From the behaviour I sometimes observe, both of parents and children, I sometimes think more people should choose this option.

Big deal. This is simply a choice, and it doesn't make a person less than human.

Personal choice again...some people naturally just not meant to be parents out of the lack of parental care, financial struggle, or personal indifference.

It's their own decision not to have children, or because they're simply not able to. They don't need to be patronized by society, who is telling everyone to go out and "be fruitful." For those who choose to not have children, they don't know what they're missing - but that decision is up to them! Sometimes those people are the ones who end up wanting to adopt instead and that's great!

not at all...whay would I care? In my experience most folks who told me they chose not to have children just recognized at some point that they were not good candidates to do so. That may not sound good at first to some people but if you were being true to yourslef, I can respect that.

I could never hate this. It is a very personal choice whether or not to have a child. I would sooner bash someone who kept having kids and couldn't take care of them. I can't believe anyone would hate someone for not wanting children. People who choose to not have children are a BLESSING. At least they have the smarts to think about all the consequences of bringing a person into the world.

I agree with just about everyone else who posted on this topic before me (an unusual situation!). People who don't want to have kids are fine with me. And limited or no reproduction is certainly the model for young couples in the 21st Century in Western society. As Pat Buchanan will tell you in lamenting tones, educated persons in wealthy countries are not reproducing at even replacement levels ... Western Europe, North America (excluding Mexico), Japan ... you name the thriving economy and you'll find the Haves in that region are part of a shrinking population. I reserve my disgust for people who insist on having children irresponsibly. Those who take the responsibility lightly or are unable to pay for their offspring without using my tax money.

I don't think even the old fashioned people hate anybody for not having children. I think people are more apt to hate people that can't afford to feed themselves, but insist on squirting out a kid every couple of years. The better forms of birth control might be a little pricy, but not as pricy as feeding and raising another child.

I'm not sure this even belongs on the list, really. I know there are a lot of old fashioned people out there that still believe that everyone should get married, settle down, and have a family, but with the prominence of co-habitation or domestic partnerships (rather than marriages) it seems to me that most people have moved beyond this view of the world. Besides, with all the people that have kids and shouldn't.....I can respect those that are smart enough to realize that children are not for them. Much kinder to make that decision BEFORE you have kids.

Like GoneAway said, i have more respect for people who don't have children, (by using birth control not abortion) much more than people who don't care enough to realize they won't make good parents. I'd much rather be friends with a couple that don't want to have children, than one that doesn't want the children they have.

No, I don't think so. Speaking for myself; I save my ire for those mental misfits who bring the poor little innocent souls into the world without thought one as to how to raise and care for them. There's no excuse for THAT at all.

There are people who shouldn't have children and do, more so then people who should and choose not to. Which of those is the lesser of two evils? Be smart, if you're ready to shoulder the responsibility, then go for it, otherwise keep those legs closed (for women), or keep Jimmy in the glove (for men).

i do not hate that at all. It is up the each person if they decide to have children or not. I have nothing against someone who says they do not wish to be parents.

No not really. I have a problem with people who choose to not have children by having an abortion and using that as birth control.
