This thing was so deliberately awful that if the storm didn't get them, I'd have been willing to travel to Hollywood to personally drown the cast in their swimming pools.

What amazed me is how well lit the ocean was during that terrible blow. Here I thought it might have been pitch dark or something.

Several years ago, my wife complained that I always chose the movies we watched. I told her to have at it, and she chose "Perfect Storm". When the movie ended, we stared at each other in silence for a minute or so. I then cleared my throat. She laughed loudly and said, "Shut up!" I've seen better films on a bathtub.

    A long slow build-up for a big-bang style climax.

This was an excellent movie. I think it would have been good even without the stars cast in it. The story can hold its own. Well acted, well filmed, it was a fairly intense film.

Hated this movie. Not long before it came out I saw a documentry on this very boat and crew and the movie completely changed the personalities of the people involved. Good action but not a good adaption of the events.

How this film made so much money is a mystery to me. Okay, the villain of the piece is....a big storm...that everyone knows about...but our protagonists don't care...because thar be fish in dem dar waves. George Clooney and Mark Walberg are both talented actors but not even their skills can overcome corny dialogue and a story that may make for good reading but makes for excrutiating viewing.

It set itself up to be a truly good movie! Gibson had a girl and looked like he'd finally find hapiness, Michael (a.k.a. "Bugsy") finally found a girl, the one guy's girlfriend (beautiful!) finally found them a good place to live, and I was prepared for some good drama because the big fisherman guy's "son" was an excellent actor, and his parents were going to be divorcing, etc. And I'd heard lousy things about it, and was doubting them, until the film just started to get stupid after far too many colossal waves. I was tired when I saw it, so maybe the fact that I had no patience for a pointless waste of time contributed, but wow this was really sucking. And nothing happened in the end! I'm not asking for a "happily ever after," but I would have appreciated it if something more happened!

A truly disappointing movie. Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney make terrible fools of eachother. Scripts cut paper thin, and the plot isn't too shabby either.

This was a really great movie. What really made it interesting was the fact that it was a true story. I think George Clooney did a very good job in this movie.

Although slow at times, the fact that this is based on a true story makes up for it. Well done, incredible special effects, all star cast.

It boggles the mind that the vast majority of people posting ratings on this website rate this worthless piece of celluloid junk a "4" or better on a scale of 1 to 5. The formulaic script and shockingly pedestrian direction (especially for the Director of Das Boot) are bad enough, but the dialogue is the capper: Clooney's last line in the film (shouted at a wave) is one of the most laughable in film history. I loved the book, but the translation is terrible. Completely missing from the film is the very interesting way in which the storm's development was followed and tracked by meteorologists. Instead, the film creates a false and terribly underdeveloped story about a weatherman who does nothing more than point at a computer screen and say "wow." Also lacking is development about the Navy rescue divers (although I found that story to be somewhat distracting in the book). In sum, this translation of an excellent book ended up being a schizophrenic mess, filled more with insipid an... Read more

Granted, the characters weren't developed at all (what was the deal between Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio's character and George Clooney's) and it seemed like some parts were just thrown in and didn't really figure into the movie (while the Coast Guard stuff was very cool, it had nothing to do with the the fishermen). Despite that, I really liked this film. The action and effects were incredible and kept you spellbound throughout. I definitely recommend this movie, particularly if you are looking for a good action movie which doesn't make you think.

I don't have much to say about "The Perfect Storm" because I watched it for 30 minutes and then fell sound asleep. I just couldn't get into it. The characters were forgettable, and it took too long for the action to kick in. Most of the movie was shot in shadows or in the dark, which probably contributed to my sleepiness. My husband watched the whole thing, though, and he said he enjoyed it. I'll take his word for it- there's no way I'd try watching it again!

Hmmmm, a lot of people did not like this movie. I guess maybe I like cheesy movies or something! I really enjoyed the Perfect Storm, thought the special effects were breathtaking and the acting believable. Following the different events that were taking place kept my interest constantly. It was definitely entertaining, intriguing and terrifying. Of course, being a true story made it all the more interesting and horrific.

This true story was excellent. The actors took you with them on their trip. George Clooney was the best actor they could have picked to play the captain of the ship and crew. This movie could have been just a little better, but other than that, great movie. If you haven't seen it, go see it now.

This movie gave the media a wider range of knowledge on how the world is sometimes. The fishermen, as in the movie are often unrecognized and unrespected, despite their hard work. The movie shows what the reality is.

This movie was so long and boring. Just a bunch of water swishing around. I honestly can't stand boat movies. I wanted something spectacular and miraculous to happen but they all died. It was a major let down.

The Perfect Storm is a big-budget movie with great special effects, but that's about all it has going for it. The acting is mediocre, (see Mark Whalberg's wife), there are cheesy dream scenes, and it stretches the truth.

It was a powerful movie suited for almost any person. I went against my will but was pleasantly surprised. George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg were very convincing and my heart went out to the lives of those fishermen. A drama for any person.

Special effects are really good (except for the shark which I personally didn't appreciate much). Too slow, especially the first half hour. The storyline is very disapointing : nothing's happening on the boat between all these fishers. It could have been much more exciting (like drinking scenes, real fighting ones, tensions or friendships) as noone really knows what happened between their last transmission and the moment they disappeared. What's the real purpose of having all this characters waiting for them, while they don't express any strong feelings : very flat.

Good movie, great effects. At first I felt the dialogue sucked. Everything was too obvious, forcing the character development instead of letting it flow. Once the storm hit, it was all good.

Entertaining yes. Cheesey and hammy up the wazzoo yes but hey it's Hollywood so what do you expect. Is the book better?.... oh yeah. Definitely read the book it goes into much greater detail and gives a lot of technical data about storms, waves and how big they can get and the damage they can do, the process of drowning and accounts of people revived from it etc. Very interesting and much more enthralling than the movie. The movie had good effects and was certainly engaging in a tense action way but the screen was dripping with cheesey scenes and lines. All in all it was worth seeing.

George Clooney, Mark Walhberg, and John Reilley are all terrific. The action sequences are intense, the water scenes get a little long. A good summer movie, although not a typical summer movie.

Mostly a non stop action film with beautiful digital effects. Great water seens that never happened. I wish they had stayed closer to the book as far as character development and rules of logic. Wonderful sound effects and pycho-aucustics

The views of the ocean were amazing, however the story is a complete joke. I read the book, and am familar with the story, and for Hollywood to advertise it as, "Based on a true story," is a joke. The reason I say this is that the actual happenings are based on the disappearance of the ship, of which no one knows what happened aboard, so how could they make a movie out of it?

I just saw it a few hours ago, and I thought it was brilliant. Sure some of the scenes were a little iq less ? I was sitting on the edge of my seat for 2/10's of the movie, and I never sit on the edge of my seat ! I have never seen big waves in the ocean and I felt like I was right there. The only real problem I had was the sound track... they could have had another Titanic soundtrack with the romance...they blew that...now there are no songs I can listen to, to remind me of the movie, ugh . I liked it and I am sure I will see it on video 2-3 more times.

They could have done so much better speculating the fate of the 6 men that lost their lives in the storm that was the subject of this super charged over budget "HOLLYWOOD" flick. The problem is, they focused on cheesy characters and action that was an insult to the average educated human being's intelligence. It is an exciting movie for a 12 year old that likes good action flicks for the sake of action. No more, no less. The story line was so cheesy that at one point, I thought Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney were going to kiss. I may have rated it a two in that case.

Might be Wolfgang's best movie. Clooney and Wahlberg were better than they were in 3 Kings.
