His problem is that he is a fundamentalist extremist and looks like a toxic toad, to boot. He is not taken seriously except by extreme partisans.

For his humor and spirit, I would give Moore 5 stars. BUT, because he does not provide adequate documentation for all the claims he makes in this book, and because a few of the claims are intellectually dishonest, I have to say his effort was a bit disappointing overall. He is sloppy with the facts in this book. There are facts that, objectively presented, would support some of Moore's positions, but they would require greater explanation, digging, and work on Moore's part. Instead, the burden is on the reader to track down or decipher sources. There are much better books available out there. One example: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, by Greg Palast. This book takes a well-documented look at forces (financial and ideological) influencing politicians of all stripes, Democrat, Republican, and others, and readers of all backgrounds and beliefs would benefit by reading Palast's work (instead of Moore's).

maybe it's because i'm a Canadian and removed from the controversy surrounding Michael Moore and his body of work, but i think he has some valid point regarding not only the U.S.A but the world in general. He puts up a good, well supported argument and he is a very intelligent man.

Anybody want to guess who the ONE person to agree with ClassicTVFan47 on this subject - so far, anyway - is? Me! I never thought I'd say it, but ClassicTVFan47 made a groundbreaking, beautifully concise assessment of Michael Bitter, Socialist Tub of Lard Moore. I am totally dumbfounded by this, but I'll take what I can get I suppose. Moore may or may not be a socialist, but as I am currently re-reading Atlas Shrugged, he reminds me more and more of the type of selfish (and there is nothing inherently wrong with self-interest, necessarily) bastard who wants to advance himself at the expense of those who have actually earned their fortunes. So he plays to the lowest common denominator and bitches about the wealthy in order to become wealthy. And the guy is making a killing, but unfortunately he has made as such by way of misinformation and an overall lack of integrity.

The title of this book is aptly named, it's about a bunch of, actual white men who seem to be making a career out of being stupid and making poor decisions, so what better title than this, as a white man,I don't find it racist in the least. In my opinion, from what I know of Michael Moore, he seems to be anit-stupid, not anti-American. The fact that so many Americans are upset about this book, is for many reasons I would imagine, but one imparticular might be that most of the Stupid white Men in this book, happen to be from the United States. This book could have just as easily been about members of any Gov't but as an American, he is writting about what he know's best, his own system of Gov't and it's effects on his nation. Micheal Moore is a man who does his research and I personally have not witnessed any occacions where he has spoken about something he knows nothing or little about. This western society, in my opinion, has come to a halt with respect to positive movement forward... Read more

Why is this under the 'nonfiction section'? Moores blatant anti-americanism is shameful, and his lies extreme. Thats right, I said HE IS ANTI-AMERICAN!

Michael Moore is brilliant, funny, witty and thank God for his outspoken nature. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in participating in their government. Why such an uproar over the title? Is it racist? In absolute terms, possibly. In relative terms, HELL NO. Stupid white men have been in charge of this country since it's founding. It was stupid white men that allowed slavery to be codified into the Constitution, it was stupid white men that disallowed Chinese, Japanese, and various other ethnic groups from becoming citizens, it was stupid whte men that FORCED AMERICAN CITIZENS of Japaense decent into CONCENTRATION CAMPS during World War II. Individuals should be judged by "the content of their hearts and not the color of their skin". However, as a group, it's time for White people to listen to a little criticism about their ethnic group's treatment of others in this country. In case anyone is wondering, I'm Portuguese and German (just about as white as you can get).

Another clever , well researched book by a regular guy with a penchant for justice. I have a hard time beleiving that all the people who gave this book a negative reveiw actually read it. To state the books title is racsist is a patheitic cop out. I know he pain of a white man (I am one) we have been persecuted for hundreds of years? Do not state that you have been offended racially you liar. Please refrain from reveiwing books on things that you perceive to be true without even reading page one. Moore fights for the interest of everyday Americans, you would know this to be true if you actually checked him out. Unless you make more than 400k a year you should stop attacking the man. If you question what he says than do your own research, prove him wrong.

Once past the title, I found his message valid, stimulating, and sad. I read the O'Reilly Factor at the same time, and found that both men offered a similar message, one that every citizen concerned with the state of the Union could find helpful. It's also my message in Gossip Kills. What happened to our values? What happened to our outrage at outrageous things?

I gotta say, this man makes a few good points. He also is very intelligent. He and I don't share a lot of the same views, but I respect the fact that he holds his own.

This guy is one of the biggest idoits on the face of the earth. Moore is so sure he's right that he simplifies everything he doesn't understand, which is most things. He think he's the guy against "the man", but he's just an uninformed stooge.

Not a big fan of Moore's style, though I can see the appeal he has among liberals/progressives. If you're looking for social commentary that manages to be sharp and humorous while staying away from political name-calling, I recommend Joe Queenan.

Agree that this book is "as good as" any of his movies - all of which are a collection of contrived, stages lies. The Stupid White "Man" is Moore himself - who actually gets money from idiots for producing dung that prove he hates all of humanity!! The degree of unmitigated contempt he spews into the world is incomprehensible!!1 It WILL all come back on him, as John Lennon said "Instant Karma's gonna get you - it's gonna grab you by the FACE!"...I hope it's soon, and I hope we all get to watch it - that would be justice!

READ THE BOOK FIRST BEFORE YOU CLAIM THE TITLE TO BE RACIST! I give Michael Moore credit for standing up against the Bush administration. His arguments are educated and factual. Don't fall under Bush's propaganda. read the news from Canadian, European and other sources ( even british ). And the book's full of laughs...what wit!

As I said before, I would never read a book titled such as this. I don't care if the book itself is really awesome, but if this author cannot come up with a title that is a little less racist, then I am not gonna buy it. IF this same author had titled the book STUPID BLACK MEN, or STUPID HISPANIC MEN, you can bet all kinds of drama would have occured already, and he would be banned everywhere. Until this man changes the overly racist title, I do not recommend this garbage to anyone..... ~~~Kolby

True the title needs changing, nevertheless something I've noticed about uninformed Americans...they can't take the truth or useful criticism...even by one of their own. Michael Moore actually says what most of the world thinks.

You have to be an American to be brainless enough to insult Michael Moore, one of the most deeply respected documentarists in Europe (and a deserved Oscar winner) - maybe you should do something with your lives, you loosers.

Most people seem to have rated the book on its title, it may help to read the book before you post. The title is relevant as the book refers to stupid men who are white. A book on stupid men of Chinese origin would require a different title. Generally this book is well researched and enjoyable. Isn’t it a shame, that the world’s oldest democracy has become an arena for two corrupt, competing elite groups? That the winner had to resort to unlawful means to gain power? That the rights of people who have been to prison are ignored? Calls for reform in the democratic process are long overdue in the popular press, and this is probably the best example. Unfortunately Moore does have a tendency to oversimplify complicated issues, his suggestion for peace in Northern Ireland by encouraging Catholics to breed is absurd. This has already happened and it has not brought peace. Now that the Catholics represent the majority the Protestants will never accept autonomous rule, as they would l... Read more
