These reviews are all so similar and mine is as well. I attended PJC in Mobile, AL from 1990-1992. The only thing the "school" did for me or anyone of my class mates was get us student loans. We never recieved the loan money we were given, however. We were called into the office periodically to endorse checks with our names on them over to the "school". The secretary told us to look at it carefully because we would never see that kind of money again! I did recieve an AS degree and have my diploma and I consider myself one of the lucky ones. After the "school" went out of business if you didn't already have a copy of your diploma you were screwed. The job placement was an enormous joke. Some office bimbo would call me periodically and tell me if she saw anything interesting in the help wanted ads. We were told up front that any credits we earned could be transferred. Lies, lies, and more lies. After it was too late we were told that the credits only transferred to anot... Read more

Maybe this will help some of you, we went in 1989 to Oklahoma Junior College, what a waste. We are seeing an attorney this week to have him help get all the old loans cleared up. this excerpt is from the dept of ed http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oig/misc/oig2 5years.pdf • Phillips Colleges, Inc. (PCI), located in Gulfport, Miss., was a privately held corporation wholly owned by one individual. From 1987 to 1989, PCI expanded from 27 schools to 91 schools, becoming the largest chain of proprietary schools in the country, receiving over $200 million annually in student financial assistance funds. The OIG performed at least nine separate audits, inspections or investigations at PCI schools from 1989 to1992, and each uncovered serious integrity issues, such as untimely student refunds and ineligible programs. Due to the pattern of deficiencies, we performed an audit of the PCI corporate headquarters and identified $155 million of student financial assistance funds inappropriat... Read more

I attended Phillips Junior College in 1995 and in 2006 I needed to provide a transcript. I wrote to the Gulfport address like many, and provided my contact information. After what seemed like almost a year, I got a phone call or a letter in the mail can't remember exactly which and was told that my records were not located and that there had been a time when they were stored some where around or in New Orleans and destroyed in hurricane Katrina. I am shit out of luck I guess. ... damn thing is I had completed my english and partial math credits there, as well as got mostly A's and B's which looks good to your new college. All I have is a transcript summary from UOP that I attended some time ago.

In 2002 I sent two separate certified letters requesting transcripts, along with the money order for $7.50. I used the following address: Transcript Processing c/0 CCI - Gulfport P.O. Box 1840 Gulfport, MS 39502-1840 Both envelopes were returned to me unopened. I spoke with the Dpt. of Consumer Affairs today. They said the address was correct and gave me the number of CCI - (228) 867-1905. I called the number and was told they were the correct source for the transcripts, depending upon which campus I attended. I had attended the campus in Fresno, CA. She also told me the address I used was correct, and she couldn't understand why the letters were returned. She said I could use the physical address, which is: 14231 Seaway Road, Suite 5001 Gulfport, MS 39503 I am going to try again and see what happens! Here is a copy of the e-mail I received from the Department of Consumer Affairs: "You do have the correct address. You can try to call Corinthian Colleges, Inc., whic... Read more

I attended Phillips Junior College of Memphis (located in Memphis, Tennessee) from July 18, 1990 through August 21, 1991 attempting to receive an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. After reading your posts on the problems many of you have had, de je vu is inevitable! Brief background on Phillips Junior College. The owner, Gerald C. Phillips (lives in a posh million dollar mansion in Gulfport, Mississippi), purchased various "failing" junior colleges of the early 1990's (i.e. Rutledge Junior College, Draughns Junior College, etc.) and named them Phillips Junior College. One thing that was NOT reported to many was that during these purchases and transfer of ownership, Phillips Junior College also INHERITED the schools purchased "default rate." Note: Default rate applies to the rate of students who dropped out of their educational pursuits, and failed to repay their student loans. This default rate was very high with the schools purchased. As a direct result, Phillips inherite... Read more

I attended Phillips Jr. College, Condie Campus in the early 90s. At the time, they seemed a stable school who had been around for a while. The education itself was a joke. Some old paralegal who just liked to hear himself talk and a couple of lawyers who couldnt hold a better job tried to teach us. They told me I had to take the Legal Secretary classes first and then did not do my basic math until it was almost too late. I graduated in 91 but while I attended the graduation I was not recognized for my 3.9 GPA and never received my diploma. The office was in the midst of closing and kept telling me so and so has it, come back later. Finally they simply were closed. I tried for several months to get my diploma to no avail. I signed paperwork to divert my loans to a later time but was sued by some collection agency within 2 years without even being notified, and they stole my tax money when I was really looking forward to it for things for my child, including food. Meantime, I could only ... Read more

I attended PJC in Augusta Ga around late 1988. They were in the process of losing their accreditation and were still signing students. The public was unaware of the situation. I was planning to major in Biz Admin. Having completed the paperwork, I was ushered into the finance office, which was the next cubicle. They explained that I didn't qualify for much of a pell grant but could get up to 10k on the student loan. I was naive at the time and unaware of my liabilities with the institution that was lending me the money. About one week later I was attending my first class in economics. My first day was taught by an insurance adjuster. Thought it was kinda cool till the next few days the same economics class had several different teachers. Not one of them were teaching on the same subject as the previous one had. I consider myself to be a great judge of character and thought this was kinda suspicious so I thought better to resign and leave the school. About two weeks later the lose of ac... Read more

I attended Phillips College in Atlanta which closed. My transcripts were lost by the US Department of Education and/or the State of Georgia, Non-Public Post Secondary Education Commission. Now the US Department of Education would like for me to repay $17,000.00. I never received transcripts or the "sheep skin". I have attempted to enroll at other institutions but have been told I must enroll as an incoming first semester freshman. They only have a record of my bill. Has anyone ever tried suing the U.S. Department of Education for lost transcripts?

The words "Employment Assistance" after graduation does not hold water in an empty glass. I attended PJC in Marrero, LA and did not help in anyway. I contacted The Dept of Education in reference to my loan and I did not feel that I owed the loan amount because of the school closing and my credits were not transferable even though I was told that they would be. All I received was a piece of paper with my name and "Word Processing Mgmt" and a bill of $4000. It has been 21 yrs and I'm still not happy!

I went to Phillips Junior Colelge in Raleigh, North Carolina (1990-1991. I have received my transcript from the Cultural Resource and Archives Department in the State of North Carolina, however my transcript has the incorrect major listed. I initally enterend the school with a Computer Programming major, but changed my major to Data Entry/Receptionist Training. I had completed all of my courses, but not the required typing test in order for me to receive my diploma (Data Enry). When I went back to take the typing test, the school was closed.

I hope you have better luck than I did getting my transcripts. I sent money to the address listed in Gulfport, MS on 1/7/1998. My payment was returned along with a letter stating that I would need to contact the department of education in the state that I attended in order to get my transcript. After MANY attempts and requests for my ORIGINAL documentation to be sent via mail, I decided to go in person to pick my transcripts up. I will keep you posted on how I made out.

I also attended PJC and was looking for a way to get my transcripts. I found this on another message board, and am going to try it: Julie W. writes on 2007-12-15 15:03:48 I attended Phillips Junior College in Northridge, CA from 10/1993 thru 04/1995. I have been able to obtain certified copies of my transcripts from the following custodian of records: Transcript Processing c/o CCI P.O. I felt I recieved a good education from Phillips Junior College in Campbell Ca. But I also need my transcript and am finding it extremely difficult to get. I am back in College and on my way to becoming a Teacher. It will severly delay my ability to finish my degree if I cannot get the transcripts for my General Ed. I find it very demeaning to those of us that have put out the effort to take these classes (they are not easy) and achieve the success of an AA degree to now find those in the educational field treating us as if we are not being completely truthful about our accomplishments due to the inability of the College that we graduated from not supplying us a way to retain our transcripts. We worked extremely hard and do not want to repeat these transcripts. I began my college experience at a late age and seriously do not have the time to begin all over with my General Ed. So PLEASE if anyone has any resource what so ever to obtain these transcripts please reply to kat97hd@ear... Read more

I attended this college in Marrero, LA (1992); it closed before I could complete my paralegal degree. Unfortunately, because of its status my college credit would not transfer. They, ALMOST, were not accepted by the military when I enlisted! It's unfortunate that there are not more of these colleges around; if it were not for this colleges evening classes, I would not have been able to attend college (I was married with children and a full time job!)

I attended this college in the 1980's.  It was  a new and exciting School, because my major was computer  Science. This was when they used the data cards. I enjoyed this school and i am proud to have graduated from this School. The instructors knew about the latest advances in computer operations. i am sorry that the government felt the need to bankrupt  this college and suck the life out a great educational institution. what would have become the best schooling system in the country became a ghost from the past.I read the lawsuit case file and It reminds me of a old saying, " You can't keep a good school down without pulling herself and the future of this nature down with you. Today's educational institutions are the worst in the world.   Good Job Judge Canellos
