I'm writing this review on behalf of my friend who is too kind to write a spiteful review of an organization that purports to help animals. This woman does not live in New Orleans, but visits frequently and rescues animals, trapping/neutering and spaying ferals on each visit. On three separate occasions, she has attempted to utilize SAF in her efforts, only to be turned away each time. Yesterday, she brought three kittens there on her way to the airport. She was told they wouldn't accept them. She offered a donation to cover the cost of their care. When the kittens were refused shelter, she walked out, leaving the kittens there, feeling horrible about it, but at least feeling they were in safe hands. This was her last desperate attempt at leaving these kittens someplace safe on her way out of town, and this was only done after also attempting to donate a significant amount to SAF. Ann and Brian (of whom I've heard many horror stories) were horribly rude to her (except for when ... Read more

SAF was recommend to me by friends who couldn't believe how inexpensive they were and I've now recommended it to other people who are as impressed as I am. I've been to both of the vets who are excellent. The staff was very polite (I got to witness their handling of a local nut who accused them of being liars because they're supposed to be non-profit). No, they're not free, Mr. Degenerate New Orleans Cretin, but they are non-profit and they are the cheapest clinic in town. Now that I'm in New Jersey I'm having a hard time finding anything close to that level of animal care at the prices they offer. Consider yourselves lucky, New Orleans.

I brought my kitten to get her taken care of and after they told me that it will cost me $109.00 which I PAID right then and there, they told me to come back at 12 noon to pick her up. I showed up at noon and the lady at the front desk (Ann) told me I could not have my kitten back. She then told me that she didn't think I took care of my cat. That's why I brought her to a SECOND vet in the first place. I told her I wanted my cat back and she called the police and then FORCED me to sign my baby over. I probably feed every cat in the Uptown area out of my pocket and out the kindness of my heart....Now why would I NOT take care of MY kitten and I take care of everyone elses???? I'm very unhappy with this place and I don't think anyone should have their "child" taken away. Those people are so rude and heartless!! I can not sleep now, wondering what is going to happen to my kitten. John. If anyone can suggest any help or ideas please feel free to comment.

I would not take my pet anywhere else for health care. Both doctors and office staff are the most caring, knowledgable, and friendly I have experienced during the 6 years of my pet's life. I would trust NO ONE else with my dog. I have complete trust and faith in these people and have had no experience to make me feel otherwise. I can tell that caring for animals is not just a job for this staff, but a true commitment.

Dear viewer, I recently moved to New Orleans in late July so as a pet owner I had trials and errors trying to figure out which animal hospital might provide MORE than adequate care. For me it isn't about the $cost of services but about the education and the sincere care my dog should be entitled to receive. At the time I had one gorgeous Caucasian Ovtcharka and one maine coon cat. They had been in contact with flees from the courtyard of this fancy overly priced place I rent from. I had given them the normal dosage of anti flee preventatives but it did not work properly and I brought my mountain dog in to see the doctor so he in a very firm and strict voice encouraged me to hire an exterminator to spray all areas of this home and let the pets stay at that facility till the toxic spraying should go away. After this advice one month later my dog had deteriorated even more , same skin condition and he was biting holes in his fur and losing weight even though I fed him four large ... Read more

I took my eight-year-old Corgi here for the first time today. I had a good experience overall. We didn't have to wait too long to be seen. The have a separate entrance for dogs and cats, which I think is *genius*. Dr. Lamarsh really impressed me. He is obviously very smart and handled my baby very well. He had to give her a shot and clip her nails, neither of which she enjoys, but he was a pro. He asked a lot of questions about her eating, drinking, eliminating, etc., and really seemed to care about my dog. The tech was also very nice and helped put my dog at ease. I've never been financially responsible for another animal so I'm not exactly sure how SAF compares price-wise. It was $25 for the visit, then $25 for the heartworm test, and another $70 for six months of heartworm prevention which all sounded about right. $8.50 for nail trim is a bargain compared to what we go through trying to do it at home! We had to get a couple more meds for a skin allergy that she has de... Read more

I have a very difficult animal to care for, as he has many allergies, skin infections, joint problems etc. I started taking him here on the recommendation of a friend, and although they never managed to fix his problems, no one ever has, so I do not hold that against them. I was generally happy with their services until this Thanksgiving when I decided to board him for 6 nights. He has been boarded several other places before and has never had any problems, but I decided to board him at his vet just so that if something did happen, he would have care right away. When he was returned to me, his snout was raw, red and scabbed (when he gets stressed, he tends to bash his head against walls) and was covered in urine, from head to toe. I put him in my tub and hosed him from the neck down to his tail, and yellow just flowed off of him, to the point that I had to shampoo him twice. In addition to all this, I discovered three open sores on his legs, and he was being extremely skiddish, falli... Read more

I just want to tell everyone out there that the previous poster, aimeelula is seriously misinformed. I started using this clinic for ferals, because their location was convenient to where I was trapping. I was so impressed with the entire staff, and their commitment to all animals, owned and stray alike, that I am currently using them for my own pets as well. I have brought in numerous ferals that were injured and needed medical care beyond just their spay/neuter, and they were the only clinic willing to work with me and not drain my bank account. I know for a fact that they do not get reimbursed by the state. They participate in the LASPCA voucher program. Any clinic that participates in this program gets reimbursed by the SPCA for the spays and neuters ONLY!! Yes, they may seem rushed at times, but walk in there in the morning when they are checking in 50 feral cats, and tell me if you would not feel rushed. I can tell you that the medical care is outstanding and not rushed a... Read more

This is an establishment with the potential of greatness, but they totally miss the mark. I started going there because they have a program with the state where they neuter/spay stray cats for $10, this includes all they're shots and a flea bath. This makes it very accessible for people to help with the over populating community of feral kitties. BUT they are the rudest people I've ever met. They're are disorganized, the establishment is unclean, and they are beyond incompetent. Besides being "cheap", they will over charge you for all other products. And in regard to the $10 program, they aren't doing anyone a favor, they are being reimbursed by the state, but they will treat you as if they are. For a time I was hearing horrible stories about them, but I kept defending them, saying how hard it must be to see sick homeless animals day in and day out - give them a break - they're under staffed and over worked. But then I started seeing that they really did treated people poorly, inc... Read more

Lamarsh likes to push uneccessary procedures on you and makes you feel bad if you dont do it. Brian at the desk is rude and thinks that if you aren't buying EVERYTHING from them (hearworm, frontline) then you are a lowlife. Yes, they are cheap, but I will gladly pay more somewhere else. There record-keeping is horrible - internet orders for meds will routinely be delayed if SAF needs to approve of it. All in all, horrible people and service. Missy Jackson was great when we first started going there, but lately she's been pretty sloppy in handling her staff and making sure records are available to online pharmacies. Good bye, SAF and good riddance!
