Steak'n'Shake rocks the house! They may be kinda' pricey, but they are worth every penny. I've never had anything there I didn't like. Their burgers kick ass, their fries are the BEST of any fast food chain out there, and their shakes are heavenly. Steak'n'Shake restaurants are kinda' scarce though..I'm SO glad we have one in my neck of the woods. If they ever went out of business I would be in mourning for years.

used to be good value, but portions have shrunk very fast in the past year or so. indeed, in some cases, have received three different sizes in three successive visits for the same item over the course of a month or so - a simple bowl of chili. large shakes have also shrunk. onion rings too perhaps - hard to tell as the whole regular for a large onion ring has always apparently been confusing to the brain trust working at the local sns. at first, thought it was just poor training, workers getting the wrong size cup or container, but having checked out the shake thing at a second sns, it appears to be corporate policy.

Fast food shit, add waitresses and charge more. No worse than Wendy's or Burger King, but no better either.

It's always great to hear comments from a customers pov! Although just like must customers most of your complaits are unfixable! If it's the price your complaining about then wow it says alot about you. The average cost of any meal is 5.50 maybe you shouldn't add that large 2000 calorie milk shake to your meal for additional 4 bucks. The burgers are small but they come in single double and tripple all for the same price. Under 4 dollars!!!!!!!! Last I checked the cheapest meal at mcdonalds was 5 dollars plus and who knows what your eating. Sorry Sns can't offer you the belt busting heart attack mystery burger your used to. Service! well at 213 an hour you get what you pay for perhaps if people would start tipping more than a buck you might get Better service hmmm black folks!!! Yeah you! Everyone knows you expect royalty when you sit down the odd thing is most of you are bad employees yourselves. So stick with what you know find something wrong after your meal is done then complain an... Read more

If I want a fast food quality burger and shake, I'd just assume go to a fast food place and pay fast food prices for it. Their burgers aren't really that much better than McDonald's (and possibly slightly worse than Burger King, Wendy's or Hardee's), and their normal steakburgers are paper thin. They're really quite overpriced for a burger place, although the pepper sauce on the table is a nice touch.

Steakburger? It all comes from beef. Your a McDonalds with waitresses. Get over it and get some realistic prices for a hamburger.

I love the fact that this place is open 24/7. The burgers have good flavor but are small. Get a double burger if you want more heft. The side-by-side chocolate and banana shake is great! And the fries are great too! They are thin so they get cold fast...eat them right away. The chili is good too. The other sides are nothing special unfortunately...actually they're just like the sides you would expect a cafeteria to have. But the fries! Oh so good!!! It is rather pricey,, but they have rolled out those $4 meals. I haven't been there in awhile, but have a craving to go back. The service is usually decent and if you can get your hands on coupons they can help save from $2 to $5 a meal.

I love Steak N Shake's burgers! But it seems over the years they are getting smaller and smaller. Also, if you do drive through...make sure to check your order when you leave. They ALWAYS seem to get one of the burgers wrong or forget to add something in your order.

I'm rating according to the best meal I've had there. I like the chicken fingers and thin fries with the honey mustard and I like the strawberry milkshake with whipped cream and a cherry on top. It's a great meal because I would want to eat it if it were offered and served to me in bed at night.

I can't deny that I enjoy a steak and shake burger sometimes, but wow every one of these that I go to, the waiters and waitresses are so SLOW. I would actually call it incompetance at times. I stopped going for sit in a while ago because they will literally walk by you and ignore you for infinite amounts of time. The weird part is that it happens at EVERY steak and shake, like it's a paid part of their jobs to do it to you, lol

The worst food in town (Lansing, Mi). Snotty, bickering waitresses, foul mouthed managers, and cold and over priced food make this a place to avoid.

Ok, some good, some bad. Had several bad experience in Jackson, TN. Slow service, silver wear not clean...now the one in Memphis, much, much better. Serves a nice breakfast. The order is like you ordered!

The only thing that these guys have going for them is their hours and their shakes, otherwise they are slower than molasses and the food doesn't show any signs of being better than places that are faster with better service. They also tend to treat their employees like crap, no I have not worked for them, but I have seen it when I am in there, also, just plain lousy.

I always feel as though they are understafed when I come in. I end up waiting 4-5 minutes for a server to even greet the table (unacceptable!). I don't mind waiting if someone stops quickly to say they'll come back, but not so much as eye contact is made. The shakes are good but seem to always take a very long time. I've also seen managers standing around doing nothing while their employees are bogged down to the point of tears on more than 3 or 4 occassions. I hate managers that don't value their employees enough to help them.

The burgers have no flavor! The fries are so small, it's a joke. The meals are also way too expensive ($8.00!!). Only go here for the milkshakes. Those are actually good.

Don't waste your money! A steakburger platter which included a cold hambuger, tiny little fries that look like the ones that you buy in the cans at the store, and a cup of first class prision chili, and a coke= $ 8.50 not including a tip to the moron who took my order. What a piss poor excuse for a dinning place!

Believe me, there are many more burger places that are better in that price range and kind of atmosphere. Wendy's, Burger King, Fuddruckers and Friday's just to name a few.

In my entire years of cooking professionally and enjoying food, I have never, ever had a worse excuse for a burger. This sinks below BK and McD even. It's that bad. Why stop here if there's a Chili's next door!? why stop here if there is anything next door!? Small portions, terrible food, and high price. Sort of like eating at a Disneyworld "restaurant."

Have never been there for other than breakfast, which is quite good so long as you avoid the home fries, or whatever the standard potatoes are. Get the french fries...

We do not have these in the Midwest, when I moved to Florida I think I ate here 3 times a week at first. Slowest drive-thru in history, but their burgers are a step up from B King or McDonalds, and excellent fries !!

Very overpriced and the food is almost always dry and stale. The burgers are extremely overhyped in advertising and it really shows when you actually buy one of the pathetic things. The only good thing going for the place are the milkshakes..they are the real deal and actually taste really good. An extra star for the shakes, but other than that a big bummer...

I would give Steak and Shake an average of about 3.5. Their food is pretty good. Even though I have not had the chance to sample a lot of their dishes. I seem to get there when it is so slow. I end up waiting longer than I like to. But I do really like their shakes. They are nice and creamy and thick. and have a great taste to them. I would give them a higher rating for their shakes alone. We went there last night and ordered four shakes to go and it took forever to get them and it was not even very busy. so I give them a lower rating for their too slow service.

I like this place. I like their smartass commercials. Their burgers are a cut above the average. I agree the portions are small for the price. I like the choice of side dishes. Sometimes a crock of baked beans is preferable to an envelope of fries. Their shakes are about the best you can get these days. Try the lime freeze on a hot summer day. Culver's is still a little better, but the difference is minimal.

I think Steak n Shake is one of the very best!! I love their burgers, shakes and fries (I'll give a 10 for their fries). If you ask for a large fry they give you a large platefull. Yummy :) I think I'm getting hungry now. lol

The food is very tasty, but you really don't get alot for your money. I've had better burgers from burger stands (Whitey's in Sacramento, for instance) and had a MUCH better burger for half the price.

Only good thing are the milkshakes. Every Steak n Shake I've been in is dirty, and horrible service that takes an hour to get your food. It gets points for being open 24 hours.

The orange freeze is magnificent. Table service can be scatterbrained or fantastic - we have more good experiences than bad. One night there was a crowd of drunks swearing in one corner and finally the manager spoke to them, but it took way too long to do something and the weasel kept trying to make the waitress do it. However, 9.95 times out of 10, it's worth the visit.

Steak and Shake is awesome. Even though its not considered fast food, it is by far better in food quality than McDonalds, Burger King, or Wendys. I love their desserts too. And at a cheap rate. They also have friendly servers. Check this place out if you haven't already.

God alimighty, I love this place! The steakburgers are the best and I love the stringy fries. The burgers have a unique flavor and aren't overly greasy like McDonald's or BK. And the shakes are wonderful, nice and thick. I miss Steak N' Shake so much because we don't have them in Nebraska or Iowa. The closest ones are in St. Louis- every time I go back for a visit, I have to go to Steak and Shake!!

I first started going to Steak and Shake with my family when I was very young - back in the days when they still had carhops. In all that time, they have remained consistent in flavor and are still a place you can count on for a very tasty meal. And, even though their competition has grown tremendously over the years, I would still always pick their hamburgers over any of the other chains. The menu has expanded quite a bit also, but the older standard selections can still be found and remain popular. The only thing I don't like about them are their commercials with the smarmy Steak and Shake wait staff. But even these boobs will never drive me away from craving my personal favorite combination of a double steak burger with cheese, mustard, pickle and onion and a side of Chili Three Ways! Num!

Steak and Shake is excellent-if you like waiting two hours for food you didn't order.
