I give San Antonio a good but not great rating. It's a lot more of a fun city to go to than Houston or Dallas, but low pay an lack of decent jobs don't help. The Hill Country is very scenic, and the town itself is quite historic.

San Antonio is alright. It has enough to do for only about 1 day but I really enjoyed the riverwalk which does have a very unique atmosphere and seeing the El Mercado really made me feel pretty close to Mexico. The Alamo although small is very cool and it is indeed one of the most historical and famous landmarks in the US. I stayed in the western outskirts of the city and I was amazed by how big and sprawling this city is. San Antonio has very good food (steak & Mexican in particular) and I did get a chance to mingle with the locals at a few bars, restaurants, and a conference I attended there. The people were very open, friendly, and accommodating and it is places where I have good memories of friendly people that rank high on my list therefore I would love to go back to Texas just for that reason. Another advantage of San Antonio is being only a stones throw away from Austin which is a very cool city.

Ozzy Osbourne was banned from this city for a decade for some kind of public urination at the Alamo.

The riverwalk was nice; enjoyed that.  Really enjoyed the missions.   But other than that, San Antonio was really a disappointment.  Oh, and the 106 degree temperature...oh my God...it was awful.  Simply awful.

Riverwalk is pretty cool. Been to San Antonio a few times, always fun. Is the Ripley's Museum still there?

These are my positives and negatives of San Antonio:Positives:1. Cost of living is low. In 2007, you can buy a nice home with decent square footage in the low $100's. But beware of the neighborhoods that build these new cookie-cutter tract homes and they get trashed out very fast. There's many wonderful older affordable,  established neighborhoods with a lot of character, one of which is Live Oak where I live2. Food galore. Best Tex Mex food comes from the smaller places, not those tourist counterfeits on the Riverwalk. Piedras Negras De Noche on 1-35 and Laredo is my favorite. Also recommended are La Fonda and El Jarro de Arturo.3. Historical significance. And no, I'm not talking about the Alamo; that was a white man's war, LOL. The missions on the south side were built as early as the 1700's as well as the San Fernando Cathedral4. Plenty of amusement parks to include Fiesta Texas, Sea World, Splashtown, and Schlitterbahn in nearby New Braunfels5. Spurs are the lifeblood of sports her... Read more

I'm from here so I can't say anything too bad about the place. The areas to the north of downtown are very nice, more affluent neighborhoods and partly in the Hill Country. The Theme Parks are OK. Some parts of the city, though are too run down. On New Year's Eve, one of the best fireworks display you will ever see as the populace set off their ILLEGAL fireworks, but city ordinances never stopped San Antonions from having fun . Oh, then there is the Spurs, top dog in the NBA. Scenic Dellview is an interesting spot, home of another Alamo, and a big freaking Wal-Mart!, (plus the library and a city pool, which is free!)

San Antonio is a good city. Lots of things to do...lots of history... The Riverwalk & the Alamo are a must for visitors. Everyone seemed to be pretty friendly there. I was a bit disappointed in the nightlife there. I expected the Riverwalk to be packed w/ an eclectic mix of people, but the Riverwalk was a ghost town after 10pm. There was a cool Irish piano bar on the Riverwalk that was fun (can't remember the name of it tho). San Antonio, or more so the Riverwalk, is a great romantic place for couples. It's a charming city really... Lots of unique shops downtown... Great architecture... Good food...

Been there where they played the first 2 games of the 1999 NBA Finals. Lotsa military bases. The Alamo was much smaller than you see on the movie screen. The Riverwalk was a joyous experience. The food was good too.

The Alamo is interesting, the Riverwalk is overrated. Some good restaurants, some not so good.

San Antonio is one of the best cities in the country to visit. The Alamo has an incredible aura about it. You can feel the history. The Riverwalk is great, plenty of shops and restaurants. The people of the city are very nice and make you feel welcome there.

San Antonio is probably the best city in all of Texas, but I can't say that for sure as I haven't been to them all. Alot of people told me how boring the Alamo was, but I really enjoyed it ! I could just feel the history in the air when I was there, I absolutely loved it. And the Riverwalk was totally awesome. I was also surprised by the genuine friendliness of the people of San Antonio, such nice people. I would definately go there again, a great city with great people. Texas should be proud...

San Antonio is alot of fun for older people, but if you're younger than 35 there is not much to do besides the riverwalk.
