I have to agree with Chalky and Macbeth. Syracuse University was a huge waste of money and this school doesn't deserve to exist. I haven't been able to find work since graduation and no one in the career services office wanted to help me. They literally told me to my face: "We've done all we can for you, the economy's just really bad right now." When you're charging someone as much as SU does for tuition that's not a valid excuse. I had good grades, a strong internship and good recommendations from my professors and still haven't been able to find work; and when I tell people that on campus, they don't have any constructive advice to offer, they just look away shame-faced. For all the smoke they like to blow up their own asses on that campus they'd damned well better figure out how to do more for their graduates or this whole university can go straight to hell!

I had the good fortune to graduate from this pathetic shithole of a University just in time for the worst job market in fifty years. Their career services staff are absolutely worthless, the last on campus career fair was a complete joke. Of course, all that doesn't stop the alumni relations people from asking for donations! I can't believe the chancellor had the balls to ask Jamie Dimon to speak at the last commencement. The administrators of this university are completely clueless. To anyone thinking of SU because your grades weren't good enough to get into a SUNY school, my advice is DON"T GO TO SU! Syracuse University is a complete waste! Also, don't listen to ANYTHING that a recruiter from SU tells you! On the ladder of credibility, college recruiters are several steps below used car and insurance salesmen. Those are the exact same people that when you're struggling with student loan payments because you can't find work after graduation, they will look you right in the... Read more

Everyone who has been to Syracuse, New York, seems to agree that it's hell on earth, with nary a glimpse of sun between late November and sometime in March. Sure, location shouldn't be a serious factor in choosing a college, but knowing that the place gets more snow that any other city in the world might change your priorities. The professors are excellent, but only while they stay -- it's not only the climate that drives them away, but the administration, which was notorious, under chancellor Melvin Eggers and his later proxies, for making Syracuse the first major university explicitly modelled on a mega-corporation. It's no coincidence that porn emperor Lexington Steele is one of the most successful graduates of its business school, and that anyone working in a white-collar industry will run across Syracuse frat-boy networks on every step of the corporate ladder.

Update: I have to go w/a -1 on this one. Thanks for putting my sister and best friend into a lifetime of debt. You can't spell Sucks without 'su' Original: if you like going to school w/trust-fund babies from long island and new jersey then this school is for you......seriously average academics at a price almost equivalent to a harvard or yale

SU BASKETBALL makes it worth all by itself but... Wonderful professors, at least in my experience, wonderful rep for getting into the best grad schools, and yes, winter sucks but hey, with the good comes the bad. If you stick around for a Syracuse summer you won't be dissappointed. Beautiful lakes and rivers, beautiful country side, excellent parks, and the Adirondacks is a short drive away for magnificent mountain day hikes. Tully is a great area for hiking too, only about 10 minutes away from campus. Get to know the surrounding area a little, and you;ll find that it is truly beautiful. Besides, students play golf for free, what more can you ask for?

Excellent academics. Rising in prestige, a member of AAU and a tier one (top 50) national university. Social life among the best of any private schools. Good diversity, strong Greek system, lots of bars and parties.

Good school that produces a number of high-profile alumni, people you've seen on the news or making news. They have an excellent School of Communications and some other worthy programs. If you want to work in NYC, you'll find your fair share of SU alumni in The City. Syracuse the town isnt a bad place to go to school in , but upstate NY can be depressing with all the snow and overcast weather. This isnt a factor to take lightly either. Good sports teams at SU. There are a lot of jewish students and a lot of very pretty black girls who go to SU.

Newhouse, Maxwell...make up, somewhat, for some of the more lackluster academics overall that have come over the past few decades. But man, the sports! I love Syracuse, always will, can't help it...Great place, deal with the snow!!

Has several good departments and is noted for lacrosse. Ever been to upstate NY in winter? I rest my case.

Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Maxwell School of Citizenship are the two best schools in the world in their field.

SU is a real good university, it would be great if not for the upstate NY winters...Great education, and outstanding teams in all sports (men and women)...The Syracuse basketball and football teams are consistently in the top ten in the country year after year, which again is no small feat considering the inclement weather much of the year.

Great school but not too much going on if you're not a freshman or in the greek system.
