Fri Aug 15 2008Directions did not come in the box, so I had to print them off the internet. Directions were somewhat confusing. Gate is not really easy to open with one hand. I have this gate to blocks steps on my deck. It serves its purpose.

Mon Jul 28 2008We bought this as a replacement for a gate my 4 year old couldn't open and close- the baby (11 months) kept getting out and even fell down the stairs once. Whew, this one is so much better! It looks much nicer and feels tons sturdier than the plastic ones and is not too hard for my 4 year old to open. She's happy, we're happy, the baby is happy (unless we're on the opposite side) :) We were able to mount it on the bannister on both sides. We just put a decorative molding on one side to attach the latch to. Only complaint is the supports that hold the hinges to the wall/bannister/whatever are plastic and I'm afraid they might not hold up- our 4 year old likes to hang on the gate and swing, which hopefully will stop soon. One of the consumer pictures I saw showed a different latch than what we have, so be careful.

Fri Jul 25 2008This was the only gate that I found that met the needs we had for a top and bottom of the stairs gate. I've been very happy with the functioning of the gate and its looks. Based on other reviews I was very meticulous with following the instructions. I found the instructions to be descriptive enough with the inclusion of the pictures. It would have been nice if the pictures were on the same page as the instruction text. I imagine it was done that way so that the pictures didn't have to be reprinted for each language. I really like the engineering of the gate. It's metal and there's good attention to detail on the mounting points. It works well and it's relatively simple. I chose to purchase the stair mounting kit and wall mounting kit to make it as sturdy as possible. The problem was with the manufacturing quality and its what I've come to expect from products made in India. I ended up going back to the store (good thing I didn't purchase online), because one of the thr... Read more

Sun Jun 29 2008We went through 4 plastic gates in our kitchen doorway before we broke down and bought this one. All those plastic ones are too heavy for the hardware that comes with them and the hinges end up breaking! This lightweight, attractive, and easy to install gate keeps the baby and the dogs out of the kitchen whie letting the cats IN for access to their food & litterbox (I have it installed 4 1/2 inches up from the floor. The baby figured out how to crawl under it when it was 6 inches up so we had to lower it.) It is fantastic and I am back to Amazon to buy another for the top of the stairs. Easy for guests (and sleep-deprived parents) to figure out how to use.

Sat May 24 2008I researched top-of-stair gates for months and the thing I realized was that every gate got mixed reviews at best. Just when I thought I had made a decision, I would come across a review that slammed the product for one reason or another. Because of all of the mixed reviews that I came across, I purchased a membership to Consumer Reports. This gate was ranked # 2 gate for top of stairs. From reviews I read on-line, the gate that they gave the top award to had problems with the knob breaking in the locked position. In the end, I decided to go with this gate and I am so glad that I did! We purchased 2, 1 for the top and 1 for the bottom of our stairs. They've been installed for about a month and we are extremely pleased. We have metal railings so my Dad, who is a wood-worker, made some wooden surrounds for the balisters. The gates are super easy to open & close, even when I'm carrying my 1 year old daughter. No one in town had this gate, so we bought it site unseen. It is so refreshing t... Read more
