Tue Sep 01 2009Very effective; very quiet; very easy to use: very worthwhile. Caveat...It has been in use for just a month. If it continues its excellent performance it will have been a very good purchase.

Sun Aug 30 2009I recently moved into an apartment that is semi-below grade, meaning it's in a basement with a walkout exit. The existing dehumidifier worked well but was so loud that I can only describe it as noise pollution. I have a piano and need to keep the humidity between 40-50%, and I wanted a dehumidifier that will allow me to hear the piano when I play it. I ordered the Soleus with caution because of all the bad reviews. Mine arrived without a "guard" in the water tray. It also didn't work -- I ran it for a day and no water was extracted from the air. I called the customer service number and was surprised to speak to someone immediately considering some of the reviews I've read. The rep suggested I run it on continuous cycle at "quiet" for 24 hours and then try other settings, and assured me that they no longer shipped "gaurds" -- the documentation that came with the unit was just old. His suggestion worked, but the humidistat setting (which toggles the compressor on if the humidit... Read more

Sun Aug 16 2009I bought this dehumidifier based in large part on the favorable reviews. But I now realize that what is important to me is largely not covered by the other reviews, so I will explain why I give this dehumidifier a rather poor rating. First, I acknowledge that this unit is light and is very quiet. If weight and noise level are your primary concerns, then you should consider buying this. But if quality, efficiency and use are important, avoid this. Here is a list of the good and bad. Positive Features: 1. Very quiet. The compressor and the fan are remarkable quiet. 2. Light. Easily lifted and moved around. Negative Features: 1. Inefficient. This unit is not energy-star rated, and pumps out a lot of heat. When used in a small room, that room will get overheated and become uncomfortable. 2. Poor quality. The unit is constructed with cost as the primary concern and reliability as a minor concern. The float is made of plastic and styrofoam and arrived b... Read more

Sun Aug 16 2009Great unit. Have been using it over a year now with no problems. It does a good job with humidity, especially in basements. Very quiet and effective. I have to empty regularly because where I need it it's not close to a drain but I'm getting use to it.

Sat Aug 08 2009I use this dehumidifier in an un-airconditioned house in New England. The basement is VERY VERY humid and if I dont get the moisture out of the air everything down there molds. The dehumidifier works perfectly. It was easy to setup, and easy to connect to an external pump. It pulls about 4 gallons of water every 3 days. Its also very quiet and small. I'm not sure why this dehumidifier is so small and saves so much power, but i'm glad i bought it, and I would buy again.
