Rumours (Fleetwood Mac)

I dont listen to Fleetwood Mac much anymore, but this is their best album hands down. When this album was made the band was starting to have problems due to romantic relationships between band members. That is what the hit "Go Your Own Way" was based on. Whenever i listen to this album i play Second Hand News over, and over again.

Brilliant. The best this band ever did, and one of the best ever.

Still play it after all these years.

There are TWO Fleetwood Macs one is the Fleetwood Mac founded By Peter Green who played some of the best blues and Rock & Roll Guitar and then there is the Soap Opera version which is only good if you are with your girl.

Soft-off mainstream pop garbage. Featuring clumsy ol' Mick, predictable Lindsay and menstrual Stevie. The album sounded like audio formica then, sounds like elevator music today. The songs have all the depth of a shot glass, all the emotional maturity of an autistic. This album was released in 1976, just a few months before the first mass-market records of punk rock and new wave hit the stores. This development, of course, made Rumours immediately dated, retro, old hat, corny and square. Interesting that there was no significant follow-up record to this release, which indicates this encarnation of FM shot its bolt entirely in less than 12 tracks. This is Bill and Hillary Clinton's favorite rock record, which tells you plenty.

Wow! Lot's of great Fleetwood Mac stuff on this one. Truly a classic album.

How can some of you so-called music fans say this album is overrated? It is one of the top three selling albums in history, by ANYONE! Platinum more than 20 times! You show your ignorance with your thoughtless quotes.

Transparent pop. Stevie is just a goddess.

Dreams and Don't Stop are classics.

I always thought this album was a over rated as was the band. A few catchy tunes does not make a great cd.

I still love hearing this album--every track sounds as fresh as they did in '77. The recent remaster includes Silver Springs, which was the B side of the Dreams single and a highlight of their 1997 reunion tour (the live version was pulled as a single). I recommend the remaster even if you already have the original pressing. Intraband dysfunction is well-known by now but it produced some of the best rock and pop recordings of the '70s. I still rank Tusk as the best Fleetwood Mac record, but this one comes very close.

This is a wonderful album, from the gorgeous pop of Dreams to the more complex sounds of The Chain and Gold Dust Woman. I love You Make Loving Fun too. I never tire of this record and is a must for any collection. Musically, this band are outstanding and this shows in tracks such as Go Your Own Way. The latter half of Gold Dust Woman is a great way to finish this record and is awesome.

I preferred the Mac when they were a rootsy blues band but there's some pretty good stuff here, mostly those tracks featuring some fine and tasteful guitar playing like 'Go you own way', 'Dont stop', 'Never going back again' and 'Second hand news'. Not too bothered with most of the Nicks and McVie numbers though. Somewhat insipid.

Fleetwood Mac's most popular album, Rumours, completely epitomizes their style. There's lots of good stuff in here. Unfortunately, there are a couple that I'm not crazy about. For the most part, Lindsey Buckingham's songs are guitar-centric, very good songs. I find I enjoy these most. Stevie Nicks' mystical reveries are very good as well, if not a little feminine. Christine McVie's songs are, to me, downright annoying. I hate her cheery pop-style. Regardless of what I think, however, this album is considered the greatest break-up album of all time, and with good reason. While some of the songs seem very cheery, you have to really pay attention to the lyrics to realize just how bitter they are, especially in the Nicks and Buckingham songs. The absolute highlight of the album is The Chain, written by all five bandmembers. It is very dramatic, and a good rock song. It sums up the basic premise of the album. Released in 1977, Rumours brought Fleetwood Mac fame and fortune; however, the band had been around for some time as a blues-rock band. (One notable song from that era was Oh Well.) The band's sound changed dramatically with the exodus of some members and the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks for the 1975 predecessor to Rumours (named Fleetwood Mac). I preferred Fleetwood Mac over Rumours, but the two really go hand in hand in anyone's collection. As usual, my personal preference is for the Buckingham songs (ie Second Hand News, Never Going Back Again, and Go Your Own Way) though the more popular songs were by Nicks and McVie (ie Dreams and Don't Stop). This release also contains The Chain, You Make Loving Fun, and Gold Dust Woman. While the lesser tracks tend to pale in comparison to the monster tracks, the Rumours is strong throughout.

Fantastic album any way you look at it. Stevie Nicks' Dreams, and Christine McVie's haunting Songbird make the album worthwhile all by themselves, but there are several other gems on this one. Go Your Own Way, Never Going Back Again, and You Make Loving Fun are all superb song-craft. No wonder it sold a zillion copies.

Very impressive guitar riffs from Buckingham. Stevie Nicks' voice is in top form. The songs still sound good today. I'm only 30 years old but "Go Your Own Way" has been a longtime favorite since kindergarden.

This band is fairly predictable and a little overrated, but they have good catchy songs.

This album was pretty good in most places but a little too mellow and sweet for my taste. Too bad Fleetwood Mac can't rock!

I can't believe this album is number one on the list--ridiculous. I mean, I admit that Stevie was pretty damn sexy in the 70s, but that does not change the fact that this band sucks. For crying out loud, these guys are almost on the same level as another group of 70s rejects: The Bee Gees. Ridiculous!

Great music! Another of the few albums I can listen to without skipping songs I don't like.It's almost like a greatest hits album.

Simply the greatest Rock and Roll album of all time.

Fleetwood Mac started out great. I don't recall the album I initially bought in 1972, but by the time Rumors came out it was geared to 12-year-olds and older. A commercial pop sound. Their music and their message was predictable.

I can listen to this album in any mood. The band obviously has talent but I think it shines on this album. I believe most of the band's popular tracks are on this album, making it practically a greatest hits album.

Great music to get it on to. Right up there with Marvin Gaye and Al Greene. Every song on the album is chill as hell, even if you just want to relax on a Friday night, especially with a loved one.

Proof positive that accessibility counts. Everybody likes this recording and they should. It's a very good one. It's solid from beginning to end and achieves a couple moments of true brilliance, but the number one choice as best CD of all time? I wouldn't go that far. Other efforts are just as or nearly as solid and reach more breath taking highs more often. Should definitely be on the list but not in first place. I'm giving it a four mostly because I think this position is inflated. Screwy I know, but there you have it.

This is a good Fleetwood Mac disc, however, my personal favorite is the Dance. If there were one Fleetwood Mac disc, I would recommend everyone had, it would be the Dance. It is a great live album reunion, and has a great list of songs.

Fleetwood Mac rules! The rumors album rocked. They are creative and I think they have many more years of making music together. Hanson and Fleetwood Mac kick ass!

The CD is good to pop in on a long car ride or when you are just chillin' at home. It has some beautifully written songs and wonderful lyrics. It's a long CD that's good all the way through so it's worth the extra dime!

Fleetwood Mac is an awesome band. Their music is great, and after all these years, there are still people who love their music.

Fleetwood Mac is perhaps one of my favorite bands.

I think this is a great CD. I saw the VH1 story behind Fleetwood mac and it was so fascinating as to what went on behind the scenes. This album is basically about how everyone is sleeping with everyone, and everyone is hurting. It is really good though. It gives the album so much more meaning.

When I think of the ultimate pop-music CD, this and Sgt. Pepper's are the two that come to mind first. Almost every song on Rumours is a classic. I saw a show recently on the turmoil going on inside Fleetwood Mac while they were recording this CD, and it blows me away that they were able to produce this kind of music in that environment. It's a shame our impression of Fleetwood Mac has been tainted by their annoying reunion a few years ago.

Rumours is my favorite classic rock album because it combines catchy tunes with brilliant instrumentations. The harmonies are crystal clear, the melodies are intelligent, and Rumours proves Fleetwood macs genius.
