I have been meeting study groups at Sugarhouse Coffee for the past 2 semesters pretty regularly and I'm starting to wonder why I keep going there. My friends and I are constantly harassed by the employees, for not ordering right away and finding a table first, or taking up a "reserved" area for a group that never even showed up. The employees were extremely uncouth in addressing us. I went in for breakfast this morning with my brother and waited 20 minutes for our sandwiches before I finally went up to the counter and asked where our sandwiches were. *All three employees were eating and drinking behind the counter, which I find extremely unsanitary and disgusting. when the barista brought our sandwiches out they were so burnt we could only eat the middle of the sandwich... My guess is they forgot about our sandwiches on the grill and figured we wouldn't notice. Every time I go to Sugarhouse Coffee someone screws up my drink and acts bothered if I ask them to correct their mistake. I w... Read more

I have been visiting sugarhouse coffee for 2 years now, at all hours of the day, 6am, 11pm, 4pm, whatever. I always had a great experience until the past 20 or so visits. There is this new lady, who is HORRIBLE, yet somehow gets all the hours and is usually the only worker at times. Without fail, and this is with all seriousness and NO exaggeration what so ever. Everytime I have gone where she has worked and directly served me or rung me out, something went wrong BECAUSE of her. Either she made a wrong drink, or food item. Or she charged me wrong and claims it how its ALWAYS been... One time she even looked at me with a DEVIL look after I asked another employee to remake a drink she made because it was way too sweet, and was THROWING change into the drawer of the next customer she was helping. Literally throwing it and causing a huge uncomfortable scene with the new customer. One time she almost pushed the computer screen off in anger and had to catch it when she charged me in... I love this place so much. It's worth the drive from Sandy at any hour of the day. They have an awesome menu, amazing vegan choices. The staff is fun, the local art they have on display is always good for conversation starters. The live music they have is a lot of fun to go check out. I really can't say anything bad about this place. And outside of what you buy at a grocery store, this is the only place I will buy coffee from.

I have always loved sugarhouse coffee. It is a quaint little shop where you can escape with a book, listen to music, or attend those friday bbq's!!! But it seems like the owner doesn't value his employees. I have come in more than once, to hear him yelling at them (yes YELLING) in the back room. Everytime I come in, I see them scrubbing and cleaning, always attentive at the counter, make my drinks promptly, and the food is delicious. It ruins the mood. And it angers me because I have grown to know this business. I felt like family. But I l can't listen to him verbally abuse his employees. They don't deserve it.

I have to give sugarhouse coffee a poor review. If I could give them no stars, I would. I used to like them, but after my experience this morning, I will never return. I was trying to get help with an issue with an old p-nch card that they have honored EVERY other time I have visited the new location since they moved. I was told instead that they have no p-nchers and haven't had any since they moved - basically calling me a liar. Trust me, I was not lying to get a p-nch on my card so I could earn a stupid $2 coffee. And if they understood customer service they'd agree with me and give me the p-nch on the card. But no. And now they've lost a customer. Two, in fact, as I can guarantee my husband will never go there either. It also s-cks that they don't have different kinds of milk available for coffee. I hope the manager reads this.

I don't actually like their coffee, but the baristas are friendly and the location is very convenient for me, so I still go there. I think they use coffee from Rimini, which many coffee shops use in Salt Lake. Rimini coffee is not good! I've tasted different espresso and coffee from Rimini in different places and most of the time I'm very dissapointed. I guess you can't really blame the baristas when the coffee is bad to start with. Their sandwich and food menu is pretty good though.

Really nice people and good food, but the music is ridiculously loud! You can't even hear a person two inches in front of you and don't even consider reading or studying.

I've only had one occasion where they forgot my order but humans are humans and we make mistakes. They're vegan friendly...the baristas can make almost every beverage they make vegan (almost). It's open at all sorts of odd hours. It's a good place to hang out with friends. Watch people. Plus it's within walking distance of several other neat shops. It's a good place to go at 1 in the morning when you're craving that Chile Verde Rico Burrito!

Right on the corner of Highland and 21st South. Good coffee and a relaxing atmosphere.

The vegetarian sandwich here is great. If you're in a hurry, I'd try calling ahead, though. The coffee is skippable. The "dark roast" usually uses some weird beans and tastes like tires (think of the old Starbucks Sumatran days). Also, they sell really good vegan cookies (not their own, though).

I love this little place... they have wireless internet on the cheap, great pastries, awesome coffee, and is generally staffed by wonderfully unerground folk with lots of personality. it's open *really* late on friday and saturday nights, so if you're looking for a post-club hot drink or a late night study spot, this place is perfect. my favorite coffee place in slc.
