Fri Sep 25 2009If you are reading this STOP: Don't even THINK about taking anything here. As the other reviews suggest - I believe the management/ownership has changed recently because there is NO WAY the incompetent employees I have had to interact with could even perform half as well as the comments from two years ago. Long story short: they ruined my bag, admitted they shouldn't have taken it in, and treated me horribly - I didn't get one cent back Who knows who owns the place. After coming in 5-6 times to address my problem I find out the guy I'd been interacting with 3-4 times who said I need to wait for the manager is actually the owner? Something smells funny.... Don't take a chance with this place - it's one thing to have no idea how to repair leather items; it's another to act like a complete RUDE when you know you've messed up.

Fri May 15 2009I used to bring all of my shoes and satchels here to get fixed. the service was awesome! but now that owners have changed, Sandburg Shoe & Leather has gone down hill drastically!!! I had brought in 3 purses for repair (I was coming all the way from the suburbs). I came to pick up my purses on the date they said they would be ready, but only one purse was done! Three times I drove all the way out there only to find out that they were not finished! Then, the lining that the owner made for one of them was not the color I had requested. He told me he would not make me a new one without charging me for the wrong lining. The service was slow, rude, overpriced and all in all TERRIBLE!!! I miss the old owner, the old workers, the place I would drive to all the way from the suburbs. That Sandburg's no longer exists. Please, find any other place but this one to take your shoes and leather!

Mon Dec 01 2008I don't like to buy new shoes. I love the ones I have and want to keep them forever. Sandburg does their work on-site, the owner is very friendly and the results were excellent. My favorite pair of boots came back looking like new. I highly recommend Sandburg Shoe & Repair. The folks at Yelp love them too.

Wed Oct 31 2007I have been to this shoe repair for the last time! Service is abysmal, but this is not a concern of the ownder: they simply do not care. There is very sparse selection of product items needed for shoes eg insoles. Prices are very high and I do not mean expensive, I mean over priced. On and off I have gone there for 10 years. Approx 2 years ago Gus left and I believe his brother David now manages.. After many experiences when i felt I was "taken to the cleaners", I went yesterday for a a strap needing a screw: it was provided. I was about to leave shoes for heeling and although price was high, I thought fairly fair. But the bill inlcuded $8 for the screw!!!!. Forthwith I returned the screw and I left: never to return. . I went to Ace around the corne and secured the required screw for 11c. I suppose this is what i shold have done in the first place. Ths store used to be managed by Gus and he was very polite and attentive and I thought satisfactory. i believe now his brother ... Read more

Wed Oct 13 2004I have rarely encountered such rude and unaccommodating service. I needed a pair of boots altered, and called ahead to determine if they did that sort of work (yes), had evening hours (yes - until 7 I was told), and if I'd need an appointment (no). But when my husband and I arrived at the threadbare shop at 6:10 this evening, the shoemaker was out, and only a clerk who clearly could not help us was there. She said the shoemaker would be back at 6:30, so we left saying we'd be back. "At 6:30," she repeated as turned to go. But when we returned at 6:30, she was locking up to close. A fruitless conversation ensued, during which the clerk alternately seemed to understand, and then not understand, English. She had no suggestions, made no apology, and generally behaved as if she really wasn't interested in our business.
