Wed Jan 02 2013i am going to talk about a savage model 10 in .243 caliber. a savage is the most accurate rifle i have ever shot. i have killed a bunch of deer 300 yards plus with this rifle. not to mention countless groundhogs and coyotes. pair it with hornady superformance and you have an amazing rifle.

Wed Sep 23 2009I have a Savage Model 1999 30-30 with a serial number in the 350xxx range. How old is it? Also in medium condition, what is it worth. .

Wed Sep 26 2007I still have my first gun a303 model 99. I also have a model 99 in 308. I have hunted all over the west coast. I have lived in alaska and hunted anything that you would eat. I have two winchester lever actions too. 1895 and 1894 They are good guns but a savage is the best rifle ever made. I am 66 years old and I have had the 303 for 58 years and it has never jamed. It is like pointing your finger. Some of my friends have used it and they could not believe how well it shoots.

Sat Apr 01 2006I think the people that have owned, and dislike the Savage 99, should be taught how to shop for a rifle. Yup, they were rifled. If it's been shot hard for 75 yrs., you have the Nepalese Water Fountain Guard smoothbore model.

Thu Dec 01 2005When I was a kid and spent lots of time scanning the catalogs for hunting guns, and I fell in love with the looks of the 99 Savage. The slim forend model with the schnabel tip was in my view the best looking rifle ever made. Later in life I bought one, a takedown Model 99G in .300 Savage. In original condition with its open sights, I can still outshoot most modern scope sighted shooters from the offhand position. A handloaded 150gr. bullet at 2,800 fps chronographs right along with most .308 loads and even beats some tested .30-06 factory loads. As a woods or semi-open forested area rifle it can't be beaten. The ole 99 will never be equaled.

Mon Oct 24 2005.....I lucked into a pristine Savage 99 in .284 Winchester (featherweight with the rotary magazine) some yeasrs back now. This rifle shoots like a bolt gun (minute of angle with favored loads) and is a wonderful deer rifle with superb balance. It always brings great praise and interest in the deer camp! I've never required more than one shot to kill a deer with it,using both handloaded Nosler ballistic tip bullets and a few Winchester 150 grain factory loads..My only complaint with the old Savage design is with it's stock, which has excessive drop at comb and heel in my opinion..

Tue Oct 11 2005I was shopping for a .243 last year for my son. My friend (a professional guide) recomended the Savage. Being a Winchester guy I thought he was nuts but I took his advice and it's worked out great. My son, who is all of 90 lbs and has never before shot anything bigger than a .22 rifle was shooting 2 inch groups at 100 yards inside of 15 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. Steve Goff

Fri Aug 20 2004My granddaddy told me if I ever bought a savage he would come out of his grave and haunt me. I bought a savage and he has. That gun is like shooting a mis shaped buffalo turd. I think that any one who buys one probably drinks too much. I know I drank to much when I bought mine. I am quitting and will probably buy a Browning.

Fri Apr 02 2004Great balance, very dependable, for a rifle designed over a 100 yrs ago it was far ahead of its time. Great brush gun. Have hunted elk and deer both and was never disapointed with its performance.

Mon Dec 15 2003My new used 1950 Savage 250-3000 is just AWESOME in all respects! I truly recommend it to anyone who can find one on the used gun racks. I am planning to buy a few more soon! Same caliber.

Thu Feb 20 2003The Savage 99 was designed to mount a scope and handle high pressure cartridges over 100 years ago, and is still the most sleek, compact lever action design available. The new short mag cartridges are all the rage now; but Savage came out with the Model 99 in .284 WIN decades ago. Good luck finding one. As for the Browning BLR or Winschester or Marlin "side-eject" lever actions-ugh! Bad lever throws, terrible triggers and in comparison--just plain ugly!

Thu Sep 12 2002In 250/3000 and 300 Savage calibers,a superb woods gun for deer and black bear (250/3000) and for moose (300 Savage) Probably one of the most reliable lever action guns ever built.
