Possibly the worst ever West Country accent I've ever heard. I didn't like Sean in this film as Sam, but as a character Sam contributed a lot.

Admittedly, I've only seen one 'Lord of the Rings' movie, but Sean Astin seems kind of lame in any role including this one. Obviously, 'The Goonies' and 'Rudy' were his two big hits, but when your dad is Gomez Addams, I guess you get big roles.

Sean astin I think did a great job because he made it feel like he really was Frodo's servant. I think he also did a great job capturing the esscence of this gardener who just wants to be there for his master. When I read the books I see the same Sam in my mind and that is mostly because of Sean Astin's great acting. I think he was one of the best actors in the film.

He captured the character perfectly and I can't imagine anyone else doing better. By far one of the best actors, if not THE best, in the trilogy.

The guy can act pretty well. I got a little weary of the "Sam and Frodo" scenes but that was mostly because of the loathsome actor playing Frodo.

At first, I was somewhat baffled that " Rudy" was going to play Sam, but he improved with each picture and by the third movie he was really, really good and even moving, in the role.

Sean Astin knows how to act and is very emotional in all the right places to make his performance in The Lord of the Rings phenomonal! (I also enjoyed his performance in Rudy.) I love watching him. He is an amazing actor and I hope that some day I can be a good actor like him and maybe even meet him. *I have also read his book "There and Back Again, An Actor's Tale" and it was a really good book that was full of insight. Thank you Sean Astin for being such a good role model and helping me learn more about Lord of the Rings and acting in general. I am the #1 fan of Lord of the Rings and Samwise Gamgee is my absolute favorite character (in the book and the movie). Maybe someday I can meet Sean Astin and maybe even Peter Jackson (and I would love to have a copy of the script signed by all the actors, how cool would that be!?!). the.fellowship.prevails

Sean Astin talks more about his talent than any of us could...yet...if this was his BEST performance...huh...imagine that.

Sean Astin was wonderful - truly epitomizing the true character of Sam. Astin was the best of an extremely phenomenal cast.

In the books, Sam is a simple gardener that eventually becomes the epitome of bravery and friendship. Sean Astin captured him perfectly.

Sean Astin has just the right look, and is so believable in his performance as the ever-loyal Sam.

Everyone was great in this movie, but Shean Astin really blew me away as far as acting the part.

Sean Astin...man he is too great for words. He and Elijah Wood pulled this trilogy off with no flaws. Frodo and Sam's friendship is so amazing. And Sean's performance was absolutely stunning. He's one of my favorite actors, that's for sure! Too bad he didn't get an oscar. We'll send him a special Mithril award! :D

When the Oscar nominations were coming out, there was a buzz in Hollywood that Sean Astin would get a nod for his portrayal of Sam. I was especially moved by his performance in the last film, as he showed himself as a real friend and became a different kind of hero. It was disappointing that Sean was overlooked for the Oscar, but he's really proven himself as an actor and I'm sure he'll have more important roles in the years to come.

I remember watching Sean Astin in small roles here and there back in the 80's...I always thought he had great potential...especially considering his bloodline. His mother, Patty Duke was a wonderful actress and still is, and Sean Astin obviously caught her acting genes...I hope this movie will help him get better roles as his talent shows no bounds...EXCELLENT !

Pretty good actor. I especially liked him with John Favreau in Rudy. Does a good job here as well.

There is no denying Sean Astin's fantastic acting in these three films. He completely personified Samwise Gamgee for me-every aspect of his performance displayed how the books portrayed him. It's in Return of the King however, that he really shines, definitely deserving an Oscar nod. One of the best of the cast!
