Depends on the spider and the situation. Most spiders around here in the NE US are relatively harmless. However, I would probably crap myself if I woke up and this thing was wandering on my chest:

I'm not scared of them in the least, but walking into a spider web at face height in the dark is not much fun.

I was about to give it one star, but it felt like something was moving in my shorts and I freaked right out. I checked, no spiders, but I AM quite afraid that they turn me on.

I guess they do help keep the insect population in rural/urban areas down some-what, but it still scares the shit out of me when I come across one unexpectedly.

Spiders eat other bugs, including harmful mosquitos, so yeah, that's pretty damn helpful. They also help pollinate plants, Recycle dead trees and animals, and feed birds fish and small mammals. Also they spin webs, some are especially pretty after a Rain shower. My Bullshit meter is going off on this one, but it may be good for a Laugh:

I keep a safe distance from them. I have heard how nasty spider bites can be. a relative of mine got a spider bite on her rear end. it ended up with an awful swelling and infection. she had to have two surgeries to correct the damage. i have seen arms swelled right up from a spider bite. i have known others who had to see doctors due to awful spider bites. so I will leave them alone and they can leave me alone.

The average American eats 8 spiders a year in their sleep. So what's the reason for being scared of them?

I find them fascinating. Not that I want one crawling on me, but I’m not afraid of it.

I thought my fear of spiders was irrational and hopelessly girly before I met my friend, who survived an encounter with a brown recluse. He has a prominent battle scar from the tissue necrosis that ensued after a brown recluse bite. Could have been worse, as these bites can be deadly, but suffice to say I'm glad he's okay and that these spiders don't live in California.

To a degree. There is only one kind of spider I'm not afraid of at all. Black Widows.

Not if you learn about them and keep your home free of invitation to the only North American spider capable of maiming you: the brown recluse.

Not scared at all of any spiders you can get in the United Kingdom and I'd quite willingly pick any of them up. When it comes to some of the bigger spiders you get abroad I may think twice before picking one up. If I saw a black widow or anything like that I wouldn't be scared of it, I would respect it however and understand that I shouldn't get too close - however knowing me I would see how close I could safely get so I could take a photograph I imagine. So I think there would be some degree of fear there of whether I'm getting close enough to be bitten, etc.

There are 75 species of spider in North America. Two of them pose a serious threat to humans. 73 do not. Most spiders do not bite aggressively, but defensively when they have no other options. I am several hundred times larger than they are and can easily kill them by stepping on them. Nevertheless, I run from the room when ever I see one. These things scare the shit out of me.

Some of these amazing creatures deserve respect, for sure. But, I had come to terms with spiders...to the point that their presence was just fine with me...even if they crawled over me...UNTIL Stark told me that they drink out of our mouths at night. Now I sleep in a HazMat suit...

I seem to have a pathological fear of spiders.  I know they're small and only a tiny percentage of them are poisonous but I just can't help it.  No matter how much I am frustrated by my fear of the evil little things, it's something I've never been able to get over.  I can get chills even thinking about the creepy little bastards.  logical?  nope.  terrifying anyway?   ohh yeah.  stupid creepy little things with many legs they are.

Not a fan of spiders, but I really only react to them when I am surprised to find one on me.  I can clean them out and have a healthy respect for them, but if I feel that crawling on my arm and see some gargantuan 6 legged monstrosity...

The friendly household spider desires only to spin its webs in peace. If you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Furthermore, they'll catch flies and sometimes wasps for you as well.

Okay...I know they help to keep mosquitoes and other irritating bugs out of my home but that's what I have Raid for; I don't need spiders crawling God knows where and on what all over the house laying eggs. Outside it's another story entirely because it is their natural home and they can be interesting to observe.
