Mon Mar 23 2009Read both really good & bad internet reviews about this place but Baltimore Mag 11 ranking convinced me to give it a try. My wife and I both thought it was one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in a long time. If you like innovative cuisine done well this is a place to try. I thought the wine list should have had a couple of less expensive options It appears the bad reviews might be from a group with an agenda The staff could not have been friendlier nor more efficient

Sun Mar 08 2009Very rushed service, with no time between courses. At these prices, a party of 8 should not be told to leave after less than 2 hours

Tue Feb 03 2009I would eat at salt again. Great atmosphere however parking was a bit difficult. Meal was great. Was about 75 dollars per couple.

Mon Oct 13 2008The duck fat fries are to die for. The menu changes frequently and is full of creative ideas. Last Friday I had the Cuban pork with goat cheese/sweet potato mashed potatoes and it was truly yummy. And the wine list is the best. My husband and I have been eating at this restaurant in our neighborhood twice a month for the past two years and have always been greeted warmly, had great service and really enjoyed the meals. Last winter they were picketed by foie gras protestors for a long time. Maybe some of the negativity in the previous review came from those folks. Otherwise, it's a mystery. They must have gone to a different restaurant...

Fri Sep 05 2008Reading some of the recent reviews on here, it seems like people have mistaken Salt for some other spot. I've never been disappointed with any of the menu choices ordered and I've done everything from an app and drinks, to some of the fancier entrees, to sharing a dessert or some fries at the bar. There is one thing I've noticed, some of the people coming in to Salt have a certain sense of entitlement as soon as they walk through the door. Salt is not a very big space. With maybe ten seats at the bar, five tables in the bar area and maybe another ten in the dining area - there's not much room to "hang out". But Salt is not a lounge, and people coming to Salt ARE coming for the food. That's why the barstools are usually taken up by singles or couples actually ordering more than drinks. I've been one of those people waiting to order some food at the bar while someone waiting for a table takes up space there, nursing one drink. I understand that they paid for that drink, but obviously the... Read more

Fri May 09 2008I have been to Salt no less than a dozen times over the last year and have been consistently disappointed with the end result of dishes that seem so promising in menu form. Why do I keep going back, you ask? Well, Baltimore is a bit of a culinary back water and it's in my 'hood. Though, after last night I will be less lazy, as I am never returning there. The food is usually of high quality, yet the dishes are without fail bland, lackluster and amateurish. BBQ pork cheeks with coleslaw of foie gras and sweet potato? Could have been amazing, but the meat was dry and tasteless and covered in clearly bottled BBQ sauce. Octopus salad? Very little octopus and certainly no pieces to sink your teeth into and the flavor was mediocre, at best. Even the cocktails disappoint: on a recent evening my dining companion ordered a "Painkiller," which was meant to be a concoction of Jamaican rum and fresh squeezed juice. It came in a pint glass and tasted like a sub par pina colada, causing us... Read more

Sun Mar 16 2008The hostess who we later found out to be the owner was extremely rude. A group of us had ordered food and drinks at the bar. After we had finished our food, couple of our other friends joined us later and ordered more drinks and food. The hostess basically told me (after I conveniently already paid them) that if I wasn't going to order anything else then I had to give up my bar stool even though I was with my friends who weren't finished with their drinks. This is not a way to treat paying customers. It totally ruined my dining experience and I will never go back there again.

Thu May 03 2007I finally tried SALT and I'm glad I did. The food was excellent! We had the duck fat fries (the truffle dip is to die for!), the cheese artichoke risotto cake which was so creamy and amazing and for our entrees we had the seared tuna and the mushroom ravioli. The tuna was perfect, we got it rare and it was super tender. The ravioli was good, but not my favorite out of everything we had. It could have had a little more flavor. We also got the creme brulee which was a perfect ending to the meal. Not too sweet and the crust on top tasted like marshmallows cooked over the fire. I must also recommend the pomegranate margarita martini. SO yummy! There was a bit of a wait, but not too bad and I'd probably say the parking sucks...but I live 2 blocks down and it was great to walk!

Mon Feb 26 2007I went to SALT last week, around 8 o'clock or so. I was greeted by a nice and beautiful person at the door who took my coat and led me to a free area of the bar. My friend and I had several rounds of drinks (mojitos and champagne coctail were great!) and then HAD to order the fried with multiple dipping sauces b/c the people at a table behind us ordered them and they smelled SO good! Tasted even better. the bartender was very friendly as well. the presentation was great - they came out in a big cone. I love that this place is on the smaller side and you have to "work" to get a table or at least have a reservation and show up on time. It makes the dining out experience that much more fun and gives it a trendy feel!

Thu Feb 22 2007I went to salt because I read the great review in the Baltimore Magazine. I am glad I went because the food was amazing. Our server was excellent and told us about the duck fat fries and the Tuna. Both were good choices. There was a little bit of wait but that is to be expected when you are eating in the Canton/Fells Point neighborhood. I would go back again and would reccomend everyone to try the hidden gem.

Sun Feb 04 2007I was in Baltimore meeting friends for the weekend and we decided to try Salt based on a friend's recommendation. We went to Salt on a Saturday night around 5:30 pm and were sat immediately. Our appetizer the Crab and Avocado Napolean was a fantastic start to a wonderful dinner. The fries served with aioli were excellent.....you definitely can't eat just one fry. For dinner I ordered the Veal Cheeks and I enjoyed it so much I cleared my plate. I would definitely recommend this restaurant...the food is amazing!!!!!!!!

Fri Jan 12 2007Notice to all: I had reserved a table for 6 and was told that "I had to be in the restaurant by 6:00PM or they would give my table away" (what a way to begin my experence) Well ,we got there at 6:00PM and told that the table was not ready and if we could have a drink at the bar they would call us when it was ready. Well after 15minutes we were asked to have a seat. The only trick was that ALL of us had to be seated. I had two friends coming from Annapolis and they got caught in Stadium traffic and were trying their darndest to get to the other side of town. Well, the lady that proabley has never been in the business, but proabley hired because she was a friend of someone told us we could not have the table now because the party was not compleet. In disbelief, I challenged that this was the crazyest thing I have ever heard of. She turned it into an all out war right in the middle of the dining room. How embaressing for her and the other guests sitting around the dining room. As we were... Read more

Sat Dec 16 2006Salt is a fun place to dine with a group of friends. They offer several creative coctails of the day but the bar is small and crowded. Be sure to make a reservation! The dinners are creative but lack flavor. I do suggest the Frites - they are yummy. Salt is better for the atmosphere and drinks than the food. In summary SALT is a New York wanna be.
