Yes, I know Stroh Brewing bought Schlitz (1982), then was bought by Pabst Brewing (1999), but I think they've taken care to maintain the integrity of this brand. Whenever I've tried it, and that has not been often (it's not sold in Louisiana), I always thought it was a really good beer. I look forward to trying it again. RJT

Not bad if you really ice it down well in the cooler.Inexpensive way to please a lot of tailgaters or campers.

The fire brewed Strohs from Detroit, and later from the former Schaefer plant in Pennsylvania (explaining its part in the classic film Slapshot) was a tremendous rich and flavorful lager. I had it on tap in my storefront apartment (which was known as The Country Bunker). It was truly one of my favorite beers ever! Due to many financial follies, such as purchasing Schlitz, which was a much larger brewery than Strohs was, the Stroh family decided to get out of the business. The Strohs beer that Pabst makes and sells now is not the same at all, but it is drinkable and allows me to enjoy my memories.

It used to be a decent lager before all the buy-outs took place. We no longer see the newer version in the Northwestern U.S. so I can't comment on what it has become.

Back in 1981 my boss gave me six pack of Strohs (cheap prick) after I quit my job to drive cross country with a buddy. We were buying the cheapest beer available usually Old Milwaukee, Black Label or Pabst. All terrible. One night we ran out of beer so we cracked open the Strohs. After one swig we agreed it was the worst beer we had ever tasted and stopped drinking for the night. We threw out the rest. It's fire brewed all right. It tasted like they lit a book of matches and dropped them in each bottle. I never had one again.

First beer I ever drank. And while I would agree that the Pabst recipe changes were unwelcome, it's still my favorite cheep beer out there. It's heavy, thick stuff and to me has certain ale characteristics, specifially in hop balance, color and mouth feel.

I used to live a mile from the local Stroh's brewery, East St. Paul, approximatley 20 years ago. It changed from Pabst to Stroh's. I have been drinking Stroh's ever since. I think it's a good beer. Thanks.

Thanks, Pabst, for buying this brewery and turning a good, unique (fire brewed) beer into buffalo urine. The ORIGINAL Strohs was terrific. My first beer buzz was on the original Strohs.

THE BEST, I AM 20 AND LIVE IN MICHIGAN AND GO TO WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY. I know some of you oldies remember it in it's prime, but rest assured it can still get some sorority girls panties to drop!

This was the "alternative" beer when I was in high school - an alternative to what I don't know. Drink something else.

Oh the Strohs 30 pack... Cape Cod, summer of 1988 on vacation fresh after high school graduation with 2 of my best friends form high school. It was near the end of our eweek of vacation, so all of the beer that we had brought with us on the trip was gone. Thanks to the 3 hairs on my chest and a horrible fake ID, yet the best in the lot, I was nominated to go into the package store (with the shirt off to epose my manliness) and buy the beer for the night. I walked out with 2 Strohs 30 packs. I got back into the van and my buddies were ecstatic, but thought 60 beers for us may be too much for the night. I told them we needed a place to stay and this fine brew would help us meet some nice young ladies that would put us up for the night. We sat in the van in a gas station parking lot for about an hour and unbelievably. we met 3 cool, really good looking and rich girls from CT, we went to some biker party on the beach and then were invited back to their condo on the beach and hung out... This totally reminds me of Comisky Park 1977 -- Chet Lemon was in his prime, Harry Carey was a drunk radio announcer overshadowed by an ever drunker Jimy Pearsal (sp?), the American people hadn't yet given up on Jimmy Carter. Ah, yes, it was a different era, and Stroh's was its beer.
