They rave about quality and it is not. We have a 2 year old lab and she is very active so I tried the Purina One Smartblend. My dog did not take to it at all. She actually vomited up some of the pieces and looked to be in pain! Would not recommend!

Purina Little Bites killed my Yorkie. She had a seizure and was dead when I found her. DO NOT USE THIS DOG FOOD AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW.

In early 2011 I had bought one of the Purina dry foods for Lacey as we didn't have a certain protein for her at the time or something like that so we bought Purina...Lacey starved herself til she was very hungry because she knew it was poor quality & she was not used to that.After a couple days she ate it reluctantly but by that time we had gotten her new dog food(Much higher quality..It wasn't anything from the grocery store..Forgot what brand we bought) so we just put it up for someone to take for free(the Purina dog food)

I had used Purina brands for years with my dogs. I dont reccomend the Dog chow because of excess shedding and to much poop. I used Pro Plan but my Yorkies got hot spots and would scratch themselves like mad.

I would only recommend this food if you want your pet to completely lack nutrition, or if you dont like your dog and would like it to develop cancer.. or any of the other health problems this food causes. If you love your fur kids stay far far away from purina

Horrible food. Full of disgusting ingredients, the kibble is way to big for my dog, and plus, she hates the formula. She is now on Taste Of The Wild High Prarie dog food formula. She is now in perfect health. Try it, it's way better than this. It's natural and grain free.

About a year ago after coming off of a veteranarian prescribed diet, I switched my dogs food to one of the Top of the line natural/holistic brands, (which is currently rated in the top 10 of this list) with horrible results. After weeks of gradually adding it to her diet... then a few more weeks, hoping she would finally acclimate... she was still having diarrhea and had no energy and overall was not doing so well. I decided to try PURINA PRO PLAN SELECTS which also has NO Corn, Wheat, Soy, or Artificial Colors/Flavors/Preservatives - just like the other brand. After a couple of days, she was back to normal. Had more energy, shinier coat and regular bowel movements. She is still eating Purina with no ill effects or disinterest. I will be a lifelong purina customer. HAD USED PURINA PRO PLAN CHICKEN/RICE FOR 20 YRS. NOT FANCY FOOD BUT RAISED MY MASTIFFS WITH MINIMAL GROWTH ISSUES. THEN THEY TOOK IT OFF THE MARKET AND PUT SHREDDED ON. AWFUL FOOD. GREASY BITS. GAVE LOOSE POOP AND GAS. WONT FEED PUPPIES THIS FOOD (OR ANYONE. SO I SWITCHED TO PURINA ONE CHICKEN/RICE AS IT WAS EASIER TO FIND THAN THE PURINA PROPLAN CHICKEN WITHOUT BEING SHREDDED. I feed my dogs Purina One puppy food and when they got older I started to use Shredded Blends and one of my dogs started to have seizures. I changed foods and the seizures stopped.

I have been feeding this to my dogs for ever. I do obedience, rally, agility, and bite with them and they are as healthy and happy as can be. People cant judge food just because of how much they poop when they eat. I worked for a vet and every dog that came in and ate purina dog show was as healthy as could be. Even my vet that i have know for 20 years recommends this food. My dogs absolutly love it.

I'm not bashing Purina based only on what I've been told, or what the ingredients are. I actually fed Purina, once upon a time. I didn't care about nutrition back then. It was all about what was cheaper and had decent results. So, I fed Puppy Chow, then Dog Chow, and finally, Purina One, for several years. He and I do agility and a few other sports. We don't compete, but he needs to be in good shape. I became accustomed to doing sports for around fifteen to twenty minutes, then giving him a 20 minute break, and repeating that cycle several times until we were done. He'd just burn out if we went at it too long, and two hard. But I never connected it to his diet. I began taking him on long walks. Every day, we'd go on an hour-long trip to a nearby pond. I switched my dogs to purina dog chow after I noticed them having upset stomachs way to often on the other brand we were using. With in a couple of weeks we noticed them more healty, their coats we more shinny, more energy and they had normal poop for the first time in months. This is proof enough to me that the brand is doing somthing right even though corn is listed as its first main ingrediant. I am raising an english mastiff on the puppy chow and he is 15 weeks , 45-50 lbs and healthy as can be. All my large breed dogs have lived a happy, healthy life on this brand so there are no complaints here!

Like everything else, you get what you pay for. This food is full of corn and cheap fillers. There isn't much good about it. Sadly Purina sells lots of it because people don't know any better. If your feeding this to your dog you might as well save yourself a few bucks and buy the grocery store brand generic "Food Chunks" for your dog. There isn't much difference.

If I could give this company 0 stars, I would. Purina is one of the biggest, oldest animal feed companies in the world... but that doesn't mean they produce quality food, especially when it comes to dog and cat food. And these days, Purina is owned by Nestle. What business does a chocolate company have making dog food? It doesn't. Nestle is a marketing and profiteering giant, more concerned with the bottom line than pet health. That's why they market Beneful as being so healthy, when in reality it is a cheaply made, horribly low quality product. And their "better" lines, Purina One and Purina Pro Plan, aren't much better. Packed full of meat waste, rendered mystery meat, rancid fat, roadkill, toxins, fillers, and allergens, anything with Alpo/Purina on the label should be avoided.

I have in the past fed my dogs this food and know better now. I stay clear of all super market brands but this one is on the top of my don't buy list.

My puppy has been raised on purina since she was eating solid food. I tried to switch to one of those "super premium" human grade feeds, and it literally made her sick. I transitioned her slowly, and after about a day of eating the so called "better quality feed", she was vomiting bile in the middle of the night, going to the bathroom every hour, and clearing a room with her gas. After two nights of that, I immediately switched her back to her Purina Healthy Morsels (with corn as the first ingredient... GASP) and she quit vomiting, and her stool was firm. It took a few days for the gas to go away. She is active, her coat is shiny, and we will be sticking with purina feed. Purina has been around forever, some of the most successful breeders, hunting dogs, and champions were raised on Purina, and they have the biggest research facility in the world. I just switched my rottweiler and pitbull to Pro Plan Chicken and they love it I finally found something they will eat! Rotti has a weak stomach and haven't had no problems with vomiting! They eat regularly now! Their coats look good! Poop once a day:) Sometimes twice Which is good. They will be on here for awhile at least until they quit eating it...lol

had hootch on regular dog chow and his hair fell out, and he just looked altogether terrible. if you want cheap but still okay dog food get eagle pack or nutro max.

The primary ingredient in this food is corn. Corn is a difficult to digest grain of limited value in dog food, and which is also commonly associated with food allergies. Even if this had been a good quality grain, we would still note that grains are an unnatural foodstuff for canines, and that dog food products should be based on meat rather than grain.

Another yuck!  By products, corn~ no REAL protein source ~ all fillers.  My cat was on this when he developed crystals.

I am a breeder of Cocker Spaniels and I fed Pro Plan Selects Turkey and Barley for many years without any problems what-so-ever. I bought into the Holistic food Hype and Switched to Canidae which lasted roughly 8 months and I was running back to Selects. My dogs had an array of problems on the "Holistic" food. Anything from Coat, Growth, Reproduction, to Poo eating, Nutritional Deficiencies and Skeletar Problems with Pups raised on this food.  What a mistake. If it isn't broke don't fix it. Take it from me as I still have one dog suffering from the affects of being fed Canidae and Canidae refuses to release a Complete Nutritional Analysis to the Public. Makes you wonder what it is exactly they are hiding behind there "Human Grade", all Natural Marketing Ploy. How about a review by someone who is feeding Purina and not just bashing it based on ingredients?I have nine hunting Beagles and one mutt. I normally feed Purina ONE, however in the "off season" - i.e. summer - I prefer to feed something that is lower in protein/fat. We also have a hard time keeping weight on our dogs, they are so active year round. Some foods make them gain, yet it's all fat, no muscle mass :(  We need something economical (it ain't cheap feeding 10 dogs plus a litter of pups - we go through approx 2-3 bags of food per month), yet it's imperative they remain in top shape. Sounds like a paid advertisement, but Purina Dog Chow meets those requirements for us. Coats are awesome! There is very little shedding/dander/dust in the house when we feed Purina ... the difference in coat is noticable. Gave my Cats so much more problems. They were originally on Science Diet then Royal Canine but then it was too much for at since we had to cut back on our budget so we switched Purina Indoor Dry Cat food. Our Black cat had bloody stool and mucus, not to mention the smell was terrible. Our White cat threw up way too often. Both our cats had to get their teeth cleaned because they had tarter build up, plus their breath didn't smell too great. I will never use Purina again, its not worth it in the long run. The vet bills are too much. We are now on Science Diet Dental and Sensitive stomach Dry Formula.

I feed my three boys Purina Vetrinary it works awesome.But i would like to research more dog food for my boys to find the best kind for them.The boy love this kind.i would never feed them anything from walmart or IGA.

This was a "OK" dog food for my Golden, but his coat and skin looked much better when I changed to Iams.  I think a Golden espesially needs a higher grade of food, as past dogs I own (short haired dogs) looked great and lived long on Purina.Purina Dog Chow has too much corn as opposed to meat  in my opinion, but its a good economical food and Purina has a sound reputation.  And I have "done the research" (for those that think research means read whats on the internet) and I don't agree.  There is alot of hype out there that most sane people can see through.

How any half-decent dog owner can buy and feed this food to their dog is beyond me. This is one of the worst foods on the market, and hardly anyone is well-informed enough to make a proper dog-food decision. Inform yourselves about this terrible cancer-in-a-bag "food", along with all other terrible quality commercialized foods. If you do not want to pay a higher price for better quality food like Orijen, etc, you should not even have a dog. These high-quality foods are pricier but in the long run you save money buying them because the bags last longer because the nutrition is high and concentrated, not 80% fillers like commercial brands. Ergo, you end up spending more money in the long run, feeding 5-6 cups a day of a crappy-quality cheap food, than you would feeding 3 cups a day of high-quality, expensive foods. Do the math and do your homework. If you care about your dog's health, make the switch that may save their life.

First off, isn't it kinda scary that after a 14 year study that feeding your dog a lifetime of purina would add two years onto your dogs life...so the dog died at 14? Lets face it people Dogs used to live to be 20 and 25 before companies like Purina (which is owned by Nestle), Hill's (colgate) and Eukanuba (Proctor and Gamble) came out with their dog foods. The fact that 14 years is old for a dog is just sad. Purina make NINE different dog foods (including Alpo, Purina One, Beneful, etc.) All of which are sold in grocery stores. Now common sence tells us that if a company were to make that many different dog foods and have to mass produce to millions of grocery stores and pet stores in the United states alone, that they would not take the time to actually put healthy ingredients in their food. Bad ingredients. Anything with varying colors already tells you somethings wrong. Inconsistent feces and bad breath. Don't buy.

Junk food for dogs. The company does have a great marketing campaign though. The only reason to buy it is for shelters that can't afford better. The best ingredients on the market for a budget is in Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (if you can get past the name, it is a GREAT food) or Nutro.

Animal Digest is spayed on the kibble to make the food appealing to your animal and the kibble contains euthanized cats and dogs. Need I say more?

*Note: I have no connection to Purina in any way* My Pugs have been fed Purina O.N.E. since they've been on solid food. Starting with the puppy formula. They've always been healthy, but they've also always had an open dish menu. When they eventually Pugged-up we switched to the healthy weight management formula and after 8 months the vet says they are both within 2 pounds of ideal weight, even though the open bowl policy is still in effect. Maybe O.N.E. is vastly different from other Purina formulas, but it almost sounds like P.E.T.A. is trying to slam Purina for some reason. Canines are carnivores by nature, and denying them flesh is just wrong. Forcing your dog to eat a vegetable-based diet is cruel. *end political rant* ;)

I fed this food for several years until I started experiencing breeding problems in my dogs. After talking to other4 breeders who were feeding Pro Plan, I found they were having the same problems. I switched to an all natural human grade food and have had zero problems since then.I don't know what they put in their food, but I will never feed any Purina again.

This is even worse than pro plan. Nothing but filler. Spend the extra 5-10 bucks a month and save in the long run on your vet bills.

This stuff is disgusting. I could only eat like half a bowl full, and even then I was nearly choking on the sick taste of this crap. It may be totally healthy and everything but I'd rather eat almost anything else. My dog seems to enjoy it but he's a moron and probably starving as I don't let him eat anything else. Unlike him, though, I would have to be lost in the desert without food for like four weeks before I'd even consider this stuff.

Poison If you want to slowly painfully kill your dog then feed it this crap. Read about what the term by-products means. Read the book: Food Pets Die for: Shocking Facts About Pet Food It is a crime what these clowns put in their food in order to turn a bigger profit. I won't go into details of what is in this food, it is too sickening. If you plan to feed your dog this type of food PLEASE give it to someone who cares enough to provide a decent diet. Canidae and Innova are good choices. Science Diet is a poor choice but not as bad as this crap.

This food should be illegal

My dog is like my child. Would you feed your kid pizza, and McDonalds everyday of it's life because he likes it? Dogs need just as much consideration. This food is great if you just care about your dogs WANTS. If you care about its needs, do your research on ingredients! Don't buy purina!

This food is ABSOLTE junk. If you know anything about ingredients, you would know that this food contains so many fillers, by-products, and crap. Do your dog a favor and spend the extra money to buy him quality food.

I can only go by my two dogs reaction to the food and from I can see they both like the Purina brand dog chows.We get the little bites since one is a Shih tzu and the other is not much bigger. I cannot not say if this is the best for them but they seem to like this dog chow. Purina has many different choices in flavors and size of bags to choose from.

For the number one company (sales wise) for pet foods, this food is a sad commentary. Not as bad as Alpo or Rival is still is close to junk food for dogs. If you are going to by a food by Purina, get Pro Plan

too many by-products and corn---not very good for dogs. Use Nutro.
