He was ok as a child actor. He was Opie right? I used to wonder how any kid could be so silly. The amusement is in seeing Aunt Bea tell him what to do. He is a director now and I await all of his films. Or ok that might be happening but not really. I think I may have heard someone addressing him in Chicago still as being "Opie" which was fairly funny.

How astonishing that a thoroughly bland and mediocre child actor could grow up to be a thoroughly bland and mediocre director.

Ron Howard's movies and his public reputation would have benefitted greatly had he followed the typical Child Actor career path of experiencing a period of wreckless living and run-ins with the law.

As a young actor, he was one of the best, but I can't say I care too much for his recent directing jobs.

Opie Taylor(Ronny Howard) was a great boy. He saved his money to buy his girlfriend a coat and made his father eat crow. He got himself fired so that another boy would get the job because that boy needed the money to help his parents pay bills. If I ever have a son, I hope that he's like Opie.

One of my all-time favorite child actors and he's a good director now.

He was pretty good and he is an even greater director- I think his brother should get MUCH more credit than he has though because he has been in more movies than Ron was- always in a supporting role never getting any credit. I applaud Ron for putting his brother to work in most of his movies, but the brother has had other roles outside of the power of Ron.

You'd never thought "Opie" would grow up to be Ron Howard. A fine director.

A great child actor that was still making it in the teen/early adult years and now has matured into one of the most successful directors around. I guess its safe to say that he is the true success story for a child actor.

He wound up making a much bigger mark as a director than as an actor. I still like him on the Andy Griffith show though!

A great child actor. But more than that he's probably the best childhood actor who made good. Went from Opie on the Andy Griffith show to Richie Cunningham in Happy Days. He also had a role in the original Music Man. You would have to be living on another planet not to know how his career as a director has turned out.

Absoulutely adorable as a child. And a heck of a little actor. Great in The Music Man, and as Opie! Ugly as A** adult. Super talented director. I'm a big fan of his.

absolute talent from the beginning. he managed to show that you can continue to be a success even if you began in the industry as a child. he is one of the few that make it. he should be admired for his successes.

When isn't Ron Howard going to be good? Lovable whether he was Opie, or Richie, or directing great movies like Apollo 13. One of the truly genuine good guys in entertainment today.

Great child actor, but an even better filmmaker. Far and Away, Backdraft, Apollo 13, Ransom, and A Beautiful Mind are all excellent movies.

A good kid actor he was pretty convincing. He had a likability to him. he was good as Opie in the Andy Griffith show. he was fine in Happy days as a teen and young adult. He sure has proven himself as a talented director in his adult years.

It seems as if everyone grew up with Ronny Howard. He portrayed Opie Taylor just as a he was supposed too a good kid without him being too aww shucks or cute, dumb, naieve or just annoying. He was also in the great musical The Music Man. In it he plays a kid with a speech impediment, and although he goes overboard with the lisping, Howard still pulls off the charm.
