The 'gifted program' field trip was cool, we threw ice at each other like morons, the punishment was 'silent lunch' and an essay about public stupidity. The 'silent lunch' rule wasn't broken, but a kid got covered in ice cream and my silent puppet show about a talking milk carton that throws up at the end (no surprise, really) went over too well, I guess. That turned into detention and beatings. The regular 6th grade field trip sucked and here's some of why. We went to a smelly summer camp and they gave us little nets to catch minnows in, and told us not to swim. I actually couldn't swim, so no worries. My homeroom teacher (an ex-nun with a burned up face) called me out and had me stand by a tree all day anyway. For swimming. In my dry shirt. We go back to the school at the end of the day and she bounces a roll of tape off my jaw from 20 feet away. I guess I whispered or something. She made school board and it's pretty much all my fault for not throwing her back in that fire. Inciden... Read more

Most field trips I remember weren't great. Went to a farm in Year 1, it was okay but nothing spectacular. Then I remember a couple of trips to museums- they were better than school, but definitely not the best part of my childhood. The only great field trip was when we went to Legoland in Year 4.

There's a couple of school field trips in particular that I remember really well, but they're not anything that I would consider being a great part of my childhood.

Getting out of school was always fun as a kid. Living near DC, we got to go to the Kennedy Center, different Smithsonian museums, Fort McHenry in 4th grade, and an overnight trip in 5th grade to St. Mary's, Maryland. Those were pretty good trips in elementary school. My middle school had a "DC week" when we took each day to see different sights around DC. The best experience was Friday, when we were allowed to head out on our own and see whatever we wanted to by Metro. We also had an "Outdoor Week" when we had the opportunity to go camping, climbing, rappelling, canoeing, and head down zip lines. I had some good experiences with field trips, and I'm glad that I attended schools that gave me those types of experiences when I was growing up.

My mom didn't believe in spending money on junk food, so the only time I got a good fix of eating them is when there was a school field trip. I used to stuff myself on a trip like that until I puked my gut out since I have always been so prone to motion sickness.

Some of my favourite memories are from field trips. There was one when we were about 11 which involved various typical exciting things and slightly out-of-the-ordinary sports as rafting and archery, which, coupled with the general social interaction, made for a great time which I remember well even today.

Best field trip I remember was being taken by my Social Studies teacher in grade 10 to Vancouver's Strathcona district, to see urban poverty first hand. I scored a bag of righteous weed.

I don't remember any field trip being exciting. One I remember going to was an insurance place, they explained how insurance worked and life insurance. Boring. Another was going to the water purification place and the guy went on and on like we were in college, and I believe it was 5th or 6th grade. Double boring. I don't rememeber anything else.

I liked these because it took away from the monotony of the typical school day.

When I was in the sixth grade we took an extended field trip to Glenn Ranch in the San Bernadino Mountains. We spent a week at the camp; hiking , exploring Bonita Falls and getting to really know each other. It was one of the best time I ever had. A great childhood memory!
