I think stjohns is okay. But seriously it gets dark outside at like 5pm and theres so much slush on the ground outside. This city is too big and it takes forever to get from one side of town to another, nothing is close. This is an old city with old people. The only things I really like about stjohns is the ocean views from signal hill and outter cove and the harbour. Its cool that am on an island, lol in the middle of the ocean. Things here are expensive, more than the mainland though. Vedgetables and fruit are more expensive and you usually have to pick out the rotten parts out of apples lol. And oh george street is okay, but its really old and dirty downtown. whatever floats your boat lol

I lived here for five years and it's the best and worst. Pros: Friendly people, great authentic Anglo-Irish culture and music, beautiful scenery, good university. Cons: Rather high prices, infamously bad weather. There is also a huge rivalry between "townies" and "baymen" from the smaller fishing villages. The townies tend to be rather arrogant, but I still have good baymen friends from the outport villages. If you do go, get out of St. John's at least once and travel around the island a little.

This is one of the meccas of beauty and a damn good place for some GENUINE celtic influenced liver pickling. What a great town...and well worth the 3 hour flight from Newark. Cholesterol time bombs are a plenty here too. I ate smoked cod fish-n-chips fried in beef fat. McDonalds used to do it...when their fries were tasty...now i know why.

Hey Hot_rodgers's you Ignorant Dumba$ NewfYour post is the most ingnorant one here. I've lived in both the US and NF, and I can personally refute every argument you made.I lived in the states for 37 years and never had one crime committed against me. I was here for less than six months before my vehicle was broken into.As far as the natural disasters, which you ignorant newfs think happen on a daily basis to everyone in the US, I much rather have a one or two hurricane in a lifetime rather that the miserable annual natural disaster you idiots call winter. The people are the most closed minded, petty, obsessive/compulsive, fake bunch of misinformed brainwashed lemmings Ive ever met.I love it when you "by's" get on your high horse and start saying how much better NF is to the US, Its the only way you idiots deluded yourselves into staying in this hell on earth.Go live somewhere else before you start glorifying this shithole.

Interesting fact - usrick and H[]T_Rogers are brothers.I was in St.John's and Newfoundland for a week  a couple of summers ago and my hosts were excellent, as was the hospitality of the entire town.  The weather was even great.  Far and away, it was the best Canada Day party I've ever attended as well.

This is the start of a story that should span about 2 years. In February i was accepted as a Cuso Cooperant for a project in Iquitos, Peru. After 4 months of delays (all part of the fun of process) I am on my way. And hey, it is never a bad thing (for me) to have to spend extra time in the lovely St. John's. It all worked out for the best in the end. To give an over view of what it means (to me) to be a Cuso cooperant I should say something about this organization. Cuso, a Canadian NGO, has existed and maintained itself through growing with the world since its inception in 1961. Today it works to partner people and organizations which see eye to eye on social development issues. The program which I have been granted is to work with a Peruvian NGO in developing an education program for youth, using theatre techniques and practices. I would like to encourage any and all to visit the Cuso website....I did, I applied, I never thought my experience would get me here....but hey did. C... Read more

More fun to be had here than in most cities twenty times the size. Wide open, with singing and dancing, drinking and carrying on til all hours. Some of the most enjoyable people in the world in one of the most isolated large settlements thereon. On the other hand, it's small, cold and foggy and not particularly pretty.

St. Johns is a beautiful place to visit. Friendly people and lots to do, just like other parts of Newfoundland.

I enjoy St. John's. But, you won't truely enjoy it unless you've been to George Street. If you never been to George Street, then St. John's is just another town, but, plain and simple, George Street rocks!

St-John's is such a depressing city! It's foggy almost all the time. The sun rarely shines, the winters are dreadful, it's poor, the people are cold. It is BO-RING! All there is to do is...um...curling and fishing?? The city is just going to keep on going down, down, down....

Come on U.S citizens listen up to what DickDirk has to say! He is a very smart individual who knows what he is talking about. America makes me sick! You guys know absolutley nothing about us except for the fact that you know were in North America...or do you? However good television do come from the U.S. Why should we know so much about you guys. Frankly I wish we didn't because then I wouldn't know how much you Americans are pricks! I mean each and every one of you Americans are just so arrogant and egotistic. For what reason...your country sucks. peolple are being killed every day from guns, knives, bombs etc. The reason Canada is better than the U.S is because we are nicer people who are far more smarter than Americans. How could you Americans possible beleive that we live in igloos. We don't live that far away from you guys you know. So go ahead and mark down how unhelpful this comment is and why don't you go write something stupid in my inbox because thats all you can write anyway... Read more

The people of St. John's are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The town is definately a party town with nightclubs open to all hours and the scenery is just fabulous!
