of course it's hot. you're in georgia.  of course there are rude fans. it's college football. half the fans there are drunk students or alumni. SEC egos? of course. I believe it was an SEC team that spanked the crap out of the "unbeatable juggernaut" that was the buckeyes, correct? I'm so sick of no one giving the SEC it's due. But that's another topic.  As far as stadiums, you'll be hard pressed to find one with more tradition and atmosphere than Sanford.  To sit there and hear Larry Munson's poetic pregame desrciption of the heritage of the Bulldawg Nation almost brings me to tears. You can argue that there are rude fans all you want. but name a team that doesn't have them, and you'll be lying. I'm not saying there aren't better stadiums out there, but i am saying there aren't many.

I've been to countless games here, and I mean come on UGA fans. If the dawgs are loseing before halftime the stadium will have tons of empty seats for the rest of the game...true dedicated fans there...

If you've ever been to see a game at Sanford you know why this is one of the best places in the country to watch a football game.

You want to see a place where it seems time has stood still. WOW! Worst looking crowd you've ever seen. 90,000 of them. Doesn't give you much hope for the future of our country. I've sat in the stands, in a box, and on the sidelines. Never seen so many abnoxious drunks. Nothing here to write home about

As Verne Lundqvist of CBS says, one of the most picturesque and impressive settings in all of college football. With over 92,000 seats, it's nestled in a valley and almost hidden (hard to believe) amongst stately old buildings and trees. The best on campus stadium I've ever seen. Coming from the UK, these southern gents and ladies gave me my introduction to college sports here in the states. I shall always love and appreciate them for it. Will always have special and fond memories of the people, tailgating, pleasant smells, and gorgeous scenery. If you have a problem here with these fans, look at your own actions to see why. The only friendlier bunch I've seen is maybe Kentucky and Ole Miss. One of this nation's top 20 public universities for 7 straight years and a top big time college atmosphere. You won't find trouble at Sanford Stadium unless you look for it.

I CAN'T BELIEVE MANY OF THESE COMMENTS ARE UNBIASED. I'VE BEEN TO EVERY SEC STADIUM NUMEROUS TIMES. SANFORD ISN'T THE BEST, BUT IT IS CERTAINLY BETTER THAN MOST. ARKANSAS IS THE BEST BY FAR. NOT AS LARGE AS THE OTHERS BUT EASILY THE MOST COMFORTABLE. SANFORD DOES HAVE CRAMPED CORRIDORS (EXCEPT IN THE TWO END ZONE SECTIONS) BUT THE SPACE BETWEEN ROWS IS BETTER THAN ANY OTHER SEC STADIUM. ALSO, THERE ARE MORE AISLES THAN MOST STADIUMS WHICH MEANS YOU DON'T HAVE TO CLIMB OVER 30 PEOPLE TO EXIT FROM THE MIDDLE OF A ROW. SOME UGA FANS ARE RUDE BUT, AS A WHOLE, ONLY OLE MISS AND LSU HAVE MORE FRIENDLY FANS. ALL IN ALL, I FIND SANFORD AND ATHENS EXCELLENT.

Second largest stadium in the south in the best conference in the nation. Always a great game to watch at this stadium, except when the unfortunate easy teams to beat are scheduled to keep the record high and give the team a break from their tough conference schedule (ie. New Mexico State, Louisiana Monroe, Georgia Tech). Those games can keep the stadium from being as great as it is when the better teams are in town. It's about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Its one of the very few stadiums that are still located on campus, not too mention the heart of campus. You don't have that professional sports stadium atmosphere you get at most schools where they had to move their stadiums off campus and build parking lots all around them. Those stadiums take away from the college atmosphere of tailgating and soaking in the fact that you are at a COLLEGE game and completely engrossed in being at an one of the Top 20 Academic Public Universities in the country. Lastly, its located i... Read more

After you read all of these reviews, please click on the link next to the name of the reviewer. This will give you an idea who is reviewing our stadium (mostly bored Ga Tech or Clemson fans). You will see that most reviewers gave opposing stadiums a one star while giving their home stadium a 5 star. 99.9% of GA fans will call out the 0.1% bad fan and let them know they arent living up to the standards of UGA--I know because I have done it on occasion.I have NEVER seen people throwing coke, beer or urine on opposing fans. This is an absolute false rumor--almost all Georgia fans are good natured and will cut up with opposing fans--but it is all in fun. At least in the SEC, you expect that when you go to an opposing teams field. Yes, there are obnoxious Georgia fans, but no more or less than any other school. Every school at one time or another has had the obnoxious fan who probably never attended the school and is just bandwagoning with a winning team. DO NOT LET THESE REVIEWS TURN YO... Read more

If you are making plans for a college football trip this year, don't waste your time with this place. Go to Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Mississippi, or Florida State to spend time with respectful fans and enjoy the southern college football experience. I admit the stadium looked good on TV so we made a trip to Athens Georgia last year. However, while watching TV you don't get an appreciation for how hot and uncomfortable this place is, how physical and rude the people are, or how poor the service is in Athens. The stadium literally sits in a hole, which means there is no breeze and the heat is oppressive, even in October. There are no overhangs so there is no shade. Nearly every seat is far away from the action, so the fans got bored and started messing with each other and with us. They were in our face for most of the game. The university spent a great deal of time running messages encouraging respect and good sportsmanship on the scoreboard but no ... Read more

Overrated, old stadium, with lousy fans (they are VERY, VERY good at showing up however). One of the quiestest stadiums in the nation, despite the size! The fans are band wagon, and will leave REAL early if things aren't going their way! (1999 against Auburn is a GREAT example.) There was NO ONE left by half time! I am a UGA student, so I'm sure I'll get bashed for admitting the truth! 90% of you morons (so called UGA fans) never even went to school here, do your opinion means jack!

I love my dawgs, and I love Sanford Stadium. Our campus is beautiful, and our women are aesthetically pleasing to say the least. Let's face it folks: The south has the hottest women in the US, and you will find an especially tasty sampling at Sanford on gameday. I often find myself drawn away from the games to watch a beautiful girl walk by in tight black pants and a red halter top (the uniform for Athens hotties). It truly is a sight to see (only Ole Miss and Auburn equal UGA in the sheer quantity and quality). Tech fans are jealous; never trust a Tech fan or Tech graduate. They know nothing of the real world. I do, however, agree with many of you on our fans. You see, our run of success in the past few years has drawn in a special breed of fan who has no true loyalty to the university or to the state of GA for that matter: the bandwagon fan. They're rabid when it's great; tepid and downright surly when it's bad. Their intellectual level and BAL can be easily distinguished, ... Read more

Most overhyped college stadium in the South. Big but not intimidating or imposing like Clemson. In-game atmosphere tepid unlike places like FSU. The concourses are cramped, tiny, and dark. But worse than a bland atmosphere and average physical facilities, is the grouping of some of the worst, most obnoxious, rude, and vulgar fans you will find at a college football game. Not all are like this, but you will likely encounter more here than at other schools.

    Sat Aug 06 2005

Small seats, small aisles, small breeze-ways, lousy concessions and even more lousy fans. Vastly over-rated stadium with poor sight lines. Much ado about nothing. The recent stench of sewage in the air doesn't help. Probably the most rude hosts in all of the South. Watch for flying urine, beer bottles/cans and keying cars at opposition tailgates.

    Sat Aug 06 2005

Difficult access outside and inside the stadium. Cramped concourses and walkway areas make a constant parade of fans around the field who don't care anything about the game. Security is generally lacking in the stadium, so rowdy fans pretty much feel free to do as they please. The new sky deck gives great views into South Carolina, which is closer than the field. Sanford is a great example of bigger is NOT better. And there's nothing quite like the sight of the great red throng leaving early when their team is losing...or if they're winning...or they're bored or the weather is bad.

Just too darn big now! 3rd level deck should have flashing warning lights for low-flying aircraft. Players look like ants from the upper part of the 2nd deck and the 3rd deck. Much better view of game at home on TV, if you don't have seats on the lower level or club seats. And, with the new restricted parking, expect to walk a mile or more from your parking place if you're not a big donor.

Despite what Tech fans would have you believe, this is THE best college football stadium in America set on a beautiful college campus (not jagged edifice wedge in a concrete jungle like Bobby Dodd (bug tussle, can't fill the seats, whoa is me because we're overrun with opposing fans) Stadium.

Over-rated. Old concrete bowl is beginning to resemble a toilet as much as anything else. Concessions are lacking. UGA fans aren't the best of hosts either. You'll see that as a trend amongst non-UGA raters.

Awful place to try to enjoy a football game. Who designed the walkways? Need to go to the restroom or to the concession stand? Then you're in for a twenty minute belly rub with thousands of pushy, overdressed, drunk, perspiring people. This might be OK for the perverts out there, but it is not OK for those who just want to get some relief from the heat. Also the lady in the concession stand insisted on taking the caps off of the water bottles we bought. She told us the fans like to throw them fully loaded off the top decks. First class. Want to drive a car to the game? Count on forking over at least twenty bucks and taking a thirty minute hike past hundreds of empty spaces. Who are they saving all those spaces for? Also count on sitting an hour in traffic while the drunk kids headed to the clubs downtown dart between the cars after the game. Also don't get too comfortable in your seat. Most of the fans arrive intoxicated from tailgating long after the game starts. They ru... Read more

Just shy of the hills of North Georgia, about 60 miles east of Atlanta, rests Athens, home of the University of Georgia where parents tailgate with their kids on Autumn Saturdays and young men don the silver britches and follow the tradition that is Georgia football. Sanford Stadium, UGA, and beautiful girls clad in their Saturday best- that's what it's all about. Not to mention 92,020 of your closest friends. Glory, glory to Ole Georgia!

Not impressed, beginning to look run down. These are the worst fans I've ever seen. They throw stuff at the opposing fans, pee on the sidewalks, and show everyone the true rednecks they really are. Crappy fans create a crappy atmosphere. Athens is a horrible place as it is. It seems as if they've taken a regular 2 lane road and tried to turn it into a 4 lane road. You can forget bringing your SUV to Athens unless you feel like sideswiping or being sideswiped by someone else. If you are looking to blow a whole Saturday, call the University of Georgia and reserve your tickets today.
