Tue Aug 19 2008Let's start with the fact that I don't eat meat. I still love The Prime Rib. Their salmon is excellent and their crab cakes are wonderful....

Thu Apr 03 2008Went to see a friend at 12:30 am... I was in my most possible art-rebel clothes... I was reading After Effects and Color Correction the whole evening prior to my going to Prime Rib... there was no one there except my friend, my other friend that was extremely drunk and two more people. My extremely drunk friend was very annoying... I just grabbed a beer or two and talked to my other friend meanwhile trying to peace my drunk friend... Suddenly the bartender jumped and threw me out together with the drunk friend. Don't go there if a drunk friend calls you... Don't put your art attire, if you don't like to get a smash on your ego. I will never go there again.

Sun Oct 28 2007I'll try to keep this short, since my full rant could easily take more than the 2000 characters I'm given. The atmosphere at The Prime Rib is not high-class; it is tacky, lame, and too old fashioned for a restaurant that's only been open in Philadelphia since 1997. The quality of the food ranged from mediocre to inedible (seriously, the knife couldn't cut the leather, I mean, steak). The service was atrocious (if a server brings you the wrong drink or dish, she should apologize for the error and fix it, not make excuses and try to cover her tracks). Finally, when you call to complain the next day, the person answering the call should not pretend to be a manager, when she is only a server, and her excuse for the bad meal should not be, "we were just coming off Restaurant Week, and the staff was tired. I realize that all restaurants have "off" nights, but the management should be more willing to rectify the situation and not argue so much about it. We eat out very often, and we are... Read more

Sat Jan 20 2007My family and I wanted to go to an excellent steakhouse that could cater to my sisters vegetarian needs. When we got there ofcourse we were ceverely underdressed but that was fine. Seating was prompt, they had my father's favorite appetizer, escargot and it was all excellent. I have been to Ruth Chris and Mortons and many of the finest steakhouses across the country and I would pick this over Ruth Chris anytime. The ambiance in addition to the food, the great service and the way they made special arrangements for my birthday really made me feel welcomed, unlike the aloof atmosphere that I labeled it with. Since it was my birthday, at the end, the manager paid for my whole meal (approximately 60$), it was a very nice treat expecially for my parents since they didn't have to pay. For the five people in my family including my food the total was 300$ with tip and we didn't have anything to drink, but it was completely worth it!

Sun Jun 18 2006In Short Leopard-print carpet, black-lacquer walls, sunken dining room, live jazz, smooth service and jackets-required policy are the calling card of this long-time favorite. Join the business class and posh diners for classic iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing, lamb chops with mint jelly, sirloin au poivre, salmon filet or the restaurant's name sake--a large portion of prime rim. Finish dinner with the signature strawberries and cream over warm shortbread.

Mon Feb 20 2006We went there for dinner with friends. We found the food to be exceptional and the service was excellent. The decor was delightful and we enjoyed the live music. Overall, we had a very enjoyable evening.

Sat Oct 15 2005Prime Rib is great if you want to go to a high-end restaurant but expect servere "snoodiness" in the atmosphere. I had the New York Strip which was again, above average but nothing spectacular while my bf had the Filet Mignon which was somewhat bland. Service was great though- in and out in an hour, tops. Lot of old-timers. To me, not a good enough place for a special occasion night. And btw, the Lobster Bisque tasted like melted Velveeta...good if you like cheese, bad if you actually wanted to taste some lobster in your soup!

Mon Aug 15 2005I had the opportunity to enjoy this restaurant during Philly's Restaurant Week, which was a great deal... The food was excellent - the roasted tomato soup was very good, as was the prime rib - an enormous piece of meat that was very tender and flavorful. I loved the creamed spinach side. They also make a great dirty martini here! And though it was restaurant week and we had a large group, the service was great - attentive, polite, yet unobtrusive. Dessert is the classic steak house offerings, and executed well, though not memorably. The ambience bizarrely brings to mind what I'd imagine powerlunching in the 80's would be like. The crowd is definitely on the very mature side (>40yo). At it's regular prices, I don't know that I would venture here given the customer base and ambience.

Wed Jul 06 2005Sure it is expensive, but it's worth every penny. I visit the bar regularly, and the tuxedoed staff is courteous, knowledgeable and give you their full attention. But for the ultimate in indulgence ask for a banquette in the main dining room (bring a jacket gentlemen). I don't eat steak very much, but I found myself loving the Prime Rib. (Yes it is as BIG as they say). The creamed spinach and mashed put my mother to shame. Please don't tell her. And if you like butter and garlic.... ESCARGOT every time I'm there. Pampered the way it should be. I've worked in foodservice since I was 15, and they do it right. On the rare chance, something is wrong, they take care of it "graciously" unlike so many other places. And one of the few places with live music every night.
