Although it was charming, The Roman Holiday was not meant to be a film to deliver any important messages. Lighthearted, it may even be considered funny in a few scenes but I gather that time has changed, the funny scenes in this movie seem rather cheesy now. Hepburn was made famous by this film, but this really wasn't her best. Gregory Peck wasn't usually the best as a comedian, but he did a satisfiable job in this movie. I liked the ending, the no real ending ending that was just about the only realistic part of the film.

I though Peck and Hepburn were not that well matched although both delivered fine performances.  An entertaining film and the scenery is a big part of the overall effect on the viewer.

Great, wonderful, fabulous movie. It's hard to believe that this was Hepburn's first professional role ever, but it was. She won an Oscar for best actress and it was certainly deserved. Greggory Peck was wonderful in his role of the first unsympathetic than the in love reporter. The ending was it had to be. As much as we would love for the handsome Peck and lovely Hepburn to be together, alas, they cannot. She is a princess and he is a lowly reporter, it would just never work. It was very gratifying to see Princess Anne stand up for herself a little after her excursion. Bottom line: great, classic movie with two terrific actors

Audrey Hepburn is perfect as the unhappy princess who just wants to be a regular person. she escapes while visiting in Rome. and meets a reporter played by Gregory Peck. At first after finding out who she is he tells her he will take her on a tour of Rome with the intention of getting pictures and writing an article.by the end he finds he loves her and does not do the report. at the very end he sees her at the embasssy where she had to go back. sad because as much as the audience would like for them to get together we know they cannot. good movie.

Roman Holiday is my favorite Audrey Hepburn film, although her best performance was in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Audrey Hepburn is one of the best actresses ever and this, her first movie, certainly doesn't disprove that. She is electrifying with Gregory Peck and the scenes with them are charming and funny. The ending is perfect and none other would have done as good.

MMM-MMM good. That is what Audrey Hepburn is in this film. She is at her finest in this mix of comedy and drama which co-stars the equally as talented Gregory Peck. The story never drags and the 2 stars ignite enough fire to light up New York City for days. Definitely see this classic.

This may be my favorite movie of all time. It's a charming tale of an unhappy princess(Audrey Hepburn, in her first role ever.) who escapes out into BEAUTIFUL Italy. In her traversing about Rome, she meets up with a charming (and so handsome) reporter, played perfectly by Gregory Peck (who, along with Burt Lancaster may be one of the most handsome actors ever). In their time spent together, they begin to fall in love. Amongst all of this, Gregory has to battle his guilt over taking pictures of the princess (who doesn't reveal herself to him..but he finds out and plans to write an article about her escape.) and his growing feelings for her. She goes back to her position eventually, but that doesn't ruin the romance of the film..it just adds a bittersweet element. The scenes with Gregory and Audrey seeing the sights are so enchanting, not to mention hilarious. This amusing, emotional tale is most defiently worth watching.

Beautiful scenery, beautiful cast. Sweet story of a princess seeing the real world from a commoner's eyes for the first time.

Roman Holiday is a harmless classic on the verge of being classified a comedy. It is the story of a princess who, unhappy with her present life, decides to "try out" the rest of the world. An excellent entertainer!

One of my favorite movies because it's set in Bella Otalia. Also, the two main characters being, Hepburn and Peck perfectly fit the stereotype of Americans in Europe in the fifties. The movie shows several famous Roman buildings and monuments and gives a little insight into the life of Europe after the war.
