Spring Street Cafe

The Spring Street Cafe is a wonderful place to eat. They have delicious Irish breakfasts, as well as terrific omelettes, pancakes, etc. Their lunches and soups are yummy, too. All soup is homemade, as are the muffins. It closes at 3:00, and then reopens at 4:30. You can get breakfast until 3:00, and only dinner after 4:30. They also serve wine and beer. It's a place that feels like home. One particular Irish waitress is so nice, and we often go there just to see her. Some famous people have eaten there, too. Ayla & Arianna Brown were in there last week. Christopher Knight (who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch, was in there some months ago while in town). Many of the Fox News reporters also eat in there occasionally. Overall, it's a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

I have visited this cafe many times because it is a locally owned business. Never Again. I took my eldlerly father who is recovering from cancer while his car was being serviced up the street. The waitress was unfriendly, unpatient with the fact that my father was hard of hearing (she is Irish with wavy hair). She rushed over with our food, and before we could ask for something, took off without barley looking at us. My fathers toast and homefries were cold-probably because they didnt have the heat turned on that day. We had to eat with our coats on, it was so chilly. I brought the toast to the counter and asked for a new serving, and she bit my head off. To make matters worse, I asked about the bill, because it was incorrect and she yelled at me. My father called back later in the day to ask for the owner, and was told she not there. He then asked for her name, she told him to go to hell. I considered my first visit dirty when I had to ask for clean utensils. I decided to give the cafe the benefit of the doubt. But, on the second visit after 30 minutes I asked the head waitress if I'd be served soon. (my coffee cup was long empty) Several customers had come in after me and were finishing their breakfast. I asked the head waitress when I could expect to be served. Ten minutes later, still no food. When I asked again I was told possibly there was a mix-up in the orders. I told her I couldn't wait any longer, this was an unfortunately bad start to my day, and that I thought the coffee should be complimentary. She called me "white trash".!!!!!! Hopefully, several other customers heard her remark!!

Dissapointed I went to the restruant to have a simple breakfast at 14.05 we ordered and at 14.40, 5 cups of coffee later we asked where was our order. We were told it will be out in five minutes and sorry for the delay as he was not sure if the kitchen got it. 7 minutes later my wife got the wrong order and instead of a "Irish Breakfast" I got a turkey sub with chips????? then the waitress arrives again and started to re-write the order 50 minutes later. Every one was in amazment how this happened,,,,all but the non english speaking kitchen staff. I would NOT RECOMEND" this as a place to go and enjoy a stress free meal of any time unless you have many hours to spare. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Ireland gone Italian is the theme @ Spring. Adequate choices of perfectly prepared homestyle Italian served Irish-style by gruff, efficient waiters. No ambiance but the joint is clean, a little tight and loud with friendly chatter. The owners cater to the locals for breakfast, if you're not a regular don't get bent out of shape, your turn will come. Lunch is a free for all but dinners are reserved mostly for the Italian side of County Kerry. Don't venture into the No End when this gem is right in the neighborhood. Fresh ingredients, sometimes fresh service but always freshly prepared for reasonable pricing. Nice soups and even an occasional good cut of fish, Irish style- meaning fresh, non-greasy and plentiful. Make friends, become a regular, the food will turn you into a foodie. If you can, wear green and orange, the service goes up from there.

If you are looking for a fun atmosphere and authentic Italian cuisine, this is the place to go. Staff is very friendly and personable. Price...

Five of us met here recently on the recommendation of relatives who know good food and wine. We were not disappointed! The menu was not huge, but broad and varied enough to tempt us each with several choices. We each ordered a different entree, including two from the daily specials. Everyone was happy with his meal. The servings sizes were generous, not skimpy like so many of the North End higher priced restaurants. My veal dish was as good as I've had anywhere, with the bonus of leftovers to savor yet again. Meg, our server, was very attentive and accommodating. The atmosphere, while not white tablecloth, is new, modern, and clean. Easy to reach and easy to park, I'm looking forward to our next visit!

That is how I felt when I went back to this restaurant in West Roxbury. My husband and I go to this restaurant on occasion, except this sunday, I went on my own. Two parties were seated before me, so I suggested that I would take a booth and not have to wait for the bar or a two top, both of which were allocated to parties who got in after me. I left the restaurant, when I called to speak to a manager, --Beth her first focus was that I was black and would not listen to me. I asked for the name of owner and she hung up and kept the phone off the hook so i was not able to reach anyone. My suggestion for any diners, 1. Do not go there if you are black. I felt treated like a second class citizen 2. To the restaurant, if you do not seat single people at tables, put up a sign. 3. I feel so insulted that the manager would not explain why I was ignored, not seated and why she would not tell me who the owner was. 4. In Short Located on one of West Roxbury's busiest intersections, the Spring St. Café lures locals with its affordable menu of Italian comfort faves. Huge portions of chicken marsala and veal parm beckon take-home boxes, even more so when diners start off with an order of sautéed calamari or broccoli rabe. Gruff waitresses keep bread baskets and water glasses filled. Casually-dressed diners keep an eye on the Sox game, shown on the TV behind the tiny bar.

I lived in Boston and went through to Dedham plenty of times. Every time I passed this little restuarant I always thought it was some sort of diner and therefore never went in. Well after YEARS of ignorance I actually went in because I figured I could eat some comfort food with my family...well...what a surprise. This cafe should be in the midst of the restaurants in the North End. Great food, perfect pricing and amazing portions. My father who happens to be the most critical of diners thought this was a true gem of a restaurant. Of course it's definitely a masked diamond but the food is impeccable and the atmosphere is cozy and reminds me of the seaside restaurants on the cape. No more going to the North End for food I can get close by. I'll definitely be back..soon. Try the Gnocchi on Spring Street...yummmm

Spring St Cafe has arguably the best italian meals in the west roxbury/dedham area; unfortunately Citysearch keeps referring to it as a coffee shop-absolutely no way , my friends! This is probably the most underrated italian resaurant in Greater Boston. Granted it's not the fanciest place to eat, but the food is very, very well done (and you can dine without wearing a suit!) If you love calamari, you will not be dissapointed with the appetizer...
