Probably my second favorite band, next to Dishwalla. I grew up listening to them and I love every album they made. The only thing I don't like is that I can't relate to a lot of the lyrics. But I LOVE their sound. I'm so excited that they reunited this year.

The creative forces for this band were brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo, not Scott Weiland.  Dean DeLeo, the guitarist, frequently blended Led Zeppelin licks, jazz chords, and chromatic movements into STP’s songs.  What this translated into was a sound that was richer and fuller than the power chord driven rock of the 1990s.  All of the musicians in this band were superb and they recorded some great songs.  Unfortunately, STP burned out too quickly.

Pretty commercial, but at least they rock.I'll put it this way,I wouldn't BUY their stuff, but I don't have to change the station if they come on the radio.

Always thought they were unfairly slated in the US and ignored in the UK. OK, Core and No4 had echoes of Pearl Jam they were pretty slight. As for Purple and ..vatican, there was little grunge to be found. A good consistent band who deserved better from the critics.

The brothers were a strong musical/production team and Scott Weiland, though kinda creepy, was a monster vocalist. Didn't deserve the negative reviews too-hip critics gave them. Mid-career albums were the strongest and worth having, but band turmoil cursed these boys and forced them to hit bottom. Too bad.

Didn't last very long thus can't get 5 stars, but a damn good mid-to-late 90's band with terrific songs.

In the UK the only grunge band that got any mainstream attention was Nirvana. But's that down to the utterly sh*te playisting policy of 99% of radio stations here. So, the only way to hears about bands like STP was to listen to their CDs on spec. I understand that US critics generally dissed them. Dunno why, they sound pretty good to me and better than Nirvana, but praps not quite as great as Soundgarden.

STP is one of the few grunge bands of the early 90's that I connected to as a teenager. Songs like Creep and Big Empty stood out for me for their raw emotion. Scott Weiland seemed like a great lead vocalist at the time, but his appeal seems tragically gone as the lead singer of the new band Velvet Revolver. Perhaps his vocal abilities and stage presence has been harmed by destructive cycles that keep landing him back in rehab centers. It's a shame, but Scott Weiland has been in Betty Ford more often than Gerald.

I ONLY count STP before No.4. because, i mean, Shangra La Ti Da? WTF?!?! It's sad that Scott had to get OFF of drugs in order to START sucking *sighs* but their old music is pretty much a staple...

Used to be a 5 star band. Their later stuff just doesn't have the quality of the old, but that happens to most bands. "Core" and "Purple" are 2 cds that belong on everyone's shelf.

Unfortunately, STP became popular right after Nirvana hit it big, and because of this they were not given the credit they deserve. STP was an excellent alternative band, very talented, and their music was wonderfully grunge. "Interstate Love Song" is definately one of their best, along with "Plush." I just wished Scott Weiland would stay the hell away from heroin, and maybe they could come back with a great album.

    PERSONAFIED GRUNGE WITH THEIR SONG"CREEP"

  • by

A lot more talented and musical than most people give them credit for. Weiland is like the Robert Downey Jr. of music, though. After awhile you just stop believing that he'll ever sober up enough to make full use of his talent again. The DeLeo bros. are very talented, and musically inventive. The only reason they don't get a 5 star rating from me is because they were never very original, every song sounds like someone else but you can never pin down just exactly WHO it sounds like, which is why they cannot be reduced to hack imitators. I hope they continue producing quality music well into the future.

They were unfairly punked early for being a Pearl Jam clone despite the fact that Core was released BEFORE Ten was. Ten just caught on quicker than Core did. Since then they have just gotten better and better, for the most part. Heres how I'd rate their albums: 1. Purple 2. Core 3. No.4 4. Shangri La Dee Da 5. Tiny Music They are all outstading albums though.

They are the Led Zeppelin of our day. The Deleo brothers are such great songwriters and musicians. Kretz also rocks on the skins. These guys really know how to make the magic happen in the studio. On a different note, I have to be honest about Weiland. His vocals are not sharp live. Although a great performer and frontman, you can't cover up major vocal miscues live. They definitely take advantage of the added sounds that a studio can create.

STP are the best band ever. 'Core' is definetely the best album to come out of the grunge era. I've listened to so many other grunge albums by Nirvana, Alice In Chains etc.and Core is about 100 times better than all of them (not to say they arent good). Any STP fan knows they dont sound like Pearl Jam and are way better. Their music is so much more interesting, and Pearl Jam arent even a grunge band anyway. Their second album 'Purple' is awesome as well, not as good as Core but still really great. After those two albums there isnt much more to say. Tiny Music was really disappointing and I didnt even bother listening to the last two albums after hearing 'Heaven and Hotrods', and 'Days of the Week'. Anyway every grunge/heavy metal/rock fan should own 'Core', I consider it the greatest album of all time.

STP snuck up on me. For a long time, the STP songs I heard on the radio did nothing for me. One day, without any conscious effort on my part, the song Big Bang Baby (from the Tiny Music album) started playing in my head, and I didn't even know the song was an STP song, I just knew that it clicked with me, and I liked it a lot. The next time I heard it on the radio, I listened at the end, to hear the DJ announce the band's name. When I learned that it was STP, I was surprised, because I had written them off as uninteresting. Then I started to listen to STP more and more, and now I am totally hooked on their music. For me at least, these guys really rock seriously. Some may agree, and others may not (hey, it's their loss). STP is easily one of my favorite rock bands.

This band and the Smashing Pumpkins are the two bands that have influenced my music taste the most. I heard the song Sex Type Thing and the single Creep in the fourth grade and I feel in love. This is a band always reinventing its sound and always driving themselves into the ground. Core was an incredible album. Every album since Core however, has been a step down. Especially Tiny Music. Since then they seem to be trying to find their place in music. They don't really fit in with bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit. I hope these guys stick together and one day salvage what they lost so long ago.

They released some great material in the early-to-mid '90's, but their latest one (No. 4) just doesn't grab me like the other albums. Definitely lost a step, but still a better band than Pearl Jam.

A great kick-ass rock band I'd have to say. Their is no joke. They write, play it,and whatever it.Plainly they rock.If your lookin' for a real rock band from the 90's ,for me it would be Stone Temple Pilots.

Stone Temple Pilots have the be the best kick ass rock band on the radio today. Their music is just so wonderful. Scott Weiland's lyrics and melodies are just so beautiful that they make you want to cry. Either listen to Still Remains on Purple, Sour Girl on No.4, Plush on Core or all of his 12 Bar Blues album to relate to what I am saying. Robert DeLeo is the best bassist around. Listen to the basslines on all their songs to figure out what I mean. What he writes sounds so good with the vocals, guitars and drums. It makes it all sound complete. Also, he is VERY talented at the guitar. Listen to Daisy on Tiny Music to see what I mean. That song is beautiful. Dean DeLeo is the BEST guitarist in the rock genre to date. He is the Jimi Hendrix of the 21st Century. Listen to the solo in Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart on Tiny Music, Down on No. 4, Vasoline on Purple or Plush on Core. Those are all songs that show his talent. Now, Eric Kretz is a VERY talented drummer. When Scott and Ro... Read more

I just saw them front row in Montreal and they were amazing! They were so much better than RHCP and should have been the ones headlining. Being a fan who knows almost every word to every song, I was lost for words. I have never seen a better show! Thanks guys!
