Thu Feb 04 2010Picross DS is my latest puzzle addiction on the Nintendo DS. If you like logic problems and you have a DS, skip the Brain Age nonsense and get Picross! I've been a big fan of grid logic puzzles since I was about 10. Picross, actually a nanogram logic puzzle game, isn't quite as satisfying for me as those were, but it comes pretty close. A nanogram puzzle is essentially a cross between a grid logic puzzle and sudoku. You are challenged to use numerical clues given outside a grid to fill in the puzzle. After using logic to solve it, a rather low-res picture is revealed. Picross DS goes one step further rewards you with a cute, pixelated color animation after solving each. Each game is timed, and the penalty for making a mistake is an ever increasing time penalty. The puzzles start off easy and fast, but get increasingly difficult and time-consuming. The time penalties are harsh to discourage cheating, but enable you to make the odd shot in the dark and improve your skill level over tim... Read more

Thu Jul 23 2009I've been doing these 'paint by number' puzzles for more than 11 years. This game is absolutely wonderful. There are three levels. Each level has several separate 'themes'. The first two levels tell you when you've made a mistake, though with a two minute penalty. The last level does not. Finish all the puzzles in a group you get a bonus round. I've finished all the puzzles and I'm now working to beat my times. This is not easy! The best part of this type of puzzle is it's not possible to remember from one time to the next which boxes to fill in. It always takes logic. There's one puzzle I've only managed to complete once. It took 26 minutes, nearly two months AND included using the hint option before the puzzle begins. RELEASE ANOTHER ONE PLEASE!!!

Mon Jul 13 2009I confess that I'm not much into puzzle games, unless I'm playing a flashy combo-crazy game like "Tetris Attack" or "Meteos." While "Picross DS" is not too flashy, it is a nice diversion from the typical snazzy sound effects-laden games. In case anyone hasn't heard about it, Picross is a simple game in which players fill in a little picture based on the numbers on the border of a square grid. For example, if there is a number 5 on the column or row of a 5x5 square, the player would fill in five squares in that column or row. However, if there is a 22 on the row or column, the player would fill in the first two squares and the last two squares. Anyhow, it's a fun game to play, just for the simple pleasure of drawing pictures in a puzzle. Some of the 15x15 squares may take a few more minutes to finish, but "Picross DS" is a refreshing challenge. And with an internet router, players can download puzzles off of the Internet. The only big complaint about this game is that there ... Read more

Tue Apr 28 2009Picross DSThis game is soooo addicting! I already played all the games and am now playing the classic ones you can download, plus there is a daily skill thing that tracks your progress, so you can keep playing this same game forever, though you'll want more and more. The only thing I hate about this game is that there is not a Picross 2!!! If you like stuff like Sudoku, you'll love this! Some of the bigger puzzles seem hard at first, but don't give up. You'll get used to it, and then you won't be able to put it down, believe me.

Tue Apr 28 2009This game was very addicting. I love puzzle type games and this one was exactly what I was looking for. I was very sad when I finished all of the puzzles, I tried to play it again and it just wasn't the same. Hopefully they will come out with a second edition.
