I haven't read a Julie Garwood in 10 - 20 years. I did enjoy some; Lion's Lady, The Bride, and even "The Secret." But, nothing has changed with her historical novels. Still flaky and almost child-like heroines. This was a long and ridicules story. Sorry Julie, I have out grown your historical novels. I still think she is a talented writer, her contemporary novels are not that bad. Sorry . ):

I am a Julie Garwood fan and have read most of her books. I especially like her historical fictions books. THIS BOOK IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!! I have read it many times. When one paperback copy fell apart, I purchased the book again. The love story of Brodick and Gillian is just great. Although the book also has a secondary romance between Ramsey and Brigid, it's really Brodick and Gillian's story. They click on all levels. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great romance, historical romance, Highland romances, Julie Garwood, etc., etc., etc.

Seriously, 200+ thought this book deserved five stars? This was my first Julie Garwood book and will be my last. I enjoy dialogue between characters, but seriously-- 10 pages of dialogue between the heroine and a six-year-old? The characters were superficial and the amount of dialogue was way overkill. If they hadn't told me the book was set in Scotland and they didn't frequently throw in the word "Laird" I would have had no idea. There was no culture, no historical authenticity... I agree with another review that said it read like someone's very first novel, and a bad one. I ventured outside of my normal genre of historical fiction and this is what I got. I'm only giving it two stars because it wasn't HORRIBLE, but definitely cliche and boring.

I read this while I was really, really sick, so my first complaint is that the book (I have the hardcover) was WAY too heavy. LOL But that does lead me to an actual complaint--it was a good story, but it dragged on too long, and got repetitious in spots. I loved the interaction between the h/h, but they had the same argument with nothing resolved too many times--I accept that people do this in real life, but in a book, showing it to the readers once should do the trick. It was also two romances in one, and the two stories weren't well intertwined. Although we're told that the two heroes were friends, and we see the two heroines become friends, there's not much interaction between the pairs. My other complaint is that, oddly though it seems from my complaint that the book was too long, there was a lot left out. For example, we jump from the heroine's escape to someone informing the hero's men that his bride has arrived. It yanked me out of the story for a page or two while I... Read more

This is one of Julie's best. I rarely like a sequel or follow-up novel because the characters' personalities are rarely recaptured...but Julie does it VERY well. Now if she would just stop writing those stupid contemporary novels and get back to what she does BEST. Historical romances are her very best books, esp. those set in Scotland.

Well this book really ruled if you're a WOMAN, gay, or Nacho. HAHAH! Just Kidding. There are way too many male sex scenes and if this author really wants to rake in some cash she should make a book all about hot lesbians in the rain. Well I hope you found my comments usefull author thanks again, my e-mail-address is [email protected] thank you!

I thought the book was fantastic. Ive read all of her books and everyone was good. Yet Ransom was the climax of all her books. A book that you could never put down.
