The intro to Tori's cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun ought to reach out and grab any handgun advocate and give them pause for deep thought and perhaps reconsideration. When George Bush is quoted as saying "I believe that those who commit crimes should not have guns" you just have to shake your head and wonder what is up with the intelligent quotient of this world. If you listen to nothing else Tori has performed (and if that's the case you are missing some amazingly stirring music), I highly recommend this CD, and her cover of this Beatles classic. I played it over and over, during the painful years of the Bush Administration, to remind me that we really are among some pretty stupid and dangerous thinking (or perhaps not thinking) people. All of the songs she covered, like 10 cc's "I'm not in Love" take on new (and at times reflect some pretty shallow and perhaps cruel verse), we didn't quite think about when originally released. A special thanks to Tori Amos for inspiration. I wouldn'... Read more

Amazing and genius covers, however, sometimes a hard listen (ex: Happiness is When That Damn Song is Over). Strange Little Girl, New Age and Real Men are stand outs for me.

While I think the idea in and of itself may not be entirely original, I found this album far more enjoyable than I originally imagined I would. For anyone who enjoys Tori's style and musical talent, the album is obviously a must-have... however, that being said, a newcomer to Tori should probably start with 'Little Earthquakes' or 'Scarlett's Walk'.

When I first got this CD a few years ago I wasn't able to appreciate the substance and style of this CD....now I have matured so to speak into my 30s I really LOVE it! It's absolutely enchanting...her unique voice....takes me to another world! She's a great songwriter/singer!!!

Tori Amos' worst is still light-years ahead of 90% of the rest of the music world. This covers album is half-brilliant. Songs like Rattlesnakes, New Age, Real Men, and Strange Little Girl are just brilliant. Her re-interpretation of Eminem's 97 Bonni and Clyde is a work of mad and chilling genius - like watching a really scary movie. Some of the songs are duds though - Happiness is a Warm Gun does *not* deserve its epic length. You'll either love or hate what she does to 'Heart of Gold' - personally I love it, but everyone else I know thinks her cover of that song was a massacre. Definently NOT the first album to get if you're looking to get into Tori Amos, but an interesting and good offering just the same.

Kudos to Tori for the valiant attempt; she pulls of some adventurous covers on this album, but you're better off buying the British and German pressings of her CD-singles, each of which has one or two or three "unreleased" tracks, a few of which are nify covers. Or better yet, go to a live show: once you've heard Tori live doing "Landslide," you'll burn all your Smashing Pumpkins and Dixie Chicks records forever. An absolute must for Tori fans, but not really for anybody else. If you're thinking of getting into Tori, this is NOT the first disc of hers you should buy!

One of the fewest and best cover albums out there.

This album does not quite live up to her previous work but it's still great to listen to. Her version of '97 Bonnie & Clyde sends chills down my spine everytime I listen to it. Strange Little Girl is another beautiful and quite fast song while Rattlesnake takes the whole thing to a slower level. Happiness is a warm gun didn't really make sense but was fun to listen to. The only thing that made me give it a 4 are the songs I'm not in love, which is too slow, and Enjoy the Silence, no one, not even Tori Amos should be allowed to torture such a beautiful song.
