Mon Oct 23 2006I am a huge Peter Gabriel fan. His on stage persona and theatrical performances brought life to the early music of Genesis and left audiences spellbound. He was a true one off during the hey day of the art/prog rock genre. His solo music is also both intelligent and thought provoking. A truly great, and largely under-rated and overlooked talented performer and musician.

Mon Jul 17 2006Peter Gabriel was Genesis and when he left that band they declined immensley. His solo stuff like Games Without Frontiers and Solsbury Hill from the 70's and the more pop dance heavy stuff from the 80's and 90's are fabulous!

Mon Nov 21 2005I appreciate PG as an innovative songwriter and all that but with the exception of Solsbury Hill and couple of other tracks off the first album I just find his stuff a bit worthy and boring.

Mon Oct 10 2005I love him. He has absolutely the best voice and he's an incredible song writer. In Your Eyes is one of my fav songs of all time. I hear it almost everyday and I have yet to become tired of it. I love Peter Gabriel.

Sun Jul 31 2005There are way to many positive things about Pete for me to fit into this little box, so allow me to provide you all with a condensed version of my opinion: Peter Gabriel (past, present, future, alive, deceased, etc) is an absolutely divine musician and individual. I realize this comment may not be entirely helpful to y'all, but his rating on this site is unacceptably low, hehe, so I had to contribute by two cents. In addition, I'd like to seize this opportunity to inform anyone who hasn't listened to Mr. Gabriel's works that, well, you are underprivileged, my friend. It would be in your best interest to pick up any recording of his (Trust me, they're all fantastic. Even his voice is pleasant.) and give him a listen. You won't regret it! :D

Fri May 06 2005Amazingly talented and innovative artist who was many years ahead of the times and who paved the way for other artists to walk on...he should be decorated highly for all his efforts and risks taken during his career which led to an undying success in the music business. Generations to come will discover and enjoy this music for al lifetime.

Wed Mar 31 2004After leaving Genesis, Peter Gabriel returned with his prog rock vision in 1977 with the first of three consecutive self-titled efforts. While these releases may be of primary interest for hard-core fans, the only essential singles from this run are Solsbury Hill, Biko, and Games Without Frontiers. Gabriel's more accessible work (ignoring the soundtracks) begins with Security (1982) (which features I Have The Touch and Shock The Monkey), and continues through his best release So (1986) (which includes Sledgehammer, In Your Eyes, and Big Time), and finally Us (1992) (which is highlighted by Steam and Digging In The Dirt). (Note that I have not listened to anything after Us.) Given Gabriel's tendency for excess in his earlier full-length recordings, most fans would be satisfied with the compilation Shaking The Tree: Sixteen Golden Greats (1990) supplemented with So and Us as the former is the most accessible with few if any weak tracks, and the latter was released subsequent to the c... Mon Mar 15 2004His Last temptation of Christ CD is just beautiful. It incorporates many Middle Eastern instruments and elements into a hauntingly memorable musical account of Christ's life. The oboe solo in With this Love is a perfect example of Gabriel's brilliance. Peter gabriel also brought us Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the greatest Qawwali singer to ever live, in addition to other countless Middle Eastern musicians who prove that the Middle East is a tapestry of vibrant cultures with an amazing musical heritage. Of course I love Gabriel's more mainstream work too, Solsbury Hill, Steam, Sledgehammer and In Your Eyes are brilliant, and the Live 1994 Turin concert version of In Your Eyes is one of the best live versions I have ever heard of a song. This guy is amazing for the work he has done in bringing World Music to the masses. I get bored easily with American Pop and have found some real gems in countries like Mozambique, Mali and Azerbaijan. As this country stews in a quagmire of boy bands ... Read more

Sat Oct 13 2001One word for Mr Gabriel -visionary. The album "SO" is one of the best albums of the 80's. He constantly explores into different genres of music . I have so much respect for him as a person- so aware , so giving. Thank you Peter!

Mon Jul 09 2001Ranking up there with my top three other favorite artists of all time, Gabriel never allows himself to become complacent. He pushes his envelope outward with each project, asking more from himself and of his audience. I've been a fan since he was still with Genesis. He is an artist in the truest sense of the word.

Wed Jun 13 2001Gabriel is one of the finest all around musicians around today. His attention to detail is remarkable. Also he is one of the best video artists as well. Shock the Monkey and Sledgehammer were two of the best videos ever to air on MTV.

Mon May 28 2001Peter Gabriel is incredible, amazing and talented. There hasn't been and I don't believe that there ever will be another artist who even comes close. His music, his lyrics, the SOUL he puts into everything he does, is Unmatched!! All his songs are intense and have deep meaning which shows that he is intelligent and deep with so many different levels. My first son was named after my husband. My second son's name is Gabriel.

Tue May 22 2001If I could give anyone more than just five stars, it would have to be him. (And Jimi Hendrix). I have been a huge fan of Peter Gabriel ever since I first heard 'In Your Eyes', which, in my ever so humble opinion, is not only his best song but one of the best songs of all time. My heart wrenches every time I hear it and I am just left breathless at it's end. There are so many stupid love songs out there now that I just get so touched when I hear something this heartfelt and sincere. Peter Gabriel is a pure genious and I am very much envious of his wife, because in order for someone to write a song like that and sing it with such emotion, that person must love someone very very much. If anyone ever sung that to me, well after laughing at the fact that someone was actually serenanding me, I do believe I would just melt and never let said person go. Not to not acknowledge is other remarkable and groudbreaking material, though. Every song I've heard and every video I've seen from him has ju... Read more

Wed Mar 14 2001i am a post-gabriel era genesis fan, who thought that band was too surreal with him in it. therefore, i avoided his solo work for a long time. while i only have 1 of his cds, i love the songs "in your eyes", "solsbury hill", and "games w/o frontiers". with me, it's really hit and miss with peter gabriel. i love a tune or hate it, no in between.

Sat Feb 24 2001Classic......the complete package of vocalist and songwriter. He ranks up there with Lennon and Morrison.

Wed Feb 07 2001I have known this great artist when I was a child, and I have never changed my mind about him: he'll always be one of the most clever, sensible and charismatic artists. His music and lyrics are timeless. Peter, thanks for existing!

Mon Dec 04 2000I have listened and worshipped since SO, and joyfully discovered in retro all that came before. He sings my heart. My greatest joy in life would be to dance and sing with this amazing man with the world in his eyes.

Tue Oct 26 1999If you like Peter Gabriel and don't hate world music, go buy his Last Temptation of Christ soundtrack. It's this amazing, unique, middle-eastern sounding CD that gets better every time you listen to it. It's very different, but if you're willing to approach it with an open mind it will be worth it. This guy Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan sings on it to, and he's got an amazing voice. And if you're just going to buy one Peter Gabriel CD, get his live double-disc CD.
