Violent night Holy shite All is calm Since the fight Sis is nine months heavy with child Caught smoking Mary Jane black and milds She's still picking up tee-eeth She's still picking up Teeth EDIT: I swear this one is genius, but they're all so dark and weird, I understand if I get more 'D's than anything. I should apologize to the next God fearing person I see.

More theological nonsense from the church. Written by an Austrian priest, the song is about the first two chapters of Luke, which were not part of the original (Marcion's version began at today's chapter three), but added later on in the late 2nd century.

Kind of like the X-mas carol equivalent of "Stairway to Heaven",it was kind of nice the first 500 times....

My personal favourite Christmas Carol, and my favourite recording of it... (disregard the visual collage that the vidoe maker pulled together for it)

This is probably one of my favorite songs. After all the years of choir this was and still is the one of the only carols that I sing with as much heart as I did when I first learned it.

Probably the best of them all. Silent Night is a classic Christmas song. At one point in time I could sing it as Stille Nacht, but since I don't know any German, it was pure memorization, and I've forgotten it.

I happen to like Monophony; Sounds almost like a Gregorian Chant.

I'm only rating this one because the song conjurors up pictures of being alone out in the snow on a silent night away from all the festive lights and annoying upbeat xmas carols. Simply add a chair, a beer, a cigar... and enjoy.

Why do I always tear up with this song? well I am like a big boob, at certain things, but something is so tender about that song. "Silent Night" is peacefull, I think that is what does it, it is that sense of peace that means more to our hearts and souls than what we acknowledge. We think we want presents, and all that is associated with Christmas, but no it is far from that. It is the sense of peace in our hearts and beings, that allows us to be good Catholic people and to be actively involved in doing good for our fellow man, by first knowing what and why we are being motivated.

The melody also makes an excellent lullaby for baby.

I think it is a testament to how comforting Christmas charols can be that these are rated so highly. I've heard this song a million times a million ways, and still, when I hear it, before Christmas, sung by a children's chior or performed as an instrumental, it brings back memories of Christmases past, and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

My favorite of all Christmas carols. I've sang this tune in a few holiday choirs I've been in, and the vocal harmonies have been magical.

The great Christmas carol. The version Alan is referring to is Silent Night/The Six O'clock News features a pretty, acoustic version of this song with pretty harmony by S&G; and the stories of the 6 o'clock news of the late 60's being callously read in the background. Disturbing. You're not gonna get into the Christmas Spirit playing this version.

For these war times, listening to the Simon & Garfunkel version this holiday will be appropiate.

A great, traditional Christmas carol that I enjoy listening to over and over again during the holidays. Wonderful!

I would have to rank this as one of my favorites, as far as Christmas tunes are concerned. Actually, I appreciate any Christmas carol which mentions the Lord, who is the real reason for Season.

A lovely song that never fails to remind me of my childhood. One of those melodies that seems to evoke something deep within me.

Sublime, because of its utter simplicity. Structurally it is related to Amazing Grace --and it has a similar emotional impact.

Well... it's pretty boring to be honest. The true meaning of Christmas has been lost so there is no feeling in it, it's just a song ya sing for the fun of it at Christmas time now. I think that Christmas carols should be more upbeat these days... cause noone cares, these songs are boring.

A classic. Very nice and easy song to learn how to play. I can play it on piano, clarinet and trumpet. No diddydiddies as me and Diana like to call them. A beautiful song. Older then me.

Whenever I hear the song I get the feeling of being outside on a winter night in South Dakota. The snow has fallen and the mounds of snow make the whole world quiet. Standing on the sidewalk you can hear people talking two blocks away. That's my memory as a child, now it's those damn snowblowers that drown out the silence.

Nothing extraordinary. Better than some of those others, sleep-inducing carols, but overrated nonetheless.

One of the all-time classic carols, and deservedly so. Like many carols, it all really depends on who is singing it, but with the right voice behind it, it's beautiful.

Another pretty Christmas carol. Most people at least know the first verse of this carol. One of the older ones that has been passed down through the generations. There is something nice about Christmas carols that have been around for ages.
