Sweet, I love the way this movie is done and it also has my boy Jamie Kennedy in it so it definently rocks.

Truly dramatic and a bit corny. The dialogue did not fit in the modern day scene and it destroyed my love for the Shakespearian work. Leo's just not an impressive actor and I don't know what it is about him. I could never understand why many women thought he was/is attractive. The only thing I like about the movie is where Romeo and Tybalt battle. I think Leguizamo is a stunning actor in this movie. His costumes are amazing.

This is easily the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. I didn't mind the IDEA of making a modern Romeo and Juliet, but this movie bombed it badily. Who had the stupid idea of using the old language with the modern movie? Nothing from this movie can be saved except to say that it was crap.

I rewatched this movie about a year ago, and couldn't get past Leo's terrible 'acting'. But when I was a teen, I absolutely loved it, so I'll rate from that perspective, but anyone older than 16 should probably stay away from this movie.

A TRUE INTERPRETATION! SHAKESPEARE WOULD BE PROUD!

People either love it or hate it and that's because it strikes a chord. This movie had some of the best costume and set design I've ever seen. I sure hope they had a bunch of fire extinguishers for the vault scene. The soundtrack was also incredible and I'm still trying to find a recording of the opera singing in the death scene. Though it's violent, it's also sharp, exhilarating and a blow to the senses. This is one movie where I thought DiCaprio did some decent acting, once you get past his teen idol facade. Luhrman went out on a limb with this one and I thought he stayed very true to the ambiance that Shakespeare created. I'm sure it shocked some, but it's just so damn creative!

Baz Luhrman does have a future as a director. Yes, there are parts of this movie that are well-shot. But the actors are clearly over their heads with the Shakespearean text. Why does everybody yell through this movie? Why does every waking moment have to be filled with blaring uber-cool "soundrack music?" The fast cuts and quick scene shifts were supposed to create an exciting atmosphere but I thought it made the story more complicated than it had to be. However, I am pleased that the director though enough of shakespeare to make this film. Why did he have to turn it into a long music video? This movie had some good scenes but I expected better.

Every year I see this film at least once and it never fails to take my breath away. It is an absolutely wonderful film, flaws and all. Baz Luhrmann has to take credit for the vision that he had and the way he executed it. It was pure genius. But the bulk of my appreciation and admiration goes to Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes were simply riveting as the two star-crossed lovers. Never have I seen such esquisite chemistry between two leads, a chemistry that was so vital to the story and it was there BIG time. On their own, they were pretty great but together they are dynamite. Can't wait till the next time I watch it again.

I think this was an interesting presentation, and some scenes, like the one in the crypt and with the fish tank, were really beautiful. Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes were both really excellent, but the other actors weren't very good.

Romeo and Juilet was a great Shakespere story that people read and loved, but after seeing the film, I have different feeling for the story. If you try and put Leonardo Dicaprio is that kind of role, you know what kind of movie you are going to have.

Romeo and Juliet was a movie created by Baz Luhrman. Although this movie didn't agree with all of Shakespeare's original play--Romeo and Juliet, it did have several good points. One such point was the vows exchanged in the pool. Water is the sign of life and the scene in the pool supported this. I also liked how he created their costumes to match who they really were in the movie. Such as Juliet, who was really an angel to all, and Paris, a guy that represented what everyone wanted to be. This movie wasn't the very best Romeo and Juliet, but it wasn't the worst. One last thing that I liked about this movie was the way the ending. It made the movie more ironic and dramatic. Instead of having Juliet wake up to find Romeo dead, and eventually kill herself, she woke up all happy and then turned sad as she found out what Romeo had just done. The music also added a nice touch!

Baz Luhrmann did a great job with keeping the script to the original play, and interpreting the content as well. The camera work and music combined with Shakespeare's words were fantastic. It has been increasingly popular to rework Shakespeare's plays in films (10 Things I Hate About You, Hamlet etc) Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes act out the starcrossed lovers very well, there definately was an acting spark between the two. Pete Postlewhaite was outstanding as Friar Brown and the tattoo of the cross on his back was a great touch. Hollywood can be good at producing movies with merit, and this is one of them.

The best interpretation I've seen of the Shakepearean tragedy. The actors make you feel emotionally connected. The lessons learned from this movie are clearly portrayed. A sad story that shows the emotions of forbidden love.

I didn't like this movie because it took away from the essence of the original. Although it gave a modern perspective, it seemed as if they were trying to mix today's behaviour with ancient language.

It was a terrible movie because it took away the natural essence of the real Romeo & Juliet production. The actors did not perform well.

A modern version of this classic using the original words couldn't have been done better. It was edgy, violent, sappy and dramatic. If Shakespeare was still alive, he'd approve of the updated story. The movie brings the story home in a way we can relate to without losing any meaning.

It is not as emotional as it should be. The actor is handsome. It think that the old version is better than this new one. Too much modern stuff destroy's the aesthetic feeling of this wonderful legend.

I think this is an excellent remake of the original Romeo and Juliet. It had it's similarities of the original movie but it brought out the recent world.

DiCaprio acts a real Romeo who contrats perfectly well with all the violence, hatred and the exhuberantly burning in colours and some even grotesque scenery. The director was a genius capturing the esence of the story. And a genuis at casting, too. Shakespeare would have loved it! The best R&J I have ever seen.

This movie sucked!! I watched it because my daughter loves it, but I just thought it was terrible. Partly because I can't follow Shakespeare quite that quickly and partly because Shakespeare's version was a love story- this version was a story about gangs.

The remake of this movie made it easier to understand the original movie. Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio have always been good actors. The movie was more action than love and it makes you feel the character's feelings.

This movie is so beautiful. The settings are great. The way they made it into a modern version was an excellent twist. Romeo on acid was cool. It is a beautiful love story that can be understood by all.

In a 1996 poll by The San Francisco Chronicle of the year's worst movies, Romeo and Juliet was defined as "joyless" and "dark". But then, what do you expect from a Shakespearean tragedy? I think you really need to be experienced with the almost archaic styles of the three major types of Shakespeare's plays(comedy, tragedy, and history) in order to fully understand it, or even like it. The juxtaposition if the ordinarily circa 1500's play with a modern setting was a clever touch though.

Most modern adaptations of Shakespeare's work tend to lose its appeal. But Romeo and Juliet keeps the true meaning of Shakespeare alive in the movie.

I gave this movie a 3 because it was obviously a movie made for Hollywood and not neccessarily for truth, cinematic, or theatrical value. As always, the actor who plays Mercucio is good, which is all I can say is really good about the movie.

Romeo and Juliet was a good movie. The story was very similar to the play. DiCaprio was good in acting and keeping it real according to the script. The overall presentation of the movie was good because it kept to the play but made it modern.

A 4 has to be given to this movie because the whole "up to date" thing just didn't work out for this old movie. Otherwise, DiCaprio put on a great movie along with Danes.

The acting in this movie was beyond exceptional, some of the best I have ever seen. Leonardo Dicaprio was born to play Romeo, he made the myth real.

I give this film five stars mainly for the acting (especially on the part of the wonderfully talented young Leo DiCaprio) and the art direction. The two young leads are so alive and their passion for one another seems so real. Watch out for the two young lead actors because they are the ones that truly make this film what it is.

Strange version of this classic play, but when we've first got used to it, it's very romantic with great acting from both gender! :o)
