Starcraft was one of the few RTS that I really liked. Good factions, buildings, easy on the system.

Starcraft is an addictive RTS game. The amazing thing is that it has been out over for a decade, and it's still popular. It has mediocre graphics, but people still love it. And this shows something: Starcraft is definitely a masterpiece of a game. The units are balanced well, and the User Map Settings has enabled hundreds of maps to turn in to fun maps. I still enjoy the classic Melee combats between other people though. Great game, recommended. I love it, I can get a bit bored sometimes with SC but never gotten sick of it.

StarCraft (1998) was the first RTS (Real-Time Strategy) game that I played (I'm not a hardcore gamer) and still play on occasion. Personally, I can't see how the game play could be improved (save for new graphics, etc. based on current technology). As other comments have noted, Blizzard did an excellent job at combining balance among the three antagonists (i.e. Terrans (our human cousins and my preference), Zerg and Protoss), an interesting storyline, some well placed video clips, logical campaigns, and challenging extra maps. (Though I've never played a multi-player game, others say that it remain highly competitive to this day.) In addition, the replay value is extremely high (even with the campaigns). For the few who have never experienced StarCraft, it's a "must play" (along with the expansion BroodWar). (Note that the best way to acquire the game is the Battlechest, which has both game discs and a hint book.)

Undeniably the best RTS created by blizzard or anyone else for that matter. A lot of this is do to the way each of the three races balance. Brood War is also probably the most useful expansion for an RTS ever made, in that it didn't suck or screw up the game but added another level of depth. A must buy for anyone who calls himself a PC gamer. If you don't think this game is great then you're probably an FPS nerd. StarCraft is a classic.

If you've ever played the Warcraft games you will love these as well. The fact that people still play this competitively almost 10 years later speaks to the quality of the game. The graphics leav somehting to be desired by today's standards but the game is very well balanced and each race has it's own fun things about playing it. The single player campaign is decent, and I do recommend playing it, but with free online multiplayer, you really should try it out. Just try not to get "zerged".

The only reason I rated this a 4 and not a ten was because it is such an old game. But I still haven't played a RTS better than this one. This is a game that I would still recommend.

AN AWESOME GAME, PERHAPS THE BEST RTS EVE MADE!!! I was a Die Hard Warcraft Fan, a friend had told me about Starcraft, and I bought it, it was cool from what she had said. SHE WASN'T EVEN CLOSE TO DESCRIBING HOW GREAT IT WAS! Even today, even with my Warcraft 3, I still constantently play Starcraft, the campaign, playing against coms, playing against my friends, playing against random individuals, and playing my own custom campaigns. The storyline/campaign is awesome, I loved the Warcraft 2 campaign, the WC 3 campaign, and The WC 1 campaign was alright (kinda boring and quick though) THE STARCRAFT CAMPAIGN THOUGH WAS THE GREATEST!!! I could play the Terran campaign 100 times and not be tired of it. The same goes for the Protoss. The Only low part of the game was the Zerg campaign, which occasionaly got boing. OTHER THAN THE ZERG PART THOUGH THIS GAME IS FLAWLESS!!! ITS EVEN BETTER FOR ITS TIME 1998!!! AND THE ENDING, ITS EPIC!!! The Ending of Warcraft 1 was alright, WC 2 was kinda cool... Read more

Finally tossed my Starcraft game disks in the dumpster, and erased the game from my hard drive. Not because it sucked, but because it had consumed nearly three years of my life. Starcraft is the Chess of the modern era. And it is the one thing in this world that the Koreans totally dominate. Starcraft players in S. Korea (even if they aren't Korean) can achieve fame and wealth if they are gosu (great) gamers.

Starcraft is one of (if not the best) RTS in the history of computer gaming. Hands down. Blizzard despratley needs to make a sequel, though. The battle.net is very good. Mindless nerd entertainment to the core.

I think it's a good game and a chance for each other of us to prove who's the boss in strategy.

StarCraft is a good game to pass the time with. I especially like the option to bring it online and play against others so the game is always changing.

This took the strategy gaming a step up from the limited detail of Red Alert. StarCraft was so exciting for a time. I had a Terran marine action figure. The variety of units you could make still makes it enjoyable. But I realize that it is shallow compared to Age of Empires.

ok game. Not as good as any age of empires. Nerd magnet. Only good on battlenet. Good game to start out with but amusement lasts very short amount of time. Watching mutated insects rip the life out of poor human troopers leads one to believe we arent the greatest species. This game is degrading to mankind.

Starcraft has given me countless hours of fun, let me tell you. I still love the game, even though it's been out for awhile now. The game isn't as fun to play by yourself as it is to play with other people, and Blizzard's Battlenet allows you to do that, if you don't personally know other people who like to play. I can remember being up late many nights while I was living in the dorms at school and my friends and I were on the ethernet. At the time it came out, it was the best strategy game out there. The three races are all cool and it is fun getting to know their strengths and weaknesses. The AI of the computer is pretty decent and presents more of a challenge than it did for Warcraft II. Blizzard is such a great software company. They make sure their games are of excellent quality, and when people do find bugs or have complaints, they fix it almost immediately with patches. And if you play with the BroodWars expansion pack, it gets even better. Now I just have to wait for W... Read more

The best RTS game I have ever played. Its been almost 4 years since its release and you'll still catch me playing it. The races have different strengths but yet equally poweful. Skill and thought is a must have when playing agianst other people over battle.net. Its intence and most importantly, fun.

THE best RTS game EVER to be published. Miraculous and brilliant story; Excellent game play; Three (3) original totally different in units, buildings, building strategies, fighting strategies, pros & cons, themes(...), races; Great cinematics (for its time); Superb Multiplayer (maps, speed, ladder); Full and superior maps & campaigns editor; Wonderful expansion pack (BroodWars) Few bugs; ... Considering the fact that this game was released in the beginning of 1998, I can confidently state that StarCraft [Blizzard Entertainment] has very few flaws. As was mentioned before, the pathfinding is truely a main flaw in the game, although it does not lessen the game's value much. One of the earlier comments stated that "It is surprisingly retro in its unit management scheme..." {by 'umma6039om'}. It's true, but if you consider the fact that the game was realeased three years ago and check out other RTS games of that time, you will see that most of those games have these flaws. Furthermore, it... Read more

A great game but I was expecting more. Lacks the fun factor on single player that I was hoping for. Doesn't deliver as much as it probably could've. Great graphics, audio, and animated movie scenes. The story-line is great.

Hopes were pinned on Starcraft that it would be the next-generation RTS game, not surprising that it came from Blizzard, who have established themselves as one of the greatest computer game producers of all time. Unfortunatly, while Starcraft is a very fun game to play, it is hardly revolutionary. It has some serious flaws which keep it from being truly great. It is surprisingly retro in its unit management scheme: you can only queue up a certain amount of units for production, and once they are created have no kind of behavioural commands to allow you to detirmine how they react in battle. As well, the unit AI, especially in pathfinding, is truly attrocious. Why oh why do player units still run around and bump into each other and the scenery when we tell them to go to a position three screen inches away?! Another AI deficiency is the old "my buddy is getting whacked right next to me but damned if I'M gonna get involved" problem. Besides this, however, the play balancing is top-... Read more
