Thu Sep 09 2010When we were looking for NJ movers for our move from Jersey City to West New York, we (naturally) looked on Yahoo Local and could not believe the sheer volume of five-star reviews for StarCity Moving. We booked them immediately and, I have to say, the Yahoo community did not do us wrong. Justin, Carlos and Ruffino worked their butts off and continually blew us away with what can only be described as "feats of strength." I thought seeing them carry multiple boxes of books on their back was impressive, but when Ruffino and Carlos effortlessly brought our commercial-grade elliptical down the stairs from the bedroom I was thoroughly impressed. I hate moving but having StarCity do all the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) made it 100% better. We were with these guys all day long and I cannot emphasize enough how hard they work and how pleasant they are to be around too. I would book them again, no question when I move in New Jersey next time.

Sat Jun 12 2010This should be your only choice for moving in, around in and out of New Jersey. They came. They saw. They conquered. Conquered our crap, that is. Loads of heavy boxes, clumsy big furniture, racks of loose clothing, an old dinosaur television, miscellaneous loose items - were swiftly taken from a third floor walk-up two floor apartment to a three floor row home on a sweltering June day in under 5 hours. They did so with ease, precision, resourcefulness and at a totally reasonable flat moving quote. They don't mess around, they mean business, they get the job done and look cool while doing it. Let's not forget to mention- they donate 5% of your move to charity.

Sun Feb 14 2010I found Star City through a Google search and the reviews on City Search. I was a bit skeptical about any mover that I had not met or interviewed. Called on Wednesday Night - Moved Friday Morning- Handled my Brooklyn Walk-up with ease - Thanks for a Great Experience - I'll use them again if I move.

Sun Jan 10 2010I hired StarCity Moving to help with an office move in December and I couldn't have been happier with my decision. To begin with, the owner Dean came by to evaluate the move and to give us our estimate. Along with his estimate he provided a great deal of information to help us prepare for the move as well as better understand all that was involved (insurance, etc.). On the day of the move, the team arrived on time and on top of being extremely professional and courteous, they were focused and carefully expedient. They were careful with our things while, at the same time, being mindful of the moving rules and regulations of our building. StarCity Moving was they only company that was willing to provide us with a binding not to exceed flat rate estimate and they stuck by their quote even though our move took longer than they budgeted. Their level of service is impeccable and everyone is really friendly.

Mon Dec 07 2009I truly dislike moving, but StarCity makes it a lot less painful than it can be. I've used them twice so far (both in-city movies) and they were great each time. The first time I moved, I only had 2 movers and it took probably 3.5 hours or so (which was expected). The second time I moved, we had 3 movers, more stuff (moving 2 apartments into 1) and it took a little over 3 hours. (Both times, I only had them move the big items and schlepped smaller items in my car -- which is a huge pain, but I'm sure saved hundreds of dollars). These guys are fast, efficient and take care of your belongings. They bring extra wardrobe boxes, tape, etc. Next time I move, I'm calling them again!

Sat Dec 05 2009Easy, reliable, organized and affordable. I've moved seven times in the last six years. You would think moving would get less stressful but it doesn't. Dean and StarCity Moving made the whole experience much easier. I found StarCity on Google and called them along with three other companies. Dean, the owner, came out and personally looked over what we had to do and gave me the reasonable flat rate estimate. They called to confirm, called when they were on the way, arrived on time, packed up all our stuff, moved us in, didn't break a single thing and didn't go a penny over the original flat rate price. Dean's crew was polite and considerate and did a great job. I'd hire these guys again in a heartbeat.

Thu Dec 03 2009Good movers are extremely hard to find, so please take note: I have nothing but praise for StarCity Moving., and would emphatically recommend their services to anyone seeking a pleasant moving experience. Three men handled our move. All were exceedingly courteous, friendly, and accommodating. They arrived on time and finished early. They moved efficiently, in a calm, well-coordinated manner that is the clear result of good training and solid experience. They competently and carefully moved large and fragile pieces of furniture without any damage whatsoever. They stuck to their binding flat rate estimate--no hidden costs or unpleasant surprises. In fact, the only "surprises" were happy ones: the high quality of service we received every step of the way, from the moment we made our (last minute) inquiry about the availability of services to the thoughtful attention and impressive skill with which the move was conducted. Our move was somewhat complex, with some items going to a two-sto... Read more

Wed Dec 02 2009I rarely give a 5-star review but these guys did a phenomenal job. The mere mention of the word moving makes many a New Yorker want to pop an Advil...or TEN. StarCity Moving took the headaches out of moving by being friendly throughout all stages of the move, on time, efficient and professional. John and Alex moved my stuff and were so fast that I felt I needed to keep up with the". If they can keep a type-A, uptight lawyer happy, they should be able to make you feel at ease as well. Truly a 5-star rating, indeed.

Tue Dec 01 2009StarCity Moving just left my apartment, and I couldn't wait to sit down and express my appreciation for their work. I've hired movers before for local moves, and I've been burned with lazy, careless movers with no investment in their job. I hired StarCity based on the reviews on CitySearch, and I was not let down! These two guys that showed up were polite, careful, and efficient. They paid attention to the box labels and put everything in its proper place, and made sure to not run into any walls, doors, or scrape the floor. I'm so used to having to be a taskmaster with movers, but these guys were so professional that I hardly knew what to do with myself! I actually enjoyed having them in my house instead of feeling awkward. Despite the fact that the move took a bit longer than anticipated, StarCity stuck to its guaranteed flat rate. I cannot recommend this company enough, my move couldn't have gone any smoother.

Mon Nov 30 2009StarCity Moving is absolutely the best moving company I've ever used, and I've moved quite a bit. Rachel, the main person who answers the phone, was personable, friendly, and efficient. She was also flexible about moving dates and helpful about moving tips. Our movers, Matt and Sergey arrived on time, were friendly, easygoing and professional. They were also quick! They brought 4 wardrobes and both loaded and unloaded (hung up) our clothes. Everything was carefully wrapped and they maneuvered their way through narrow hallways with heavy furniture with ease. To top it all off, they hoisted our couch up two flights with such ease! Starcity does, in my mind, offer you the best of both worlds: they have the warm and friendly attitude of a family owned business but, the smooth sailing perks (like wardrobes, packing equipment, and storage) of a larger company. They're unbeatable.

Fri Nov 27 2009Every good review you've read is absolutely true. These guys were incredible. We had a 2 bedroom apartments worth of stuff moved from Stamford to the Upper East Side and they did a fabulous job. They treated our furniture like it was antique. It was so well packed that it took the guys more time to unwrap it all, than to actually move it up the 3 flights of stairs into my new building. Incredible. It took about 3 hours to do the pickup and 2 hours for the drop off. They were early on both occasions and were impeccably polite. Their flat rates If you need a mover and their availability isn't exactly perfect, change your plans. It is so more than worth it.

Fri Nov 27 2009I moved with StarCity in mid-October and was pleased with my experience. They were not the cheapest moving company I got an estimate from, but the favorable reviews here were enough to convince me and I don't regret it. I never felt like I was getting ripped off, and I found them to be very thorough and professional. For example, I was scheduled for three movers but StarCity ended up bringing an extra guy at no extra charge. There also weren't any surprise charges on the bill, and I liked feeling that I didn't have to be on guard the whole time for some kind of scam. They want you to be happy with your move so you'll recommend them to others and use them again, which is the way it should be. The guys worked quickly and efficiently but also cautiously. None of my things were broken or damaged. My computers and TV were all swaddled in blankets and handled carefully. One of my cheaper Ikea bookcases started to come apart and was pretty wobbly by the time we got it into my new place, but ... Read more

Tue Nov 24 2009My wife and I hired StarCity Moving for a recent move from the Upper East Side to Tribeca. They were able to fit us into their schedule on short notice. I really can't say enough about how great these guys were. Full of energy, quick, and trustworthy. We had a very large armoire that needed to go up an angled staircase and they tried every approach and finally got it up there with no damage to walls or the piece. Any other moving company I have had would have just given up and said "It will have to stay downstairs." Several times we offered them drinks or food but they refused to stop and rest until the work was done. If you want to deal with real professionals who treat your stuff as if it was their own and hustle to get the job done, use StarCity Moving. Who thought moving in NYC could be as effortless?

Sat Nov 14 2009Starcity moving is a really well run company. They make you feel like your business means something to them. It seems like they're trying to set themselves apart from the pack. Any of my inquiries were answered within the hour and every person I dealt with was competent and friendly. I had a quite complex move, namely having to move a 3 bedroom apartment from the Upper East Side to Soho. There were roughly 200 boxes, 2 cribs, a sofa, a loveseat, 2 armoires, 5 dressers etc. I was worried that a move of my magnitude would wind up taking 8-10 hours. When I called countless moving companies I received hourly quotes ranging from $120-160/hr. Every mover said the move would take roughly 8-10 hours for 3 workers. To my surprise, when I spoke to Rachel from Starcity I was given a flat rate that was based upon a 6-7 hour timeframe. In other words, starcity committed itself to stand by its flat rate no matter how long the move take. Plus these guys seemed really friendly and helpful. This was ... Read more

Tue Nov 10 2009Quite easily the best moving experience I've ever had. They handled my fragile items with extreme care while, at the same time, managing to complete the move swiftly and flawlessly. The movers had this positive energy about them and were really friendly and accommodating. Their quote was reasonable yet their level of service actually exceeded those of larger companies I've used before (i.e. Flatrate and Oz). My move went as smoothly as I can possibly imagine and I cannot recommend these guys enough! I've already referred them two of my coworkers who were also thoroughly impressed.

Sat Oct 31 2009I cannot thank these guys enough. They were very fast yet careful, friendly yet professional. I had a 2-hour elevator reservation in both buildings and I was afraid that we would miss the 2nd building's reservation due to the movers not being quick enough with loading my stuff. But I was wrong! Even with them wrapping all of my furniture with shrink wrap and moving blankets, they made it to my new building with time to spare! They didn't take any breaks (I normally see movers smoking cigarettes and bumming around). Not these guys- they really hustled. I will be calling them when I move again, for sure.

Sat Oct 24 2009Starcity moving has really got moving down to a science. They hold your hand from start to finish yet don't nickle and dime you like other movers. My fiancee and I conducted two simultaneous moves with this starcity; part of our move going to Montclair, NJ, the other to storage in Jersey City from Manhattan. Things were complicated and complex with what went where, but starcity went above and beyond during the process. Nothing was broken, many of our items being frail and/or antique have now all arrived in excellent condition. The quote process was quick and easy with follow-up from the offices to confirm dates, etc. . I would HIGHLY recommend you ask for Dean, Jason and/or Rufino, or whatever combination of the three you can score. They were professional, friendly, taking their time during the packing process and showing a personal concern for how items were moved and placed in their final locations. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again and fully intend to once we move our items... Read more

Fri Oct 23 2009We had a relatively complicated move (start at my place on the Upper East Side for my stuff, stop at my gf's place in Chelsea for her stuff, and end in Soho to unload), but there were no issues. We even had a relatively strict timeline as the building we were moving into would have charged us $500 if we weren't done by 5pm. Well, they got to my place on time and things went smoothly from there on. Their rate structure was very fair; my girlfriend and I liked have one flat fee inclusive of everything. We were also happy with how they coordinated the certificates of insurance with both of our buildings. I had way more stuff that I expected, but the 3 guys we had were all efficient. They moved quickly yet carefully and made sure to communicate with me all along the way. I also like their teamwork: my gf's place was on a 3rd floor walkup so they just made a chain and had every guy bring stuff down one flight. They got done in 7 hours and despite it taking an hour longer than budget... Read more

Wed Oct 21 2009this review is long overdue as I moved back in August. someone asked me today about who I used when I moved so naturally StarCity Moving popped into my mind. my experience with starcity was superb. first = they were on time. I was anticipating for them to be late so imagine my surprise when they showed up a few minutes before they were even expected. second = they found my new place without any trouble. I tried to get on the road quickly so I could rearrange a couple things before they arrived. imagine my surprise, again, when they pulled up a few minutes after me. third = they didn't try to overcharge me. I've had movers take extra time before or throw in hidden charges, they didn't do any of that. finally = they didn't break or damage anything. all of my belongings, from a $10 target lamp to a vintage chair were handled with care. they even offered suggestions on how to arrange my bookshelves after we had settled the bill. I'm really hoping to move to a more permanent location ... Read more

Wed Oct 14 2009my experience with StarCity moving can be described in 1 word: *amazing*. first off, the price quote was good, and they didn't try to nickel and dime me with hidden fees that other movers had (gas charges, waiting charges, etc etc). when we arrived, these guys were already there and packed everything into the truck w/ lightning speed. in no time, my storage unit was empty. next, they went to my house and emptied everything form there. once again, super fast. and they were so careful w/ everything, wrapped stuff in plastic that needed to be wrapped, put misc small items in boxes to keep them safe, etc. did i mention there were stairs? no problem for these guys. soon, we got to our new place, and they unloaded the truck really fast too... up *two* flights of stairs! the whole thing, even w/ the extra stop at my storage place was done in no time. nothing was broken or scratched up. prices were great. i would definitely use them again!

Mon Oct 12 2009Even though I'm at work and I'm supposed to be working, I have to write a review for these guys! I took a full day off yesterday from work to move. StarCity showed up about 30 min. late but it didn't even bother me once I saw them get to work. I have a decent amount of stuff and figured the move would take somewhere around 8 hours from start to finish. I was amazed when they got it done in 5 hours. I could have technically only taken half a day off work! Thanks to them, I had half a day to enjoy myself :) They worked more efficiently than any other movers I've ever hired. Thank you StarCity for giving me the best move of my life!!!

Fri Oct 09 2009Great experience overall. The guys were efficient, polite, fast. Like most of the reviews said: professional, friendly, on time and did I mention fast? I really liked the teamwork between the movers. They communicated very well and seemed supportive of each other. The cost of the move was under the estimate which was great, the hourly rate is reasonable and was less expensive than other movers I called. Rachel was also very nice, professional and helpful with all of our questions.

Fri Sep 11 2009Moving has never been so easy. Dean and his partner came on a Friday afternoon to the East Village, moved all my things (dresser, bed, desk and so many clothes and random stuff) to S. Williamsburg and I was back in Manhattan dancing at a concert by 9pm. For $300 I had peace of mind and didn't have to ask all my guy friends to break their backs. Dean also astrologically dissected my relationship and he was spot on. The man knows how to handle a move, has a master's from NYU and conversation to boot. StarCity Moving is a really great deal and an overall great experience.

Fri Sep 11 2009I used these guys twice: from Manhattan UES to B'lyn, and from B'lyn to Chelsea. Both my experiences were "perfect", of course keeping in mind what I paid. If you want white glove service and to-the-second punctuality, then pay five-grand and move with the "Padded Wagon"... ....if you want a GREAT DEAL and efficient movers, then you cannot go wrong here. NOTE: when they get to your place, have you stuff ALREADY in boxes...the people who are unprepared cause the whole system to clog up...BOX YOUR STUFF, PEOPLE!
