I was always under the impression that cashier clerks made good money, but this isn't necessarily so. I know at some stores you're lucky if they start you out at 7 or 8 dollars an hour, and to me that isn't enough to put up with rude customers that don't like waiting in line and there's only two cashiers available. Maybe the store should hire more help and treat their emplyoyees a little better.

If you want to be part of a cash register, this is the job for you. Check your imagination at the door.

I don't imagine it is much different than being a convenience store cashier. You put up with needy, whiny people all day that pay your paycheck and they make sure you know it daily. You clean up after the hogs as well, and then when you are all done you get bawled out by an ungrateful boss no matter how hard you worked. The sad thing, I actually miss it...lol...

Being a cashier at a supermarket doesn't have to be all bad! It can be fun if you work in a place where there are a lot of "regular customers". Your co-workers can make the job fun too if they have a sense of humour and don't take the job too seriously. It's true you get rude customers, and it is quite repetitive, but I believe it's all about your attitude. Just laugh things off! You can see it all working as a cashier.

It's a tough job but it can be done. You have to set the tone as soon as the customer walks into your station with groceries, clothiong ect. You look the person dead in the eye and give a happy but firm smile. If the customers is whining you stare them in the eye and you tell them the way it is. Do not back down! The customer is not always right! Whoo!!!!!!

I was a cashier while in college and it was awful. People can be so rude to you. I was always thankful for the nice customers and would bend over backwards to help them in any way I could. Can't say I would do anything for the rude ones.

I worked as a cashier for awhile and I agree it can be a very lousy job. People can be so rude and nasty sometimes. I think they forget that the person on the other side of the counter is a human being too and they think it's OK to take out their anger and frustration on the poor cashier who is just trying to do their job. I must say though, there have been quite a few times where I was the customer who had to deal with a rude or inattentive sales clerk. Rudeness is something that shouldn't be tolerated on either side of the counter.

I've never been rude to supermarket cashiers and I make it a point not to be especially if I've been standing in line for a while because I've been on the other side of the fence myself to pay my way as a student. I honestly don't think that half of the people who work as cashiers in supermarkets chose this as a destined profession (it can be so mind-numbing at times). The abuse they recieve from irate customers sometimes is really unnecessary and whoever invented the phrase The customer is always right honestly needs to find a new slogan as too many times this gets abused.

I work as a produce clerk at a grocery store, and I wouldn't trade it for any other job, especially being a cashier.

i know there has to be better jobs than being a Supermarket cashier. It has to be a pain when things go wrong. such as items not scanning right. I am sure there are those share of customers who can be real As******. I have seen both sides of the fence where cashiers are> I know they have dealt with nasty customers who are rude and treat them like crap. but i have also seen the other side where sometimes they are the ones who can be nasty and act as if we are a pain in the rear for even being there.

I've been a supermarket cashier for over four years now, and I think it is one of the worst jobs out there. I have to deal with whiny, demanding, unreasonable, rude, jerks day after day after day. People seem to think we're verbal punching bags or emotionless robots or something. I've had people yell at me over things that I have no control over (such as the crowd in the store or if their credit card is declined, etc.), threaten me, spit at me, and other crap. One of my co-workers was even physically assaulted once by an irate customer. We do a thankless job and get no respect. It really stinks that we have to stand there and smile sweetly and take their abuse. Being a cashier has really made me bitter towards people. I hope that now that I'm out of college, I'll soon find a much better job. I know I wil NEVER work for the general public again.
