Saab 9-3

About to part with my 9-3 at the end of it's four year lease and I'm sorry to see it go. I have been very happy with this car and love it's "Saab eccentricities". Only had a few problems but the car has never left me stranded. A/C display and Saab Info Display (SID) were replaced under warranty. Also had a slow leak in the power steering pump which was also replaced. I've been approached several times by strangers to ask me about the car, how did I like it, etc. Yup, it has torque steer under hard acceleration from a stop, but I hear that's been resolved in the newer models. On the open road, this car flies! Fantastic passing power, agility, etc. Lots of cargo space too. Too bad they don't have a hatch in the new models. I could fit a refrigerator in mine.

This car was a lease. I have really enjoyed drivingit for the past three years. Torque steer is resolved by new tires, i got Kumho Ecstas. No major problems SO FAR. That is why I will turn this car in. I took it to the dealer with 50,412 miles on it for the 50k check up. I said "please check out the transmission, it is a little sticky." They said that I needed a new transmission for $4K. The warranty was not valid, I had more than 50K miles on it and I would have to pay for it. PULEEZE!!!! I told them fix it now or fix it in three months. Saab refused to budge. Both Saab and this dealer have lost a customer for life.

A mediocre vehicle that doesn't keep up with its competitors, in more ways than one. Supremely comfortable, except for the details: the cupholders are flimsy and counterintuitive, the armrest is non-existant, but the steering wheel is in a good position and the chairs are perfect. Turbo lag is a large issue, becuase if you need to avoid an accident, you usually don't have the power you need until the debacle has passed. You can get used to that, though, and learn to anticipate throttle movements. Handling also leaves something to be desired. With a Front wheel drive setup and a sub-par 62/38 front rear weight distribution, it understeers like no other. Plus, the front wheel drive coupled with the 205 horsepower (worse with 235 Viggen) creates torque-steer so pronounced it'll throw you off the road if you aren't prepared (torque steer is when the wheels turn when power is applied on a bumpy road, causing the car to turn unexpectedly). What a peice of junk. My friend has one and when he wants to go on a long drive and can't afford to risk breaking down, he takes my car. the turbo lag is almost 3 secs, by that point you don't need it any more. The steering is a joke and it is not very pretty. The inside is comfortable but in the last 3 months my friend has cracked his axel, steering column and had transmission problems. For the money you can buy a lot better.

Had Problems with the AC and car overheating 3 times. Also the battery went dead after 1 year. Very poor customer service at the corporate level. Even though I had these problems SAAB would do absolutely nothing for me. Sold the car after 1.5 years for a Land Rover.

Lots of power and great handling, but cramped leg space, front and back, and uncomfortable headrest design. Sold mine after one year for an Audi.

I have enjoyed driving this car over the past year, however, I have had some problems. The air conditioning display had to be replaced within 8 months of owning it and the date display on the dash has defaulted to the wrong date(I don't think there is a way to manually change it). Overall, a good car, though...
