Wed Mar 02 2011BEST FISH FRY EVER !!!!! If you hang around New Orleans after Mardi Gras be sure to get yourself some ashes on Ash Wednesday and then some fish on Friday. It is a christian obligation to abstain from red meat during the Lenten Season and like most southern towns New Orleans is all FISH on Fridays. I have dined at some of the best seafood spots in New Orleans (from GW Fins to Dragos) but when it comes down to frying for a cause nothing beats a wholesome New Orleans church fish fry. Don't get me wrong.. I love white tableclothe and real silver but who can argue with going to eat, conversing with good people and supporting HIM at the same time. There's alot of good places to get your fish but my favorite is a little known place named ST LUKES CHURCH located at 1222 North Dorgenois St. It's just off the corner of culturally rich Esplanade Avenue and Broad St, right behind John McDonough School or "John MacK" as the locals say. Wed Feb 25 2009St Luke's has that familiar feeling of being at a family reunion; You don't everybody but you know you have a bond. The choir is very good and the service not too stuffy. You'll feel at home right away
