Fri Oct 17 2008I've only read one or 2 of his books, and they didn't inspire me to search out other ones. He's not a bad writer, per se, but the books I read, as I remember them, had a tendency to drag on and the plots never seemed to work for me, and never worked up to a dramatically satsifying conclusion. OK author, but with so many better ones out there, why waste your time?

Mon Oct 02 2006the first book that i read was darkness, tell us. i thought it was absolutly amazing! i now have read the midnight tour, beast house, the cellar and blood games. i cannot put these books down! i am 16 nearly 17 and i just love Richard Laymon's style. Every character has some kind of flair. He is definatly my favourite author

Sat Aug 26 2006After going through my Stephen King phase and attempting to find some book/author who appealed to me more I stumbled across a book called "Among The Missing" by Laymon in a used bookstore and decided to check it out. It was an alright book, it was like nothing I'd read before because it just went right into the story and kept me hooked without a lot of bullcrap. I decided to check out another book by Laymon and ordered two, "Come Out Tonight" and "Endless Night". After reading "Come Out Tonight" I knew Laymon was my cure for mediocre horror. I've never read and enjoyed a book more than Laymon's books. My favorite, and a recommendation to all Laymon fans or someone wanting to check out a Laymon book, is "One Rainy Night". It combines so much of classic horror and the graphic violence/gore/sex with a good plot that it really saddens you when you finish it. My only regret is that I didn't find Richard Laymon until after he had passed away. I've yet to find anyone who can... Read more

Fri Aug 04 2006i cannot believe the crap this guy spouts. sex and death sex and death sex and death. i find it offensive all the idiots who have elevated the guy to serious writer status with their malnourished intellects. Evidently you wouldn't know a good book if it smashed your brains out.

Fri Nov 15 2002I read Bite a couple of year's ago. Bite was a good book but it left me wanting more. Around a month ago I seen another book by Laymon, so I picked it up and it is very possibly one of the best book I have ever read. Definatly the best in a long while. So check out Night in the lonesome october. Tou won't be let down. I would also like to add that I was very sadened by the new's that Laymon had passed away when I started reaserching him.

Sat Dec 29 20015 stars doesn't do him justice. He was the best in his genre... May he rest in peace. I would recommend reading the Beast House Chronicles as a starting series.

Sun Sep 30 2001Just found out that the man passed away this year. totally gutted, what a talent. Without doubt the best author of his genre. the first book i read was alarmus and have been hooked ever since. Only the great stephen king ever came close and along way off he was.

Wed Feb 21 2001Five stars aren't enough! There never has been anyone to match Richard Laymon and there never will be. I started with Dark Mountain when I was 16 and 8 years later I just can't get enough. If I was asked to rate Dick out of 10, I would give him a 100. Through his bookS he WILL live FOREVER!!!

Tue Feb 20 2001He's the best horror writer of this generation. But one error on your bibliography: The Cellar was his first book. Beast House came later, although it was his original title for The Cellar. Pegleg

Tue Feb 20 2001Richard Laymon was an incredible talent, a wonderful family man and an all-around great guy. His fiction will terrify you. Do yourself a favor and read his work.

Mon Feb 19 2001He was a brilliant writer who will be sadly missed by his fans. If you haven't read Laymon, you haven't read horror.
