Sat Sep 12 2009Purchased two KV-36XBR units. One went back to the store for repair under warranty six times. The problem was the picture would go out and a blinking standby light. Sony never fixed this unit. Terrible customer service. I had to take the retailer to small claims court to get this unit replaced under thier extended warranty. The second unit also started the same thing. It was out of factory/store warranty when it started having problems.I took it to a repair shop and it seems to be working good for the last year. The replacement tv (from the first one) is now doing the same thing and it is out of warranty. So it went to the shop for repair yesterday. Three units, all with the same problem. I will never buy another sony product again!

Fri Sep 26 2008TV picture was always substandard on the default video mode (the one you need for the VCR). Then after just a couple of years the TV just blacked out. I now regret buying a large TV. I'm not going to pay several hundred dollars to repair it, but it will be difficult to move, too.

Thu May 08 2008There should be a recall! This is absurd. The playoffs are on! All I get is a blinking stand-by light that nobody can seem to walk me through fixing it. Thank God I bought the extended warranty but it's going to take 8 days for them to come out. Does anybody know how to fix it? If I could pick the 200 pound piece of $&@% up I'd smash it on the ground!!!

Tue Apr 01 2008TV lasted 2 years and then the standby light started blinking and there was no more picture or audio. What a waste.

Wed Oct 17 2007My KP46WS520 is just junk. Lousy components, poorly made, and then they have the nerve to NOT SUPPORT them for parts, but to offer to repair them if sent to Sony, and at a higher price compared to replacing the part, which is no longer made. During the 34 months I had the set, before it only blinked 9 times, I was away 18 of those months, and the tv was in the bedroom and rarely watched more than 1 hour a day. Sony used to be the best, NOT ANY MORE ! ! ! Just junk, and a bad attitude. We need to show these companies that they can be hurt badly by treating the customer this way. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING SONY ! ! !

Fri Aug 19 2005Purchased a Sony KV series set and was extremely happy for the first two years. That was until I lost the picture and sound and saw the blinking red standby light. My friends (knowledgable) warned me that Sony quality had slipped. Next time I'll listen.

Thu Feb 03 2005I have a Sony Wega 36 inch that I parched several years ago for big bucks, $2300.00 in less then a year it stopped working displaying only a blinking red standby light. Sony customer support was a long lesson on being put on hold and ultimately no help at all. I paid a service tech 150.00 to look at it and he wanted $500.00 to try to fix it with no guarantees. The set started working on its own. twice since then it has crapped out only to eventually begin working on its own again several days later. A $2300.00 TV should work dependably long then 2 or 3 years and any company charging that kind of money for a TV should stand behind it and not stone wall their customers. Sony is definitely aware of this problem but instead chooses to ignore it and frustrate their loyal customers. WEGAs affected should be recalled and fixed, refunded or replaced if Sony wants to continue to stand for quality and dependability. My WEGA is currently blinking standby and I have no idea when it might... Read more

Thu Feb 03 2005I purchased a Sony Wega KV-32FS320 33 days ago (Dec. 27, 2004). and now I have a blinking red light & no picture!!! This seems to be an ongoing problem for Sony. It's unfortunate but, then too we purchased a DVD player from Sony & we had the same problem it crapped out on us in no time. Oh well lesson learned - NO MORE SONY!

Fri Apr 30 2004I have a SONY WEGA 32 and it has a noticable green spot in the upper left hand corner. It was degaussed once and the spot returned. The TV is out of warranty and for the over $1,000.00 I spent 3 yrs ago I thought that perhaps the money was worth it. It was not. As a lawyre I suggest a possible class action as I am sure SONY was aware of the defectives in this unit and similar units. I just purchased a similar sized JVC with the same specs. Love it, advice: DITCH SONY---BUY JVC.

Sat Feb 21 2004As to the quality of vcr nowdays...they are mostly made of plastic inside. If you have an old one it's probably worth it to fix it...provided you don't spend more than $50.00. New ones are lucky to last 6mo--2yr. and then you throw them away.

Sat May 03 2003Excellent picture, adequate sound, but far too heavy for use in the average home - especially if it needs to be moved up or down stairs.

Fri Dec 06 2002I have a KV-36FS13 that I bought in July 2001. The piture is great but just this week the red standby/timer light stated blinking and the piture went blank but the audio is still working. Ther is a 96 dollar charge from sears to just look at the sony!! I still have to pay for parts and labor. The piture tube is covered for two years. There is no mention of the standby light in the manual so i have no idea what the problem could be. Great TV when it works, but for the money it should last longer than this.

Thu Feb 08 2001Yes, Sony has a problem with its tuner and IF block on all of there TV's. The problem (Made in Malasas, and not in Japan),I hate to say it but Sony products are not made in Japan anyloner. Yes the first and sometime second shipment come from Japan and are of the highest quailty. Howevery, all other products are build in China/Mexico/Mylasa and other countries that do not take any pride in there work or the product or the Sony name!!!!

Tue Dec 26 2000Beware of this TV!! Don't get me wrong, the picture is great and flat screen is great too. I really liked the way DVDs looked on this TV. Menus are rich, you can tweak a lot. Sound quality is not all that great, but is OK. HOWEVER, this TV is of V*E*R*Y poor quality. Sony evidently does not care about quality any more. I mean - I go through 4 TVs in total within 30 days??? Within a month, I went through 3 Sony Wegas, as I had to take them back because of pink stripes and then lastly (just today) because the right bottom corner turned green. I have no speakers around my TV, and they tried to degauss it, and it was still green. This happened on the 29th day since I bought the TV - so I replaced it with a JVC. Calling Sony customer service? Good luck... after endless navigation through phone menus, you get a busy signal. And I tried more than once too... No more Sony - no thanks. Dragging this thing to the store for 3 times, exchanging it every time... I did not need this any more. I... Read more

Tue Nov 07 2000I think the TV is good. It is a very good size. The clarity and sound is nice. Personally, I think there are better televisions than the Sony KV Series out there in the market.

Wed Oct 04 2000Buying a Sony television was the worst purchasing mistake that I have ever made, and I owned a Chrysler K-Car. Before you entertain the slightest notion of purchasing a television from Sony, make one simple call to the Sony "Direct Response Center" at 1800-222-SONY(7669). At the prompts press 0 then press 4 then press 1 then press 2. At this point you are supposed to be connected to someone, anyone, who will help you with your problem. However, all you will get for your patience and number punching will be a busy signal, which is apparently a metaphor for the entire corporate response to Sony's defective merchandise. Listen to how Sony treated this valued customer. I purchased the KV-35V68 in February of 2000. I noticed that every now and again the T.V. replaced the regular programming with uninterrupted snow. The problem would eventually resolve itself so I assumed that I had simply pressed the wrong button on the keypad. By August of 2000 the condition became permanent and the T.V. ... Read more

Fri Jul 14 2000Sony KV is good. The sound is excellent and the picture is clear. The warranty is 3 years, and repairs are rare.

Tue Jul 11 2000In the past 15 years, I have purchased two Sony televisions. Both have gone bad shortly after the one year warranty expired.

Thu Jun 15 2000Can't say enough good things about the Sony...I only have cable, but the picture quality is excellent. Never a problem, so I can't rave about their service!

Thu Jun 15 2000I bought a 27" Sony KV Series TV almost exactly a year ago, and I've been very happy with it. The picture quality, like all Sony TVs, is excellent. And the speakers, placed stereo-style on either side of the screen, produce consistently good sound. I have surround sound speakers hooked up to this TV, and sometimes watching a movie at home is a better experience than going to the theater. My only complaint is that the TV I owned before the Sony was a Sharp 27J Series, and that set was almost as good for about $150 less. So in my opinion there's no question you're going to get good quality with the Sony KV Series, but you might be almost as well off buying a less expensive TV.

Thu Jun 15 2000Simply the best value for your dollar. The picture is noticably clearer than in brands such as Quasar, Sharp, and Philips, and the Sony KV will not wear out on you. Trinitron televisions revolutionized the television business, and for good reason. They are simply superior products. If you are serious about your television, you should stick with the experts, and the people at Sony are the experts.

Wed Apr 26 2000We just recently bought the Sony 27" Wega and absolutely love it!! The price is a little high, but we found a cheap one on-line and a local store matched the price. DVD and Sattelite pictures are awesome!! The cable picture is really good, too(if your cable is good). Definitely worth the money!!

Tue Jan 11 2000EXCELLENT..I highly recommend Sony..I have never had a problem, great picture, color etc..Sure, you could get the same size TV for less money, but my Sony has lasted forever..and I feel confident in the company that they would take care of any problem.

Fri Dec 17 1999Sony's new KV series (the 'Wega' models) are awesome. I'm waiting for hdtv before I buy a new set (I know, I may be waiting a while), but a good friend has one of these, and I must say, the picture quality is superb.
