Let me start by saying if I were just rating your oil you would get 5 stars, But I am also rating your containers. I recently treated 30 gallons of outboard fuel with the wrong oil, a very expensive mistake. See your 2 stroke & 4 stroke quart containers are almost identical. I lost $100.00 worth of fuel plus I missed the fishing tournament the next day because I pulled the fuel tank from my boat & cleaned it. You should take in consideration your older users when desighning packaging. Some of dont see so well anymore. I am not sure if I will continue using your oil. Thanks, Lou

Anybody who says Pennzoil is made with wax or is a bad oil is full of shit. When it comes to conventional Group II and Group III "synthetic" it doesnt get any better. This is one of the few oils that not only has Boron in their add pack but a strong shot of it too! Over 500ppm in the syntheics! Your lucky to even get it in anything else but to have more than 20ppm is shocking. Dont forget the price. Very competitive. $23.50 for Platinum is a good price. If your going for longer OCI's Platinum will do the job. People have done over 15k OCI's with a decent TBN still to show how good of an oil this is. If your willing to pay another $3.00 get Ultra. Better add pack and you can even take this oil farther. Has a TBN of over 14!!! Walmarts Super Tech only has a 4.6 for their syn! Thats all you need to know. Go buy it please! This review is for their service center at Redmond Way, Redmond, WA. 1. They lied about their 18 point checks, and never did any check except just the oil change. Carpet vacuum, windshield wash etc is all white lie. They never do that. 2. They lied about the price. They told me the air filter is $32.00, and charged me $39.99, even after clearly asking about the price "before" they installed the filter. 3. They lied about their coupon. I had Microsoft prime card. Before registering for service, they said they apply coupon as well as 20% discount. During billing, told that only one can be applied, and refused the coupon. What a scam!! Would never go to Pennzoil. Since, they just changed, have no feedback on oil quality itself.

I've never had a problem when I used it regularly in my service van.

I can tell you that i've used castrol synthetic, mobile 1, pennzoil platinum, and the new pennzoil ultra. none of the other oils come close to the pennzoil ultra synthetic. i've torn engines apart and seen the proof. after using the pennzoil platinum for 3 oil changes ( 15,000 miles ), i decided to try the ultra just to see if it could be any better. i noticed the change as soon as i started my car. the car ran smoother and has more power. i also noticed an increase in my fuel economy. i have a sports car that i run hard occasionally and i won't go back to anything else after using the ultra synthetic.

Pennzoil /QS products work well for me. Always use a better grade of filter and clean the baseplate and threads before installation.

Forgot to say one more thing- 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 2.5l 398,222 miles.It ran Pennzoil since I bought the car with 92,000 miles on it.Same engine no repairs.Sold it 1991 Ford F-150 4.9l 400,432 miles.It ran Pennzoil since I bought it with 288,900 miles.Same engine no repairs,dead transmission though.Sold it. 1995 Chevrolet S10 4.3l V6 299,871 miles.Ran Pennzoil since new.No motor problems,no transmission problems,no lower ball joint failure like people say these trucks have,and no rear end problems(the engine was lubed by Pennz,the ball joints and chassis points were greased by Pennz,the transmission fluid was Pennz,and the gear fluid was Pennz) My currant car is a 1993 Cadillac Deville 4.9l V8 with 99,000 miles on it.It runs Pennzoil and believe it or not I get better fuel economy with Pennzoil(relugar) Past fuel economy- 19 city 24 highway Fuel economy running Pennzoil- 22.1 city 27.9 highway One way trip to work-272miles All the motors in the cars listed above that ... Pennzoil makes a good syn. the other Pennzoil website Bob is the oil guy, shows tons of UOA analyis tons and they all look pretty good. It is hard to compare the other oils such as Quaker State Valvoline Castrol as the UOA data is mostly Amsoil Mobil 1 and Pennzoil over and overagain. Something is fishy but who am i to say? Getting back to the subject, Pennzoil in the syn. version is a good buy. Keep in mind it is the same oil as Quaker State full syn.So as mentioned before the one on sale is your choice

Pennzoil conventional and synthetic are both excellent oils. I have torn down many engines, and I have only seen one engine that ran Pennzoil that was sludged or waxed up. The thermostat on a 460 ford had been removed, and yes the engine was sludged up. That was no fault of the oil, that was stupidity on the part of the owner. To be perfectly honest, I have never torn down an engine that was sludged up that the oil can be blamed for the condition. Faulty thermostats, bad pcv valves, sorry gasoline, and poor service are the major factors in sludged up engines. Pennzoil in oder engines, both synthetic and conventional, comes out very black and dirty when drained. That means that its detergent package is doing just what it is supposed to do. If you do not like Pennzoil, just run it and send it off for oil analysis. When you get the report back, you will find you have nothing to gripe about.

Their conventional is very good, no experience with their synthetics however I have heard good things.

Gr8 stuff! What is all this crap about waxy build up?!? Waxy build up comes from not changing your oil and filter when you should. Any moron knows that. I have been using PZ since 1995 in my following vehicles... 1986 FORD F150 5.0 V8, 1993 F250 5.8 V8 HD, 2000 Dodge Durango 4.7V8, 2006 Kia Optima 2.4 I4. just to name a few. When I got the durango it had a fair amount of sludge (2 years ago) Owner serviced it frequently, (4.7 is notorius for sludge because they don't breathe good) and when i got it i replaced the PCV valve, and started running PZ. Not only after 3 oil changes at 1500 mile intervals did it clean the engine out, it also stopped the loud chattering valve train. Think about that one I cant argue with other's personal experiences, but I can argue that this stuff will not sludge up your engine if you change your (censored) oil!

i personally believe opinions are like asses everyone has one, and some stink. in reality i feel all the major brands are good, i never read good things about all oils, some say mobil, others hate mpbile, some swear by castrol, some say no good, it basically goes on and on. they are all good oils, despite what people say or think, everyones idea of the best oil is different.

made my car eat oil. switched to royal purple and the problem stopped.

It's funny that all the negative posters totally ignore all the testing lab's analysis! PP is usually rated right up there with Mobil 1. And, at almost $7 cheaper for 5 qts. (Walmart), it's probably the best deal out there!

The ignorance in some of these posts claiming wax, sludge, etc would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic. Some are using the wax B.S. for a scapegoat for either poor maintenance or other factors beyond their comprehension or ability to research. Others are just indulging in stubbornness or self-righteousness which makes them appear even more uneducated. These kind of people will always be found and hinder progress with their ignorance and blinders. As far back as the earth is flat and the earth is the center of the universe all the way to 'I can make candles out of the wax in my engine from Pennzoil' and the like... Sad.

The wax buildup is a good thing - keeps the parts separated better. Thicker is always better, so wax HAS to be the best!

This stuff is terrible and contains alot of wax, I used to be fan in my econemy car until it devoloped a nock due to sludge and then switched to castrol and now it seems better.

haha, you guys make me laugh. I use penzoil platinum in my 99 altima, and valve train on these engines are naturally loud, it has kept it quiet for the last 2 years I have been using it, I used to use castrol gtx and syntec blend, and I still like them just as much as a like this oil. I went about 5500 miles on this last change, and it still looked good.

Pennzoil makes terrible motor oil. It causes wax build up, sludge, startup problems, flat tires, and just all car problems in general. DO NOT USE THIS OIL IN YOUR CARS. Instead, please send your unused Pennzoil to me. If you have 5w20 PP, it is more preferred. A very good brand to use for any type of car. very clean and doesn't create build up. Pennzoil Platinum is however a very good oil! It keeps everything running nice and smooth. A very clean oil!

this response if to the guy below (goodone-1) actually if you knew how an engine works, you would realize that the intake valve stems are constantly in oil, and that a very small amount of oil alway seeps past the seal. pennzoil oil has a detergent in it that gums up the engine, and leads to engine failure, its like sludge in a bottle. dont use it. ask any person (including myself) that rebuilds engines for a living, when we take apart the engine and see all the gum/wax whatever you wanna call it, we ask the customer what oil they used... guess what they say. and thats one more person that i helped realize why there engine prematurely died.

i used to use pennzoil in both of my motorcycles and in my first truck, which was a 1984 ford f150 after that truck decided to take a dive i took it apart and there was enough wax to start selling candles now the only thing i use is castrol. the truck i have now which is a 91 f250 runs great even when hauling long distances

best oil i have used does better than opti2 shit as i am a master mechanic for briggs and stratton in kentucky OUR products are manufacted from pennzoil lab test shows it produces less sludge varnish and waxes than any other engine oil in harsh conditions and great conditions so i highly recommend this engine oil

I used (5w-30) yellow jug --this in my 3.3 liter dodge intrepid for 11 years with yearly oil change along with a large size oil filter , as I towed with this car. Never had a problem and it always worked fine for me . I like the oil

I've had wonderful luck with Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 10W-30 in my '89 Mustang. As someone whose worked in the auto industry, I give it a huge thumbs up for quality and value.

I started to use this oil in my vehicle and it started to smoke! I changed oil brands and it stopped smoking and using oil. I have not had a good impression of this oil.

Nothing wrong with Pennzoil. Quit using it due to higher price is all. Have many trouble free, sludge free, wax free miles from 40+ years of driving and wrenching.

I'm use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 for more than one year and work very well, specialy in cold weather.

I never had a problem with Pennzoil.  It worked wonderfully with my '73 Mustang.   The bad thing is that they got jacked up in price.  I remember when they were $1.XX a quart and now it's about $2.89.  So now I end up using other oils like Exxon or if I'm really desperate... Coastal.

People who don't even know how to change their own oil shouldn't be rating motor oils, Pennzoil, Mobil 1 or otherwise. With regular maintenance and use of the proper weight motor oil for the application and season, I'll pour a QT of Pennzoil into my engine as soon as any comer.

This is some of the most biased crap that I have ever read with no data to back up clams. Wax build up on intake valves? Intake valves are part of the fuel system. Motor oil does not even touch them. First, off I, Mike, am the REAL ToyotaNSaturn. I love Bob's site and find it one of the most respectable spaces on the 'net. To whoever the 1st poster was with MY handle at Bob's site, please identify yourself, or at least, your IP address so I can cross reference you. And by the way, I have TONS of Pennzoil in my stock...Platinum 5w-20, Platinum 10w-30, LongLife 15w-40, SJ Synth 5w-40 (thanks to Johnny!), 5w-20 & 5w-30 dino.... I think it's the simply at the top of the available OTC oils today. Two thumbs-up to Pennzoil!!! Two thumbs-down to whoever used my BITOG login name.

Man oh man. Some of you need to educate yourselves before posting. At the least quit utilizing 25 year old "rumors"... Pennzoil is a fine product and works well under most driving conditions and most motors made today. Add packs and basestocks are average and should last the average driver 4-5K oil change intervals no problem. All in all a great value compared to other overpriced oils you can find on the shelf at your local store. I am speaking of the plain jane yellow bottle stuff. Now the Pennzoil Platinum is really a great value and shows excellent wear numbers even when compared to the "Top Shelf" synthetics that are sometimes double the price.

I rate Pennzoil a 5...........it's a 2 for one product. You get oil, and then, when your engine dies from all the wax buildup, you can make candles. Saves you a heck of a lot in the long run.

Pennzoil is great!!! I will never use anything else in any of my engines. Even the lawn mower uses Pennzoil, and has ran better since I began its diet of Pennzoil.

I'm not particularly a fan of Pennzoil. My dad said his trucks ran like crap on this oil, people complain about buildup, and also some jugs look like they've got elements of something in the oil when you open it new. Now mind you I have heard good things about their Synthetic oil. And an auto dealer I know says the Yellow Bottle Conventional is pretty descent and that they use it in all their cars & motorcyles but that's prob cuz it's cheap ($$$). My mom has had it in her van every prob 1 out of 3 oil changes becuase we take it wherever to have the oil changed becuase its hard to change due to spoiler & running boards, the engine still runs well after 9 years so it must work to a legal standards well, but over and above other oils I somehow doubt. I would rather use it if I had to choose between cheap crap like Nugold or the Walmart Tech 2000 or other low priced oils if I was in a pinch. But as far as I'm concerned Pennzoil will never touch my engine. [Biggest thing is O&F-5kmOr3m;]

None of the comments below warrant any merit, or attention. Pennz is fine oil, and will serve you well. It does NOT cause a sludge build up, or a waxy residue. Only lack of maintenance does that. ive built engines for 25 years and any engine i have seen that has ran on pennzoil has been black stained and waxy usually we took apart these engines because of malfunction. next time you buy if (if you do) notice how dirty of an oil this is. my sugestion is use valvoline all the time and you will never have these problems. pennzoil is even more expensive! its terrible!
