Thu Jul 15 2010I hate Star Wars! It is one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. The whole movie is so cheesy it's ridiculous. The plot, script, characters, and so forth are absolutely lame and stupid. I remember when the Star Wars movies were rereleased in theaters back in 1997, my parents made me go with them to see it. I sat through the first film for about 30-40 minutes, then got up and walked out. I honestly couldn't sit through another minute of it. I was bored to death! The way I see it, Star Wars is a washed-up childish flick for parents who haven't grown up yet.

Sat Jul 26 2008Great swashbuckling space sci-fi movie. The special effects really set the tone for anything to follow. Really a kid's movie, I enjoyed it very much as an adult taking my children to see it when it was first released. I think this was the best of the series although the special effects improved with each succeeding film.

Mon Apr 14 2008The birth of a totally new and exciting culture. Imagination left free to explore the utmost regions of the galaxy. A mixture of races of different colors, sizes and shapes. A masterpiece of what a simple storyline can become when state of the art special effects are pushed to the limit. The world was never the same after this phenomenon. Loved by young and old and everything in between.

Sun Jan 27 2008This intentionally cheesy franchise has a main villain with crooked eyewear and flashing LED's and panels on his torso that remind one of an Atari game system, a high tech calculator and some sort of children's toy for boys from the late 80's. The pace and directing aren't as good as V and VI but they're still better than the prequels. The acting is the least visceral in IV. In fact, being the first, IV still had a lot of bugs to work out. Alec Guiness had a huge impact and managed to turn Lucas's lead writing into gold.

Sat Jul 28 2007As a child who adored Star Trek, I felt that Star Wars tried to take the humans-in-space concept in a much more conservative and apocalyptic direction. It tried to take my nerd culture into the mainstream. Let's not mince words here. Star Wars is a massively pretentious piece of shit. So pretentious that it presents itself as a "modern myth." It gets no points for its strong special effects either, since the big budget was everything. Star Trek was a hell of a lot funnier and more imaginative even if some of the planets looked like some grade schooler had made them from the styrofoam left over from his solar system project.

Tue Jun 12 2007Star Wars (original and first movie) is absolutely the best sci-fi movie of all times (and i have seen a lot of sci fi movies). It is also parent and kid-friendly. The special effects are what launched so many other movies that followed. It shall always be a classic in my mind !!

Fri May 25 2007UPDATE: Today is May 25. On this date in history, 1977, Star Wars was released to the public. You know the story. It is twenty years after the formation of the Galactic Empire. The empire has finished construction on the Death Star, a weapon capable of destroying a planet. And then.... ORIGINAL COMMENT: This flick is the best of the lot. It establishes the genre. Now I'll admit that the first sequel or two weren't that bad, but overall this was the climax of the entire gaggle of six movies. The last three were indifferent to stinker.

Tue Feb 06 2007It pretty well kicked ass, but I like the original cut where Greedo doesn't even get a shot off. Han shot first!

Wed Sep 13 2006This is my favorite of eposides 4-6 (the only ones that matter). Needless to say but I'm going to say it anyway because I just woke up and my brain is in limbo, this movie is an absolute classic and a must-own.

Wed Sep 13 2006The only film of the bunch that stands up well on its own, the others play entirely as chapters of the serial. It is also the one that captures the original spirit of a swashbukling adventure played out in outer space. The series became bogged down by its serious intentions of epic story telling with the next film. The first one was a great old fashioned Saturday afternoon matinee type movie.

Fri Mar 17 2006This movie (Episode IV) follows the recent "Revenge of The Sith" in the Star Wars saga. It was the first movie and in some respects maybe the best but "Empire" has the edge IMO.

Sat Feb 11 2006When I was a child I thought this movie was just about the coolest thing ever. It had cool laser fights and Darth Vader and space ships and Chewbacca and a princess and a cool magic "force". Seeing it again recently, I was struck by the movie's actual weaknesses. Like the crappy acting, and the shallow plot, and the stupid dialogue. The seventies haircuts are awesome, though.

Thu Jan 19 2006Alright, I'll admit it. I'm a Star Wars geek, although granted I don't have a room in my house dedicated to it and I didn't sleep on the sidewalk to get tickets to the latest three travesties. That being said, I do love Star Wars. Despite mediocre acting and special effects that are now considered laughable, I find myself still enjoying it. Its uncomparable to other sci-fi flicks because it started the genre and is still the hallmark of the genre. Its fun, entertaining and has made George Lucas a ridiculously wealthy man.

Mon Aug 01 2005This movie put us in such awe, how could it not be a 5? most deserving of any 5 on this list is original star wars. The movie that changed sci-fi forever.

Fri May 20 2005Showed the world what special effects were all about.Way ahead of it's time back in 1977.Unforgetable,in a word.

Sun May 01 2005I am a fan of Star Wars since I've seen it in the last five months. Well written, well played, and equally loved. It is the best trilogy ever.

Sat Apr 30 2005Despite its average acting, it's still a wonderful fairy tale for a generation of people who grew up without fairy tales. Had a big impact on my childhood. Empire Strikes Back was my first novel at 9. . .

Wed Apr 13 2005Not my very favoritest of all time. I'm not really a si-fi fan because too much of the time the acting is over done and this seems to ring true about Star Wars too, although I expect to be pummeled for having said such a thing. I will admit Harrison Ford looked mighty nice in these movies, though.

Sun Mar 13 2005I will start by saying What I say here is THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH!! I have seen the original motion picture in the theaters OVER 500 times. There is a witness though I have not seen him since the release of ESB. Anyway.... This is in fact was the GREATEST motion Picture Ever made up until 1981's Empire Strikes Back. Now I am not a huge fan of Ep I, II , III looks like Mr. Lucas is reverting back to yesteryear with Story and tale telling. All those who did not care for it, I cannot fault you. IF you were not 7-12 years old when this movie first came out YOU have truly missed a great ride. Unfortunately NOW you are stuck with the likes of JAR JAR Binks.... You get the picture though...

Sun Feb 27 2005I really really tried to like this movie. But I didn't. My partner is so into Star Wars and I wanted to share that passion. But I just can't seem to understand the fascination. The effects were nice for that time, the acting was acceptable but that's it. I think not watching it when I was a child plays into the fact, that I don't care for this movie.

Mon Feb 21 2005The best in the series and the best movie ever! When you see the words STAR WARS at the beginning and you hear that music than you know your watching a classic. This movie is my favorite movie of all time because it had loads of wonderful special effects, excellent humor, colorful characters and an intriging story that always will be rewatchable. If you don't like this movie then I have pity on you!

Wed Feb 16 2005Not as good as Empire strikes back, but still entertaining. See my comments in the Empire Strikes back about their New Age pushing crap.

Tue Aug 24 2004Fun to watch, and more in-depth and story-based than a lot of other sci-fi flicks. A solid classic.

Sun Jul 11 2004As a kid I saw it 12 times, 3 times back to back (we kept sneaking back in). As an adult I learned about the archetypal symbolism of the characters, the story, and the settings; how the leading archetypal psychologist, Joseph Campbell contributed to the screenplay, and then Star Wars took on new meaning for me. Star Wars is a hero's myth, updated for our time, it speaks to us because the characters represent aspects in all of our psyches. Another great thing about Star Wars, the advancement of special effects through Industrial Light and Magic. This film broke new ground, is a classic, and will most likely be popular from now on, like Shakespear.

Fri May 28 2004An incredible science-fiction adventure. This movie has everything: good defeating evil, humorous dialogue, great characters, good special effects and more. A classic.

Sun Apr 18 2004The second best of the Star Wars trilogy. The characters were well-represented in Mark Hamill, Harrisson Ford and Carrie Fisher and the scenery and effects were excellent for their time. It's only flaw is the beginning, which is a little tedious.

Wed Mar 17 2004A classic film. A must see.

Tue Feb 17 2004I would like to strangle my parents for making me watch this as much as I'd like to strangle my friends for forcing me to watch the NEW ones (even if they did pay). You sit through these Staar Wars movie, you loose interest, you think about anything but the movie, trying not to fall asleep.

Thu Jan 22 2004Great Movie, I liked how C3PO and R2D2 walk the desert on the planet for a good quarter of the movie, it gives you a chance to understand and get to know them and there humor better for later on in the movies. It makes you think a little bit, it is simple in parts, but still very complete and perfect.

Mon Jan 19 2004Ahh. Arn't the originals always the best? I love all the Star Wars movies. And, George Lucas is brillient, simply brillient! I love how he uses space exploration in his movies, kind of like a Star Trek thing. Really cool actually.
