Skiing (Snow)

As a competitive sport its as tough a physical challange as you'll find and in Europe the elite of the sport are regarded as Gods who walk among men. For most participants however it is a form of recreation and not for the weak of finances. But for me, there is no place I would rather spend my vacation than at a resort in the mountains. The bracing outdoor experience is both thrilling and fulfilling and the general culture of playing hard and partying harder is pretty irresistable, especially for a young adult. The WildYears family will be heading to the Canadian Rockies for Christmas holidays again this year.

Natasha Richardson(Liam Neeson's wife) and Sonny Bono both died the same way. Skiing accidents. If you are not an experienced skier, please take lessons. Skiing can be dangerous. Only experienced people should ski.

A thrilling sport.  I hope to be able to ski in certain parts of Italy, France and Canada one day, but right now I'll settle for Aspen or Vermont.  Killington VT is my current favorite.

Cold weather training made me hate skiing for a while...

The best fun you can have outside of bed! In Europe the best skiing to be had is in France particularly in the Three Valleys and Portes du Soleil areas. To be honest Im not that arsed about the whole apres ski thing. Get me on those planks of wood and I'm as happy as a pig in sh*t especially going off piste. Not that bothered about watching it on TV though.

Skiing is a fun activity, but just watching it is ho-hum. Unless, of course, you are watching that classic TV clip that kicked off ABC's Wide World of Sports Was there ever a better illustration for ... and the agony of defeat?

One of the only if not the only sport you can have a great time by yourself as well as others...the rush the excitment there is always a bigger hill to conquer a bigger jump to land..a sport where you can do it well on in to old age..its the opposite of golf..you can do both anytime of your life..and you can always get better no matter who you are

Fast-paced, exciting, lacking in violence, and set in beautiful snow, skiing is a joy to watch. An integral part of the Winter Olympics, which are utterly awesome.

Pretty dangeroud thing to do, but if you're skilled it can be a rush.

Maybe I feel that skiing is so great because I don't get the oppurtunity to enjoy it that often. When I do go, it's a good time. If you go with novices, it's fun to watch them roll down the mountian the first few times. I've done it myself plenty of times. But it's a rush when you're at the bottom a huge mountian you just made it down semi-decently. It also feels like you've accomplished something. You know, it probably has one of the highest break-a-limb potentials of any sport. Too bad it's May right now, because I feel like being out on the slopes. The only downfall is those long rides up the lifts.

I've lived in Denver for 10 years, and I spent the first five trying to convince myself to like skiing. In theory, it sounds great. You're outside in a beautiful setting, getting a good workout, and hanging out with your friends. In practice, though, it's a different story. You have to get up at the crack of dawn to beat the traffic up to the slopes. It's not uncommon to get stuck in a jam for several hours, especially if there's been an accident. Then you have to carry your heavy equipment for miles (OK, it just seems like miles) before you reach the ski lift. Let's not skip the part about buying a lift ticket. Talk about expensive! Lift tickets average $50-60 per day, and then you have to buy lunch and snacks/drinks. That's a lot to spend for a day of entertainment. The skiing itself is OK, if you aren't freezing to death and your knees can take the abuse. Then it's time to trudge back to your car (again, carrying all of that heavy equipment) and hope and pray you don't get stuck in ... Read more
