As far as reviews go, it's a far better site than IMBD. While it has its share of illiterate morons, they are more than balanced by articulate professionals and equally articulate amateurs.

I don't spend a lot of time on it but mainly because I haven't ever found the information that useful. The reviews are from a community of newspaper and electronic media film critics but they seem to be indescriminate in their selection of reviewers. I also find the rating system to be a bit of a crap shoot, relying on the various ratings scales from the source media and converting it to some sort of common rating. The public reviews are typical of general web forms, and frankly I find this site way better for movie reviews than most others. Granted I know most of the reviewers and their tastes so I tend to focus on the comments of trusted colleagues.

Sites like this and Metacritic pull from too many sources, in my opinion, but Rotten Tomatoes seems to be the worst offender of the two. Apologies to (for example) Jolene Mendez, writer for Entertainment Spectrum whose favorites seem to include romantic comedies and Sandra Bullock films, but I really don't give a shit what you think about film, and it's a little absurd that your review can counteract one from Ebert, Scott or Lane. I find it vastly more efficient to read individual reviews from professional critics I tend to agree with for new releases, and to visit RIA for suggestions on what to put in my Netflix queue.

I think it is an ok site to go to look for movie reviews. I like that you can see all the professional reviews together and then you can see the consensus of the public on the site. It is quick so that you can see whether it is getting a good tomato or a rotten one. Really though I look at other sources to really judge a movie. Recently if you have been reviewing movies yourself on the site it went through a change. I was just writing on there so there was no money involved. You could have your own blog. They had on that it was site maintenance. I hadn't been using it much lately but I was surprised. I found that they took all the profile info off and you would have to type it all over. They also have instigated an up or down method for rating all of your personal entries. It seems a little overboard and intrusive to me. I liked the fact that I could control the comments and I needed to. I liked the fact that I could rate things the way that I wanted to. I will probably stop the blog... Read more

A great site for checking out reviews. Of course, you'll need experience with the site to learn what kind of movies you'll most likely enjoy even if the reviews are less than stellar. Many decent comedies tend to be rated between 40-60%. However, within the last few years the site has gotten slower and slower, with more popups and ads crammed into every page. I prefer imdb more to avoid all the in-your-face ads. They're really turning off alot of viewers. They need to go back to a faster site and less intrusive ads. If you don't respect your target audience, they'll stop respecting you.

No, the rating system is not perfect.  But it's still the best way to get a feel for the overall consensus of a movie.  At the very least, I don't see movies that received below 70% on the tomatometer.

Yeah, it's a bad website. There are too many ads, and the rating system is dubious, really. They're listing reviews that give 2 1/2 stars out of 4 into the fresh ratings for movies. I'm sorry, I don't pay to see 2 1/2 star movies in the theater. Yes, it's a bit deceptive, I won't trust this site as much anymore...

The best movie site I've come across. It is my go to site. The ads are getting a bit annoying though.

This is the first place I go to when I want to know if a movie sucks or not. Then I go to imdb to get a second opinion and read cast info ect.

Far and away the best movie site. Gives you a percentage based on how many critics approved or disapproved of a movie, and also a consensus of their opinions. It's a lot of fun to check out reviews of terrible films in your free time.

Fun site and funny concept. Did you know that some of the reviews we write here sometimes show up there? Take a look sometime.

The best website for movie fans period. You can search movies by title, actor, or director. You can research a actor or director's career and browse thousands of reviews from all over the country. It has ads that are a little annoying, but the content more than makes up for it. One of the top 10 websites I have ever seen.

A pretty fun site primarily because of its multiple links to well written movie reviews. Very enjoyable and informative.

Rotten Tomatoes is great because for each movie, it collates reviews written by professional movie critics. I know popular opinion and box office sales don't always match the opinion of film critics, but critics have seen a lot of movies, they know a lot about movies, and they are likely to know more about what they are looking at, for example: Is this movie so and so's most convincing or original work? Is there another movie in this genre that does a better job of entertaining? Is this writer a formulaic one-trick pony or is this new script really original? I don't think it ever hurts to read critics' thoughtful and informed opinions before spending precious time and money viewing a movie.

Not as good as imdb - mostly because of the graphics. It seems to run slower than imdb. However, Cream of the Crop feature is terrific.

An informative and fun site that groups the reviews of many of the top movie critics. Each movie features the reviews, a synopsis, cast list, a discussion board and some even have trailers you can download. Also lists movies that are currently released, and ones that are coming soon. There is even reviews of DVD's, video games and a tomatoepicker which will pick the best movies in whatever genre or subgenre you desire. Once you get used to the site, it's easy to navigate.
