Burger was pink and raw towards center. There was no attention paid to us whatsoever. Our check was wrong and it was a time consuming (15 min.) process of dogging them to get it corrected. They then argued with us over prices. We pointed out the prices on the menus we were given. They told us that was not the right menu. A completely unprofessional experience, sad to say. Not to be re-experienced by us.

We had a Shabbat dinner at Talia's. The hospitality was outstanding; the owner really cared about our guests having fun. There was a prix-fix menu which included salad with sliced salmon, brisket or curry chicken for entree and tiramisu or chocolade dome for dessert. All the portions were big and delicious (even the desserts, given they were parve, were not bad). We got excellent value for our money and will definitely be back again.

We ordered the prime rib for two (in-bone). It was cut table-side which was very special. The attention we recieved in the out door seating was unbelievable. My date and I were overwhelmed with the atmosphere. We felt like royalty. We can not wait to go back. The atmoshere was dimly lit with old-school rock n' roll. I recommend the Thai-beef salsad and the Tiramisu. Start with a special martini called the Fliritini.

My husabnd and I went to Talia's with another couple this passed weekend, and the experience was not at all what we expected. Talias used to be one of our favortie restaurants, however I was really disappointed with the service, the portions of the food and the way we were treated. First off , who in the world charges $12 for 10 pieces of tortillas and Oz. of Gucamoli. ...Our salad had yellow and spoiled greens in it, and was so overdressed and salty we basically didn't touch it. (and we asked for the dressing on the side) Once the entrees came, our steaks were well done, well actually burnt ,when we asked for medium /rare!!! Given the fact that it was also a very bad peice of meat we basically did not touch our food...When I asked for the manager three people surrounded my table, which was quite emarressing, and one of them took my fork out of my hand and proceeded to cut my meat to see whether the middle of the meat is medeim .... which was not. Ordering drinks didn't go well as there was no bartender. Or heat, for that matter. Here?s my critique of the meal: The Chicken Ragu was pretty tasteless and I could have sworn it was reheated in the microwave because the bread had that mushy microwave texture (certainly not grilled as described) and the chicken wasn?t hot in spots. So I sent it back and got: 2. The Roasted Beet Salad. Despite it?s name and description, the beets were raw. I do not care for raw beets but do like roasted beets (go figure). Even my husband (who is Moroccan and loves beet salad) tasted it and didn?t much care for it. My husband ordered the special: 3. Potato Leek Soup, but he received Onion Soup. It was good, though sweet. 4. The Shoulder Steak, which my husband ordered medium, came rare- pink all the way through. It wasn?t bad and I helped him eat half of it because I ordered: 5. The Salsburry Steak which I asked for medium and got overly well done to the point where it was hard to cut. The mashed pota... Read more

Good concept, terrible execution. Half of our dishes had clearly come to the restaurant frozen, in a box. Sweetbreads--delicious when prepared fresh--were gamey and smothered in camouflaging flavors, clearly for a reason. Steaks were not cooked to specifications (far too well done) and not high quality at all for the price. Service is nice, but very spacey and very, very slow. I've given Talia's three chances, and now I won't be back.

Our experiance was miserable from the start. Not a single person was at a table when we walked in, but we were asked if we had a reservation, that was continuous with other people following in seating them in the back by the kitchen. A third of the menu isn't even available on a saturday, which is crazy considereing that is one of the biggest days to each out and the menu is extrememly limited. Then the steak was fatty and they only have one salad dressing. The service was MISERABLE! I will never eat here again. It was a waste of money and time. Tahlia's steak house was a huge miss.

Talia's Steakhouse is a good restaurant. It's your average kosher steak house: nothing exceptional, nothing bad. The waiters and waitresses are always super friendly, even though some can be very clumsy. The steaks are fine, not the best you'll find in the city but you get what you paid for as this place is not (too) expensive. The ambience is fine and the bar offers a very diverse wine list as well as lots of liquors and scotch. It's too bad the owner (which seems to terrify its employees) got rid of their spectacular Opera singing waiter!
