My son, Nigel, was gaining weight normally however he constantly spit up an hour or two after feedings. The Dr. would say "it's more of a laundry issue" (Thanks Doc)!! Finally one of the Drs. rotating at my son's Ped office heard me through and gave us samples of the Alimentum Formula. Within 2 days my son changed! We no longer have to hold him at arm's length, he's able to hold his formula down. While it's expensive - its definitely worth the price tag. He has been on this formula now for 5 months and we'll continue until he's a year. FYI, many drugstores and supermarkets hold only a few on the shelves, therefore, it's best to stock up and buy 2/3 at a time if the formula works for you. Good luck!

My daughter is almost 4 months old. After breastfeeding, we started her on a store brand formula that gave her horrible gas pains. Doc recommended trying Nestle Good Start. We switched and it seemed to help a little bit, but she was still spitting up and having a really hard time pooping. Found out that she's allergic to milk and eggs so we switched, yet again, to soy. Soy was the worst. She seemed to spit up a little less, but the constipation was unreal. I felt so bad for her watching her try and "push". Anyway, she's been on Alimentum for two weeks now and it's like night and day. It smells awful and she still spits up a little, but her little system is moving nicely and she is free of gas pains. I would for sure recommend this formula.

My son who is 1 month now has been on 4 formulas since birth. First similac advantage, the their soy one, the enfamil gentlease now the doctor put him on similac alimentum. My son starting having bad gas all the time once we brought him home from the hospital. He did the worse on the soy formula then any of the other ones. He wasn't sleep well at all, he just cried in pain all the time cause of the bad gas and his skin was so dry. I couldn't get him to eat but an 1 to 1 1/2oz of formula every 2 hours. He just didnt want it cause it hurt his little tummy so much. The doctor put him on alimentum almost 2 weeks ago and he is doing alot better. I found out tho. He does alot better on the ready to feed then the powder formula. The corn in the powder which is not in the ready to drink was hard on his tummy too. I love the ready to drink, no tummy aches. It is just a like costly tho. I did some research with my insurance company and found out my united healthcare insurance covers this formul... Read more

This one or Nutramigen did not work for my baby. I have seen so many good reviews about both products that I am sure, many babies from protein allergies benefit a lot from them. My baby has acid reflux-- the AR formula did not work for him and neither did Alimentum or Nutramigen.

hello~ just had some questions about alimentum...my 3 month old son has been on alimentum for about a month now...it has done wonders for him. he still has times throughout the day where he is grouchy, but overall it has done wonders for him. we have to rectally stimulate him everyday to get him to poop...is this normal? he gets very uncomfortable so we know that he needs to poop...his poop is not hard, and he has no problem going...but he need that extra help....just wondering if it could be an intestinal problem...? fyi--he has had "digestive" issues since birth...first he threw up alllll the time, he had an upper GI done when he was about 2 weeks old....he was then put on soy formula...he was also put on zantac for reflux...his dr. put him on alimentum at 2 months....and like i said it has worked wonders on him, but im kind of concerned that he cant poop on his own even though he isnt constipated????

I am a first time mom to my 7 week old daughter who is now on Alimentum. This is basically our last resort. My husband's family has a history with Heirschsprung Disease which is where they lack certain nerves in your intestine. Without these nerves your intestine doesnt push the food through & causes constipation & everybody knows that that causes a fussy & gassy baby. Well I was just doing some research on the formula and found these reviews & had some imput. I am a stay at home mom and even with 1 income we do not qualify for wic. Alimentum is an expensive formula but i did find a website that sells it in bulk and it is the cheapest i have found. the website is www.babywuvinc.com. the powder that they offer in bulk is the cheapest in bulk around... the liquid is the same as others tho.. good luck to all <3

My son is 9 weeks old. He cannot tolerate the milk or soy proteins so the doctor told me to switch to Alimentum or Nutramegin. He spits up so much with this formula and seems to have so much more gas, especially at night since he doesn't sleep for more then two hours at a time. I was told that spitting up with this formula is pretty normal because it's so thin and broken down so much. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm about at my wits end. He's gaing weight just fine, but it just seems that as soon as he eats he's spitting it right back up. He didn't do that with the regular or soy based formulas. He had stool problems with both of the other ones, but not spit up. Any advice, especially with the gas and sleep issue?

everyone just to let you know it can be easy to get it for free. Go to social service or health department sign up for WIC and get a note from the doctors saying the reason for the use of alimentum take it to wic and you will get checks to get them for the first year for free. thats what i did! if you have any other questions about it plz feel free to email me at [email protected]

We tried many different formulas for our preemie and Alimentum has worked the best. We just can't afford to keep using it. If it were organic, I wouldn't mind paying the extra for a hypoallergenic organic formula. I just think it's crazy expensive. I would give it 5 stars if it was organic.

This is the best formula. It was a miracle for my daughter who couldn't tolerate any milk or soy based formulas. Everyone says it smells terrible but it doesn't smell nearly as bad as soy formula!

It has been 24 hours and I have seen a tremendous improvement in my baby's gassiness and temperament. My daughter is 6 weeks old and I have been breastfeeding since she came home from the hospital. She had been fussy and crying for hours a day and we were going crazy trying to figure out what the problem was. We tries Good start and Similac soy with some improvement, but she was still uncomfortable and gassy. We were desperate and tried the Alimentum. It is like we have a different baby. She napped several times today and sat in a swing and on her activity mat for a period of time without crying. She actually smiled multiple times. Prior to today we could not prevent her from crying unless we held her (even that sometimes did not help with the gas cries) or bounced or rocked her endlessly. I am sad that breastfeeding was probably causing her discomfort. I breastfed my first daughter for 7 months with no problem. Of course it does have a strong unpleasant odor, but a small price to... I have a 12 week old baby boy, with some gas trouble. I would not consider him collicky, but his doctor thought it worthwhile to see how he would do with Similac Alimentum (I mostly breastfeed and have augmented my diet quite a lot also - no dairy, no spicy food, no gassy veggies...there's not much left for mom to eat!!) and hoped it would lessen his flatulence and help him to sleep better through the night. My son hated the Alimentum, he would generally drink 6 oz. of the previous formula we'd been giving him, and when given a bottle of Alimentum, he had a hard time taking 3 oz., and then would always spit-up...he doesn't generally spit-up, so this was new. I tried to stick with the Alimentum but after about a day and a half I switched him to Enfamil Gentlease, and he's been eating like a champ, back to 6 oz. bottles. Also, I noticed with the Similac Alimentum, his bowel movements were VERY liquidy, much more than normal. Just goes to show you, sometimes the only way to find out ... Read more

I have a 5 week old little girl and because of latching on problems my breastmilk has slowly declined. I still breastfeed her what I can, but have been suplementing formula most of the time. She had a hard time with the regular, lactose-free, and soy so I have tried the hypoallergenic. First, I tried the Alimentum and it worked great, but her bowl movements were very liquidy and had a horrific smell. So then I tried Nutramegin but that did not seem to work for her. She was still straining way too hard (to the point of crying most of the time) and had much trouble with gas and passing bowl movements, so back to the Alimentum it is. I noticed that there were a lot of good comments about Nutramigen, but you really just need to try each of the formulas out for yourself because every baby's GI is different. Alimentum helps my little girl quite a bit and yes it is more expensive but there are ways to get it for free: (WIC if your income permits or through your insurance depending on your cov... this is the best formula for my 5 week old daughter. It took three different formulas to find the correct one. She was always fussing, pulling her legs up to her chest, grimacing and making fists all the time. we noticed a change in about 48 hours and now when we put her in her swing or crib, she doesn't fuss at all, not even if she stays awake. She's more relaxed and smiling now too. Well worth the price. -Heather

I am only 48 hours in and it has helped my daughter. The product stinks really bad and my daughter seems to hate the taste but once down she seems to spit up a lot less. Only if they can do something about the smell.. YUCK!

After trying a couple of formulas this seems to be the one my daughter tolerates the most. I am still to figure out what I am feeding her thought because on the can it says that it is not "Formula". She is also going potty better, except everyone has to leave the room when she does, because whatever this is or has in it,is potent stuff. I must say though for the price, it better work wonders and it has for me. Oh! and the ready to feed seems to work better then the powder.

To Twinmom 101: It is true that breastfeeding is better, but you have to understand that sometimes babies cannot tolerate breastmilk. Babies with true milk protein allergies cannot tolerate most formulas, and breastmilk either. You also have to realize that young babies do not have taste buds yet, so to them this is their food.. they don't think it's gross or smells bad like we do. They get used to it and it is normal to them. You have to do what's best for your baby. If this works, like it did for my baby (it made a tremendous improvement!)- then it's a great thing. I think it's wonderful-- worked great for us. I would have loved to breastfeed, I breastfed my first child for a year- but I couldn't with this one-- she just could not tolerate breast milk.

I am a first time mom, and did not realize my child was colic. My daughter tried and rejected all Enfamil products. Her tummy loves Similac Alimentum and digests it so much better.

I too tried regular and soy formula as well as breast feeding but Similac Alimentum Advance has made a huge improvement with her fussiness and gas. I highly recommend the product (although the ready-to-feed liquid seems to work better than the powder for my baby).

My baby was very fussy because her body was unable to break down proteins found in regular formula. Even breast milk was making her upset. However, when the Doctor switched us to Similac Alimentum Advance the fussyness went away. I highly recommend it. (Isomil was tried as well and the baby was still not able to digest the proteins too well).

See my comments about Nutramigen. These hypoallergenic products are gross! Breastfeeding is best for avoiding allergies and stomach upset- this is really a last resort.
