Sunset Boulevard

It was a good movie for its genre,but every time I see even one scene from it Carol Burnettes send up of it pops into my head and I lose it.

No wonder Hollywood didn't like it...

So weird and eerie and smart.

Creepy story, well acted. Gloria Swanson had a lot of guts to parody herself and many other famous actresses. William Holden is great as her "toy-boy".

Dear 'Gone Away'.....Why dont people like you get your facts right when it comes to great movies like this. It was NOT Myrna Loy it was Gloria Swanson ! This is pur 'film noir' and a classic and anybody who doesn't appreciate the great quoted one-liners like 'I am big, its the pictures that got small !' is NOT a real movie buff. One of then all time great films with Hollywood poking fun of itself! A true classic

No better than mediocre.

This is a pretty good movie about an aged and secluded ex-movie actress who has really lost all touch with reality. Gloria Swanson turned in a very memorable performance.

I love the whole affair between Holden and Swanson - it all works. The perversion of the affair, Holden as the spineless gigolo, Swanson as a Beverly Hills nutcase - all worked. Swanson played the vamp / victim really beautifully - very, very hard to do right.

Swanson was brilliant as the aging film star who hired a screenwriter (Holden) to assist in her comeback. After they became so close, he thought he could manipulate her, but he found out otherwise. It was almost like these characters played themselves. Eerie but fascinating look at the loss of fame with now very classic scenes.

The classic tale of faded silent film star Norma Desmond is hilariously funny, and interesting at the same time. Great performances.

Billy Wilder's greatest creation includes three unforgettable characters all stuck in a terrible, despicable situation. Gloria Swanson giving the final line "All right, Mr. Demille. I'm ready for my closeup" is one of the great moments in cinema. This masterpiece shows the true callousness of Hollywood, the fleeting fancy of fame, and the dangers of delusion and idealism. One of the greatest movies about the movies ever made.

I first saw "Sunset Blvd" at age 13 the month it was released, Aug of 1950. It's been my favorite movie ever since. In 2000, I saw a restored 50th anniversary print on the big screen. I enjoyed it just as much as that little boy did back in 1950. Of course, I have it on video and watch it once a year, but now I would like to buy it on DVD. It's a perfect picture---writing, directing, cinematography, and lighting all working with perfect performances. Bravo!

This is one terrific movie, and Gloria Swanson is magnificent!! Not one word is unnecessary or wasted, the characters have depth and complexity, and there is a ghastly pervasive realism that grips one by the throat from opening credits to the finish. And what woman wouldn't want to be loved the way Max von Meyerling loves Norma Desmond? He protects her until reality-provoked insanity provides her with it's cocoon

Is Gloria Swanson just the epitome of high camp or what? I can still remember just sitting there wide-eyed the first time I saw it as a kid. It had the same kind of way off the wall black comedy thing going on as “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte” or “Baby Jane”. If you don't believe me, ask Carol Burnett.

Sunset Boulevard is one of the best films ever made. I've never seen the stage musical version, but don't see how it could work. It would be like making a musical out of Casablanca or something. Sunset Boulevard IS William Holden and Gloria Swanson, it IS Billy Wilder's story and direction, and camera angles. Billy Wilder is a brilliant director, and the acting is fabulous. The storyline and the whole mood of the piece is so wonderfully dark, with just enough comedic bits to break it up a bit. Fabulous film.

The music is wonderful, as is the storyline.
