This is almost a perfect spirit. I spent many years in the wine field with a specialty in Cabs. The complexity of the wines always led to the pallet being infiltrated by exciting new discoveries. Rum in the high caliber are similar to a fine single malt whisky. This Rum is a Solera 23. Solera method is the method of taking a quality rum, say 23 years old, and blending it with younger wines to accentuate the flavor. This also helps the aging process of the younger rum. If you looking for a run that is a solid year, find a single barrel rum. I thoroughly enjoyed the nose on this rum, the scent of wood and the undertone of a honey or caramel. Just plays a melody on the tongue. The smoothness could be better if it were a pure 23 year rum, but this is what I expect from a blend. the flavor lingers like an undertone of a rich expresso. Lingers in the back. It is kind of hard to ignore the obvious congac qualities of this spirit. Even a swirl of the glass reveals thick legs that... Read more

Nectar of the gods! Simply the greatest Rum I have ever had. Similar to Zaya or CM Private Stock, its smoother and lil spicer. Not within my budget but now my tastebuds demand this aged spiced rum. I plan to try the Ron Zacapa Centenario XO rum then end my life.

Although rum is not necessarily my favorite beverage I find Zacapa to be in a class by itself. It is one of my favorite beverages, either straight or combined.

I was introduced to this rum at a cigar event. Not a typical rum. Much more refined and has more depth than most. A must for rum entusiasts.

This is perhaps the best rum that I have had. It is just a touch sweet imho but I still give it 5 stars because I have had none better.

I was looking for something special for a gathering where I knew a lot of people would be bringing various bottles of single malt scotch (which I mostly dislike.) I sampled this as well as the Zacapa 15 year old rum at the store. The latter had more in the way of aroma, and was darn good but did have a bite to it. The 23year old was sweet, smooth, and felt like velvet on the tongue. I bought the bottle and it was the first one emptied. The looks of surprised happiness of those who tried it were worth every bit of the $40 I paid for it. This is something to share with those you love or at least like a lot after a good meal. Please don't mix it with cola. Heavy cream is more what I'd suggest.
